Yedlin is better then him. But I agree Lichaj should be getting called in for some games, though he's 29 already. It's LB where we can't find any decent players.
Holy fuck Gonzalez is actually filing his Mexico transfer. What a fucking disaster this organization is.
i have no idea the rules on this shit so excuse the dumb question. Is there a way we could have prevented this?
Courted him better I suppose. We can't block his move if he wants to leave. Honestly the best way would have been to not fucking lose to Trinidad and Tobago and miss the World Cup.
Someone will know better than me but I believe once he is rostered in a senior competition he will be cap tied. So he'd need to be called up for that January 31 friendly and make the roster. He might need to play, I'm not 100% sure.
Yeah, I'm saying until that happens we have every chance to make a desperation move. Seems like his mind is made up though, and sounds like his parents always wanted him to play for Mexico. Pathetic.
Klinsmann (and all of US Soccer, really) was/is a comprehensive failure at identifying and developing Latino talent.
Yeah that wasn't my argument, just that once they were identified he did a good job of winning the battle. Development lol
Seems like he simply just wants to play for Mexico now that he's good enough to make their senior team and is successfully disguising this by pointing fingers at the USSF. I have a hard time believing a player makes a decision for his entire career based off of not getting a phone call to explain why he wasn't called up to a meaningless friendly.
He was able to convince Germans who would never play for Germany, and an Icelandic dude (because lol when will they ever make the World Cup). None of that is impressive.
it's so annoying to watch the USMNT twitter feed go on about playing the young guys and the future while this Gonzalez shit is happening simultaneously.
If a player has been developed by a nation but chooses to play for another country’s senior team, the first country has the right to block it thru FIFA. I’m not sure how many times they can do it ( once or multiple times ) but it is an option. There’s a kid up here on the Impact Ballou Table that was raised and developed here, played with Canada in national youth squads, but has decided to hold off being capped here until Ivory Coast takes a look at him. He’s on their radar but I’ve heard CSA will block him from using his one time switch.
Friendlies don't count. We couldn't actually cap tie him until like late in the year because that's how far off our next game is that actually means anything. Fuck Bruce in his stupid fucking face
the people managing the twitter feed aren't involved in the recruitment of dual nationals. I'm so down on the program though. I can't get excited about young players anymore. It's like 8 years from being relevant because the Qatar WC is going to be such a joke.
There is no joy in soccer to be found on this continent for me for many years it seems. It is depressing
My issue with Gonzalez is that Mexico ignored him his whole career until he broke through at Monterrey. He's been playing for USYNT's since the U15 level. Tab called him up for U20 WCQ, playing him up a cycle. I think it just boils down to he flat out wants to play for Mexico more, which is how these kids are raised. At least it's at perhaps our deepest position in the pool, but still is a big loss.
Not USMNT teams news but general soccer in the US news. Soccer being tied with basketball for that 18-35 bracket surprised me. https://www.socceramerica.com/publi...ll-soccer-closes-in-on-big-three-as-most.html
Who push their kids to US youth national teams. Gonna be a long road... Now we just gassed Zambrano and brought in our chicks head coach.
His parents both definitely preferred that he play for Mexico. I kind of got the sense that he would play for either, but Mexico is the only one offering a path to the WC right now. Similar for most Mexican-Americans. They will play for both and if you call first and offer playing time in legit competitions then you stand a good chance. Most are not going to hold out for years waiting to see if the other one calls them up. They are going to strike while the iron is hot, so to speak.
Friendlies don’t matter for cap tying, it has to be an official FIFA recognized match, World Cup, Gold Cup, World Cup Qualifier, etc., but after he switches and plays at the senior level he can’t switch back, so once he plays for Mexico he’s theirs.
If you play in an official competitive youth match for a country and want to switch to another at the senior level, once you file for the one-time switch you are locked into the new country regardless of if you play a game at the senior level from that point onward.
I kind of like having him in Germany because it means I never really have to root against him (and I've become a little bit of a Dortmund fan too) but this would be huge. I just hope it's not United.
Kyle Martino's Progress Plan for his USSF President campaign. Some good stuff in here. I'm not close enough to the process to know all the details, but I like a lot of what I'm hearing from him. https://static1.squarespace.com/sta...4884889/EveryonesGameProgressPlanComplete.pdf
God bless the patriot who paid for this signage outside the US soccer coaches conference ohhaithur this is what we should be spending our $$$ on
