I know Men in Blazers has lost its allure around here, but this week Rog called Sargent “Soccer Gritty” and I laughed my ass off
That was so so bad Zack He has been bad tonight. Stupid to try to play this way when they’ve been pouncing on mistakes all night as we try to play out of the back but the refusal to change tactics when Zack has been passing like this is just indefensible
It's hard for me to cheer on my talented top 4 club in the premier league and then lower myself to watch this.
My biggest frustration is that that Berhalter thinks he’s going to somehow turn Steffen into Neuer or MATS. That shit doesn’t happen at the professional level. We absolutely have to stop pretending like we’re going to do that shit unless we’re emphasizing that sort of GK play at the youth level. I’m completely fine with most of what he’s trying to do, and it’s certainly a learning curve; but we have to stop trying to play from the goalie unless we’ve already got someone that can perform those duties. There are several elite club teams that don’t have a goalie that can comfortably distribute. And those coaches either recognize it, or don’t emphasize it. Pretending we’ve got a sweeper keeper is absurd.
It bugs the absolute shit out of me that Berhalter will pull guys out of the starting lineup if they play poorly in a previous match, but his Columbus guys are completely exempt from that treatment.
What was the famous Charlie Weis quote? Something about having a schematic advantage? Berhalter thinks that about himself. With similar results.
I don't know what coaching seminars you guys have been to, but "setting your players up for failure" is a big part of the learning process
I feel like we have better talent but the collective of that talent isnt there. The pieces are just that, pieces. Not a team just pieces.
