I am not a religious man, but as I think on this I can’t help but imagine going to the next world and seeing the souls of these children, from Uvalde to Sandy Hook to Parkland and Columbine and a hundred others besides, to their faces searchingly looking into mine and the others of our generation, asking “how did you fix this? What did you do to keep this from happening to anyone else?”

The fact that I would almost certainly have to look at them and say “not a goddamn thing” fills me with anguish. Our priorities are just so utterly lost.

As someone who was born in South Carolina and hunted most of his life I just don’t understand the NRA and a large percentage of the population of gun owners. The complete failure to even consider any changes to regulations is just plain stupid. It’s unbelievable that Sandy Hook did not result in any measurable changes to gun laws.

I would be perfectly fine with limiting private ownership of guns to single shot bolt action rifles and over/under shotguns. Follow the Australian model and ensure guns are locked up and safe when not in use. Having a mass scale gun buyback so that people don’t feel like “the government too my money”.
