somehow theres no thread yet? really cool norse myth based survival game. very polished for early access. very rewarding sense of progression.
Love it. Killed Elder earlier today. Taking my time and really enjoying exploration and base building. You’re right in that profession is so rewarding because it can be pretty brutal.
Just watched a beginning play through. I'm intrigued. Has anyone played as a party, how does it compare to solo?
i havent even started my own world yet and have played a lot. this kind of co-op game is what i live for. really have no interest in solo.
Like how does it work? Does one player generate a world and then invite players in and then work together?
yeah. and you make a character that carries its progression between worlds. so even when you're on someone else's server you can use your same guy and keep leveling/progressing him.
But the story/bosses are linked to the world generating player? Could you play in that world even if the the generator wasn't online? We've been playing For The King for a bit which has been pretty fun.
no, the world generator would have to be online. but you can always make your own to progress when friends aren't online. my game constantly crashes when i do try to make my own world but luckily i have a lot of friends playing so i never really have to worry about not being able to play somewhere.
Gotcha, that's cool. I imagine there's a ton to do so it doesn't feel super old if you're rehashing the story/quests in another world that you've already done?
I’ve only played solo FWIW. It’s fun that way too and very challenging as well. Corpse running is always a toss up. Plus finding stuff and figuring stuff out is a pretty great feeling too. I do believe the mobs get harder as more players enter a world which is pretty cool too. Hard to imagine this game ~1GB after you’ve played it for 40+ hours and you still feel like you’re not half way through.
Game slaps. Played with 4 friends last night for about 3/4 hours and honestly didn't really accomplish a lot but had a blast haha.
i'm really awful at boating. i'm much better at harpooning shit. combat got so much better after i realize its basically dark souls
Yep early on I was just thrashing and hitting with some success but having to retreat and wait forever health Stan. It’s much more parry/counter attack based. The game also forces you to be cognizant of your stamina at all times.
I've been playing it a pretty good bit - have only defeated the first boss but have about 30 hours in. Mostly just collecting shit and upgrading all my gear and crafting a small house. Just started really working on getting bronze this weekend. Going to be running back and forth a lot to get tin and copper.
It is definitely worth making a cart and finding some copper veins near each other and mining them all the same time. You can build a workshop to repair your pick whenever it breaks or farm the first boss and make more picks. I went back and forth the first few times and did a cart after and was mad at myself for wasting time. You can always flatten the ground around you if you’re having trouble navigating the Black Forest. You’ll probably end up using a cart later regardless so it might be good to familiarize yourself in the meantime. I don’t think that’s a spoiler and I know a lot of people are playing spoiler free. since we have so many people playing on here, a TMB server would be a lot of fun where everyone can just play at their own pace.
Cart and making a path on your way there is the way to go. Makes the first trip a tiny bit longer but definitely worth it. Also wherever you're mining, put torches all around it. Keeps enemies out for the most part.
I've dug out everywhere around my house. My house is basically an island. Hopefully trolls don't swim
Just built a cart yesterday - I have a black forest to my souther but have to cross a stream, so can't take the cart there - and the one to my north is very bad terrain so I haven't tried that. The one time I took the cart out to get wood I flipped it a couple of times and had to walk slow as could be. Thinking of just moving my base near the black forest as its also on the water. I'm still just a few feet away from where you start in the game.
you have a few options: 1. if the stream is shallow enough for you to walk across you can take the cart normally 2. if it isnt, carts can float so you can get behind it and push 3. move your base to the black forest (my preferred method) 4. make a temporary base there 5. bridge over the stream
I love this game, spent well over an hour last night building a path to the black forest to my north. Clearing trees and rocks in the way of the path, then made a 2nd base right outside of that black forest to refresh my tools and sleep during the night. Farmed the shit out of some copper, tin is a little harder to come by - need to explore some more. There must be a spawn point not far from my base though because I was getting attacked quite often. Maybe I'll go search for that and destroy it tonight.
FYI, tin spawns in small amounts near the coast/water. It’s mostly 1x1s that I’ve seen so don’t spend an hour looking for a big node.
Is there any way to play a Steam game on a work computer? Or would I have to bring a laptop from home and just hook it up to one of my monitors? I got 2 huge projects done at work a couple weeks early and have time to spare.
Should be able to install Steam on any computer and play - can only have one steam game playing total between all computers though. I have Steam on 3 computers, and jump between games on each. I've noticed some saves go between the computers, some don't. Not sure about Valheim.
Can't install on a work computer. If I put it on an external harddrive would I be able to play it? Not sure if that would work. Found this youtube. Worth a shot:
Mining silver currently. The stone golems took a hot second to get used to. the thing I have most trouble keeping up with are feathers for my arrows. Cant ever seem to find birds outside of the meadows with consistency.
been playing with a couple buddies. just did my first dungeon last night. woo boy how bout them ghouls!
One of my party just likes exploring and dies quite often. We're still in Black Forest and he went into the Plains. Got clapped over and over. We made a rescue mission to save his body and loaded up our ship. We all died at least once lol. But eventually we made a portal and escaped with everyone.
I think almost all of my deaths are related to going with him somewhere we shouldn't be or trying to help him recover his body haha. Those mosquitos and goblin warrior fuckers slap when all you're rolling in with is troll hide lol.
last night i died in very shallow water because i didnt realize it was connected to a swamp and leeches were there. i didnt have any health because i dont eat before getting on a boat. im also always the person to carry portal stuff but i forgot to get it before we left. so they had to search a huge black forest for the one burial chambers to get surtling cores. took about an hour.
Our night was pretty productive, Plains debacle aside. We finished the moat and bridge with accompanying spikes to our settlement in the Black Forest, did some mining, and then finally took on the Elder. Should have done some prep before summoning, there was 1 star Troll and a greydwarf spawner in addition to the Elder. Everyone either ran out of arrows or almost did.
debo did that once in no mans sky. for hours. because he didnt realize you had to hold square to start the game.
we killed the elder with one of our group not playing last night. can we resummon and kill him again in same world or do we have to create another one and progress to that point for him to try him?
so basically can farm any boss infinitely if i have the stuff they need for their altar? ancient seeds in this case.
