Now we need match winners to emerge and a manager that can develop effective final 1/3 tactics when controlling possession.
Fully preparing for GGG extension but is Marsch not the thought? Leeds wont last forever. Bring our most accomplished foreign manager home for the most important WC in our history.
I cannot imagine how frustrated everyone would be watching Marsch ball with the USMNT. Would be comical trying to watch the backline defend in the system. Mckennie might die of exhaustion.
I don’t follow MLS as close as some of you, but how do we think Cherundolo might translate to the national team?
Hopefully we can get someone with more than a couple years experience. He might be an option next cycle.
My completely uninformed thought is that we have spent a decade trying to get all our best talent to Europe to develop in that way - it’s worked - and then put coaches in charge who have developed their entire careers in American soccer systems and thats probably not the best. Our player pool eco system has evolved rapidly. Our coaching eco system is still 20 years old. Beyond that, I think a lot of our best talents could use a manager who isn’t ingrained in the psyche of American soccer which is mostly defined by endless “progress” and “next time”. This generation is mature enough, experienced enough at the highest level, to work with a manager that doesn’t pray at the altar of American Soccer Positivity.
FYI Memphis isn’t scoring in the Champions League because his club, FC #Barcelona , were eliminated in the group stage for the second year in a row.
Yeah the guy who scored the goal to get us to the group stage and who's been our best player for 8 years "ain't it"
Musah is probably our most unique player in the scheme of the rest of the roster and if he develops any sort of final product he could be our best. But he's not our best right now.
Musah was absolutely gassed at the end of the Iran game and it looked like it carried over to Saturday imo.
really need to develop some midfield depth. the only options were playing BA in midfield which I don't think is his best position or Acosta. I do expect Gio to grow into more of a central player as he matures.
I believe, and I may be wrong, that he's saying Pulisic is not the one to buildthe team AROUND. He's obviously a key player, but I think the strength of this team is in the midfield with Adams, Mckinnie, Musah and even Aaronson (i think hes better as more of an attacking mid than as a RW). Build and game plan around that. Get them to feed balls into Pulisic and Gio and our 9
do we really think the team was built around CP? feels like we've played exactly the same no matter who was in there.
implying gregggg is doing any tactical building around certain player talents is hilariously generous
Impossible to tell who or what this team is built around. Gregg's personnel decisions made that impossible
I'm not a tactical expert, but with the ball it's always some variation of a 4-3-3 with Adams in front of the CBs, the fullbacks pushing upfield, a striker that drops to link up play and wingers that cut inside on the left (almost always a right footed player) and try to get behind or stay wide on the right (with the RB more likely to cut inside). they changed it up a bit in the world cup with the CM players (Musah & McKennie) really getting wider than I've seen in the past, and played a lot more crosses than I was used to seeing. not sure how much of that was out of necessity with the way teams were setting up against us, but I don't think any of it was really done for the benefit of Pulisic specifically.
