Thoughts on Gooch. 5.6 to 5.7 type prospect. Pretty good film, but don't see a high ceiling. See more of a Championship or bottom-tier EPL type lifer until he comes back to MLS.
That's kind of my thoughts too. With our pool (puddle?) of winger options right now I think he's a solid guy to have going forward. Won't ever be a star, but has pace and can provide good service into the box.
I'm not gonna speak to "deadspin guys" at large, but that particular piece is not lacking for a "grasp" on a damn thing, and yes it is pretentious as fuck.
He apparently played really well too. Pretty crazy that he is where he is right now. Dude never even played for an academy growing up. He played high school soccer in Texas, was playing in a tournament in Portugal, got noticed and picked up by Varzim, then ended up at Benefica a couple years later. Has to be one of the unlikeliest high level US prospects ever.
Yep, lived in Frisco, TX. Same city as the top academy in this country in FC Dallas. Texans and Solar are other big youth clubs in the Dallas area that's produced quite a few players and they even missed out on him.
Big weekend for Americans Abroad. - Keaton Parks getting Benfica debut. - De la Torre playing for Fulman for 30’ - Gonzales great game for Monterrey - McKennie had one of his best games of the year - CCV & Miazga looked strong
We have so much young talent coming up in the midfield we may actually need to entertain the idea of moving Pulisic back to the wing just to get them all on the field.
I wouldn't move my best player out to the wing just to maybe get my best XI out there. I'm more worried about having my best players in the right spots and Pulisic can do the most damage through the middle.
I think part of the reason for that is because when he's on the wing we haven't had anyone in the middle who can create space and get him the ball. I mostly agree with putting your best players at their most effective position at the expense of other positions. I just think our midfield prospects are so far ahead of our winger prospects it will be worth considering.
And let's reserve some of that CM hype train for Durkin and Sands. I think Durkin has the potential to be the best traditional #6 to come through our system.
lynden gooch comp imo cameron carter-vickers was the one who got kicked in the head by the portuguese keeper
thought he struggled to get himself into the game, personally. pretty much everyone for schalke lost their minds those first 30 min though
Yeah, I'm not saying he played well tbh. Just that when a guy gets subbed off that early he's usually playing really, really bad- where in this situation it was more of a "Team is getting hammered, scrap the previous gameplan, get goretzka in, McKennie has a yellow so he makes the most sense to take off" situation.
Just had a recently turned 21 y/o RB start against Atletico today. And honestly, 2 years ago I thought Shaq Moore would maybe have a good MLS career since he isn't a technical player. But he's obviously busted his ass and chose the right club to get to this point.
