Would love to see how she would go about fixing things that already aren't being done. Besides the generic focus on the youth programs shit.

I mean...that is only one player. And more of a name than a contributor.

But that said I don't know how you measure youth program success after only a couple years unless you really don't see progress there. Abby herself would be a really good youth program ambassador though.

improvements in the youth system wont be seen for 10-15+ years, its not like stringing together a few recruiting classes.

I don't see the problem with what he said. Obviously you'd feel better about winning the world cup with more American raised players than European raised players.

let's not act like this is some desperate attempt at legitimacy by the US. this is a very common thing in international soccer. Germany does it all the time. Spain did it with Costa. I can't even keep track of where half the players in Eastern Europe were actually born.

I think Donovan is trying to convey that a national team should reflect a country's soccer program. The more foreign based players you have the less the team represents American soccer, which is ultimately what international soccer is about. It doesn't help that Donovan is still salty about being left off the WC roster for a german teen.

The other country examples aren't great since Germany and Soccer rely on foreign talent very minimally and the Eastern European phenomenon is due in large part to a war. They also have a way stronger cultural tie to their national team than a German teen growing up in Germany without his American dad.

For the record, I don't think your foreign talent pool is in anyway a bad thing or unfair, as you guys have lost some good American raised players who decided to not play for the US.

I think there's more satisfaction in saying we developed all our players, but I wouldn't have been cheering any harder had Besler scored instead of Brooks against Ghana because Besler was born and raised here.

We've also lost Rossi and Subotic, who spent many years here. And we lost Diego Fagundez because his parents never bothered to become naturalized. We'll gain some and lose some.

Also hoping Nagbe sticks around, sounds like he looked good in his first camp and he really turned it on the backend of the MLS season when he was moved to midfield.

I'm the weirdo that got into soccer thanks the MLS, but its fun as hell rooting for a guy on the team I cheer for playing for the country I care for. Going to be rocking his jersey next world cup hopefully.

    Pretty pleased with that roster.

Acosta and Polster aren't really defenders, better at CM but there's much more experience ahead of them there.
