The only positions unchanged from Saturday are Jones, Jozy and Cameron and Jozy is only 25.

Also under 25 is cherry picking to make it sound worse. Jozy and Brek are 25. Williams is 26

Lol CR just played a ball to a guy about ten yards from Jozy. Jozy started jogging his lazy ass over there, meanwhile Jermaine Jones sprints by to actually apply some pressure

Excited for the inevitable biting Grantland piece that will come out today. Jurgen needs to catch some heat. His quotes yesterday were encouraging overall but still sounds like empty talk until we fix this shit

Every time they'd show him last night I'd get a little pang of anger and frustration. Started thinking about how we used to make gifs of his sideline reactions. Man how things changed quickly

No. He did start for US every match at U23 Olympics and was pretty good in 3 of the games, but was poor against Honduras.

Definitely a huge prospect. I could see him being in the mix come the 2018 WC, but not right now. He turns 18 on January 1st.

Miazga is closer to being ready. I wouldn't be surprised to see him at January Camp. Most pundits are saying he is the best American born defender to come out of MLS ever and he has been a Top 5ish CB in the league as a 20 year old this year.

I suppose so. I just don't think that the real USMNT fans give much of a shit (i.e., aren't very impressed) by beating St. Vincent and Trinidad. I doubt those two wins change a whole lot in terms of the fan restlessness and the general narrative.

There are a lot of casual USMNT fans who see Landon say he should be under fire and maybe lose his job if we lose so they think so right now but winning those matches will make them feel at ease.

The people here and fans who follow closer all know that if we didn't qualify for the hex it would be an incredibly dark day for USSF so it wouldn't change anything and at this point qualifying for the World Cup is an expectation

I understand all the bitching about Jurgen and what he hasn't done or delivered in the past 4 years, I think we all know where his weaknesses lie. The problem is there aren't many offering solutions. The team is going to struggle to consistently find the amount of success everyone craves until they find/develop consistent players. This current crop of guys just isn't going to get it done, period. I personally don't think it really matters all that much what formation we run or what tactics we deploy. Granted those factors will win us games against worse teams, but we just don't currently have the talent to sustain success against top competition.

I personally would like to see JK at least play some guys that show desire to win. I felt like against Mexico the team just didn't want it enough. Sit Jozy's lazy ass, sit Dempsey. The next couple years need to be spent finding solutions rather than trotting out the same tired group looking for a result. I'd really love to see in the future:

    ----------Green----Morris--------
    -Bedoya----------------------Fab/Yedlin--
    ---------Jones/Trapp--Bradley-----------
    Garza----Besler---Brooks----Cameron

Let the midfield shape free flow with the game, if bedoya drifts inside, jones slides to cover and bradley slides, and vice versa. I could be way off, but I think that formation suits us better than what we're currently playing moving forward.

I wish we had time to bomb some more games and get his ass fired before the qualifiers. I don't have much doubt that we'll make it through the Hex again under Jurgen but I'm not thrilled with the prospect of this type of squad being in Russia. The players say they support him but from our perspective, it seems like he's totally lost some of them.

Although we're a long way aways, with the way you're playing, would it be that surpising if you guys finished 4th and had to play the AFC team?

Getting to the heart of the problem of Jurgen Klinsmann's USMNT Tenure

Getting to the heart of the problem of Jurgen Klinsmann's USMNT tenure

Head coach Jurgen Klinsmann of the United States looks on against Costa Rica during the second half at Red Bull Arena on October 13, 2015 in Harrison, New Jersey. Costa Rica defeated the the United States 1-0. (Photo by Adam Hunger/Getty Images)
HARRISON, N.J. – It's raining on Jurgen Klinsmann's perpetually sunny disposition.

In soccer, sometimes the sun shines and sometimes it rains. Or that was the metaphor the United States men's national team head coach used on Tuesday anyway, after the Americans lost their fifth game in six contests in a fetid 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica here.

"You'd rather have the opposite record, but I can't change it," a philosophical Klinsmann said in his postgame press conference. "It's part of life; it's part of your job. There are not only sunshine days. We had a lot of sunshine 2012, 2013, 2014. Now it's raining a little bit. And you've got to go through that. Maybe you've got to go through a little bit of mud as well."

[FC Yahoo: Downward spiral for USMNT continues with loss to Costa Rica]

That's perhaps overstating the success of 2012, 2013 and 2014 – considering that each of those years had sizable rough patches as well – but there's no doubt that the atmosphere has changed around the team in 2015. The Yanks have generally looked dreary and insipid since the 2014 World Cup, and even at that tournament they were quite badly outplayed in three of their four games, although they did survive one of the tournament's toughest groups.

Context is important on this particularly bad stretch. Of the five losses, the first – in the Gold Cup semifinals against Jamaica – came on two fluky goals. The second, in the third-place game against Panama, came on penalties. Another, against Mexico last Saturday in a playoff for a spot at the 2017 Confederations Cup, occurred in extra time on a world-class strike. The other two losses came in friendlies.

[FC Yahoo: Why 2015 must go down as a failure for U.S. men's national team]

But even if all of those defeats and dispiriting setbacks came couched in qualifiers, they nevertheless present a cohesive picture when taken collectively.

Which brings us to a larger question. And at a certain point in every manager's tenure, that question is the same: Is it a crisis? Or are things not working anymore? Are the protocols and systems and mechanisms in place fundamentally sound? Or is a rickety structure finally showing its fatal flaws?

That's the enquiry now as Klinsmann is well into his fourth year on the job and finds himself on the cusp of his second World Cup qualifying cycle. Because the crisis, or perhaps the inevitable end of Klinsmann's effectiveness as U.S. head coach, isn't just one of results. It's one of form. One of style, more specifically.

Just on Monday, Klinsmann said that it's still his ambition for the USA to play the superior soccer – the proactive and possession-oriented and pacey sort – he once promised. But, predictably, it all looked quite direct and rudimentary against Costa Rica. It was old-school U.S., playing over the top and preying on set pieces. There was very little finesse. It was all just brawn and toil and a lot of hopeful hustling.

"I see that we struggle to keep the ball, that we struggle to have a combination, a rhythm, movement off the ball," Klinsmann conceded. "I also know what they went through this week, so I'm not surprised that their game today went this way."

For the first time during his years in U.S. Soccer's employ, Klinsmann is under real pressure. But the longtime California resident was as zen as ever about the whole thing.

Alejandro Bedoya, whom he had played badly out of position as a holding midfielder, for the 4-1 battering at the hands of Brazil – even though the U.S. was merely behind 1-0 when Klinsmann yanked Bedoya after 36 minutes.

After the Mexico loss, Klinsmann talked a lot about Fabian Johnson, whom he sent home following the game, even if he never went as far as declaring the defeat was his fault. He said he was merely annoyed that Johnson had asked for a substitution in extra time just because the right back worried about getting injured. Klinsmann would have liked to use that final sub to bring in goalkeeper Nick Rimando for a potential penalty shootout. But bringing Johnson up then, right after the game, and subjecting him to heavy criticism was a distraction all the same.

On Thursday, Klinsmann essentially blamed the Costa Rica loss on the Mexico loss. "The Saturday night clash with Mexico was still kind of heavy in the air," he said. "[The players'] heads were full. We were not able to shake this off within two days. It was just too much of a disappointment but also too much on their shoulders coming off that 120 minutes there with Mexico."

Strangely, defender Brad Evans told a different tale. "Spirits are high," he said after the game. "Before the game everybody was ready to go. Everybody was fired up. In my opinion it has nothing to do with the result a couple of days ago, it was all about tonight."

Still, Klinsmann's players seem to be behind him, publicly at least – and allegedly agreed with the decision to discipline Johnson. "As players, we have to take responsibility, it's not him," said defender Geoff Cameron. ‘It's the players that are on the pitch who have got to perform. As a team we're not producing and playing as well as we should, as well as we could."

"We support him 100 percent," goalkeeper Tim Howard said of Klinsmann. "He stood by us; we stand by him. We'll get it right. It's part of playing at this level – you've got to go through tough times."

So, for now, Klinsmann, who seems to enjoy unshakable job security, will just talk about soccer and the weather some more.

"Sooner or later the clouds will pass by and we're going to find some sun again," he said. "I'm here to take the team also through tough times. I'm not only here to take the sunshine."

I am somewhat ignorant to the intricacies and nuances of being a manager, but Jurgen seems to be between a rock and hard place.

Speaking purely about his vision and where the USA/MLS are and need to be, he doesn't seem all that off base. There are huge expectations for the USMNT in part due to Jurgen being a pretty big name, but how much is the USSF doing to give him the resources and opportunity to succeed? I understand that just b/c they operate in the same country with many of the same players, the best interests of the USMNT and MLS are often mutually exclusive. Still there appears to be this belief that the MLS will eventually become a upper tier league because of American and the league will operate how they see fit regardless of how every other significant league/soccer federation operates. On top of that, the talent pool isnt all that deep and the expectations placed upon the USMNT are not in line with quality of the roster.

Question - outside of dark horses/late bloomers, how much better could this roster get by 2018? What is the likelihood that the 2014 team is better than the 2018 team (Howard & Dempsey might not be around, Bradley near 30). Is it reasonable to expect guys like Hyndman, Rubio, Trapp, EPB to be contributors by then?

We were excited because he was a big name. And he appeared to have a clear direction and a plan to develop soccer in this country. Honestly, Im not completely pissed with what is happening on the field right now because to me, the bigger issue is creating a culture where this country begins producing top players each year. Right now we can have a little fun and get out of a knockout round or whatever, but we arent winning a world cup with our talent pool (and who knows, maybe we never will). Even the most techincally advanced coach in the world, whoever that is in your opinion, wouldnt win a world cup with our talent pool.

Sure, I want results and Im impatient like everyone else, but I want to see the foundation built. To me, I have turned against Klinnsman in the last year for his selections for youth coaches, specifically Tab Ramos. I think we are getting some better talent from our youth ranks, but I havent seen the complete youth overhaul that he alluded to after the South Africa World Cup on the Air with ESPN.

well his stint with Bayern was a disaster so that makes sense.

getting Germany to the semis with a very young team in 2006 was a huge success though.

he was also given credit for the remaking of the Germany national team model. that was what had us most excited. he was never considered a tactical genius but we thought he could do for our complete program what he did for Germany.

I'm gonna throw my hat into the ring for its time for a change. I'm not sure who is available as true options but there has to be a better direction.

I'm not the biggest USMNT guy so I may be wrong and I'd love to understand why but at this time I'm fully on fire Jurgen.
