It's amazing how fans always find one scapegoat. Bradley wasn't great, but he still created two of our best three chances of the night. It was also McKennie who failed to track back on the goal but I don't think I've seen a single post critiquing him for it.
The good. If you watched the U20s and U17s you could see we have more players that are technically skilled at those levels than at the senior level. The bad. Like 8 of Mexico’s top 15 players didn’t even play in this tourney. We have a shit senior roster. We have shit depth. We have an entire decade where we didn’t produce even one good fucking player. Like I posted at half we had nothing off the bench outside of Boyd (who never made it in, why?) But there’s light at the end of the tunnel. The U20s are bosses, without stupid ass Tab that was a championship team. This team DID get better as the tourney went on as I predicted. The same people that wanted to riot in the streets after the Jamaica friendly would of been dancing in them if Puli and Jozy finished their 1v1s tonight. I can only think of 2 people on this board that have watched GGG coach 100+ matches and being one of them I can say he IS very smart tactically. (Remember he was a part of the GOAT USMNT ever and rightfully should of scored the greatest goal in our history). His lineup (no zimmerman) and subs (no Boyd) made no sense to me tonight but there is still 3 years till Qatar so I won’t flame him over that tonight. Bottom line. We ran out 4 players (Steffen, Long, Wes, Puli) that I would be happy with at the next WC (Miazga, please preform at the NT level). That’s a long way from a competent NT. Unfortunately it’s going to take time and players like: (Weah, Ledesma, Mendez, Reyna, Pomykal, Cerrilo, Sargent, Gio, Soto/Pepi, Araujo, GLB) until we can compete vs the top international level.
Take heed my friends. Someday we may see this with our senior side. (As a note, Wicky was installing Berhalters system with the U17s where as Tab wouldn’t, part of the reason Tab is done and I’m 75% sure Wicky will take over the U20s.)
Just a few years away from having this on the wing instead of Morris. Considerable difference in technical ability:
Calling someone whose only prior coaching experience was in the mls “tactically smart” is comical. Tata ate his lunch at halftime.
Tata’s halftime speech: “Look at the fucking rosters we are twice as talented as them, go score a goal.”
Many thanks to the USSF for not even bothering to look Tata’s way in the hiring process. You had him in your own backyard.
The mad Puto you see any of the articles that claim Efra was 100% USMNT till those fuck head LAG coaches pushed him to El Tri?
This was what bothered me. Mexico adjusted and then Berhalter just stood there with his thumb up his ass until it was too late. How many times were we going to try to play out of the back and then turn it over within 2 passes before he changes his tactics or formation?
We couldn't get out of our own half in the 2nd half because Bradley can't do anything at the 6. He gets the ball and can't hold it up, can't beat a man on the dribble, and can't find the correct pass. McKennie didn't track back on the goal but about 3 minutes before that Mexico had a prime scoring chance because Bradley did the same thing. I can live with a 20 year old making mistakes but Bradley is making these mistakes at 31.
love Wes and he has a bright future, but last night was a rough one for him. that being said, playing next to Bradley who was a disaster couldn't have helped.
I don't pretend to know anything about soccer, but it seemed like Pulisic was by himself most of the night. Team seems to have some talented players, but the sum is much less then the parts compared to teams like Mexico who always seem to be more than the sum.
I don't disagree with you about the US, but Mexico has more talent that you are giving them credit for.
again, don't know shit about soccer, just seemed like the US had way more speed and talent then Mexico. Felt like they were hanging on for dear life for most of the game and just blatantly dragging guys like Pulisic down when he'd get a step.
"The System" seems to have a problem when facing extreme high pressure. The last few games seemed to play out the same way. We looked great to start, but when the opponent made adjustments and clogged up the midfield, we was fucked.
Bradley is terrible but it's also some of the most tactically idiotic shit to constantly put him on an island like we do
Dear journal. Day 1 without tacos was a success. My friends are struggling but I will marshal on. This is my quest and I will be successful.
Any system that’s calling for Bradley to beat a press is going to have problems. Get in his face and he’s going to make a mistake. Tactics and systems don’t matter if your players can’t do what you’re asking of them. Maybe this is what Pep’s teams would look like with lower table talent.
To be fair from what we saw when Adams was at RB he would of been right next to Bradley as a 2nd #6 so he wouldn’t of been alone at that spot. I think from what we saw out of Bradley & Cannon this tourney hopefully we don’t see that again. Adams-Wes-Pax in the mid with Puli and Weah on the wings. That team is so much better than what we played with Sunday.
I agree with this except that Weah doesn't deserve to start over Arriola and Boyd right now. If he gets consistent playing time in France then he can. Pomykal better get called in for those friendlies, we have barely any other players in the pool with his abilities.
If Pep was running these tactics and winning at Burnley then maybe we could talk. Man City have more invested in fullbacks than 15 Premier League teams do in their entire roster.
He would be perfect to bring off the bench an hour in when other team is tired. Hes not going to run circles around them but hes strong enough to wear on them and hopefully capitalize on a mistake.
I'm also ok taking some lumps and giving the young guys time asap. Get them up to speed by 2022. Throw Sargent, Weah and few youngsters out there and see if the cream rises to the top. I'm alright with a 19-20 year old learning on the job. Wouldn't fans prefer that over Zardes, Bradley, Morris?
It would take a monumental fuck up for America to not qualify for the world cup out of a region as shitty as CONCAF. That would result in the entirety of the USSF being overturned. Oh wait...
Yes on Zardes and Bradley. Probably on Morris too, but he Arriola and Boyd are only 24. Weah and Sargent need to get playing time at their clubs before they're handed starting spots for the national team. They definitely should be called in for all future national team camps and should get occasional starts. But I'm not giving a starting spot to a 20 year old who isn't getting minutes at the club level. Hopefully this is a moot point in a couple months.
No MLS based U23 player should be playing Nations League in October, they need to be at the Olympic qualifying tournament.
