Very curious to see where the hip-hop angle gets taken. My cousin was a pioneer in hip-hop. He started this label in 1980... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Profile_Records
starting to enjoy it more, i agree with the others saying the murder makes things a little convoluted his record company is by far the most interesting thing to me
Really disliked last nights episode. The "Richie really loves coke" thing is just really played out to me by this point...it's bordering on the absurd right now Also the whole murder angle just doesn't fit with the rest of the show and seems very out of place
show seems to keep moving away from the music/label each episode. I'd prefer it to be less about the characters and more about the era ...
It just doesn't seem to be up to HBO standards as far as the writing is concerned. Not one of the storylines seems very interesting to me. The problem with having an anti-hero as the main character is that even though you know that they are a terrible person, you still want to be able to root for them. Tony Soprano, Don Draper, Walter White. Richie is just so one-dimensional right now. I just don't care about him. And that's really a shame because this story, set in this timeframe with this subject should be a knockout. I guess what I'm saying is that I really enjoyed seeing Olivia Wilde's tits and bush.
I liked the episode. Saw the Ernst thing coming from a mile away, but it helps pull the story together and make everything make more sense. FYI, the bush is a merkin. She was on Howard Stern this week and she stalked about being fitted for a 70s bush.
I realized Ernst was dead pretty early on but it was a fun episode in a nightmarish sort of way. Excellent writing. This was the best episode by far, really tied things up. Loving this show.
Weird episode... Ray Romano in a threesome and fat Elvis discussing Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Enjoyed the Shoals shoutout tho
too much incompetency like how am i supposed to believe these guys had a successful company to begin with?
Starting to wonder where this is going, but am hopeful it will rebound. I agree with the part about the anti-hero being tough to take at times. Last night when he seemed normal was when he actually was at his worst. So messed up what he did.
Piano kid from the bat mitzvah is gonna save their bacon, calling my shot. Is that supposed to be a knock off Billy Joel or something?
if we're playing this game... demoted-to-mailroom A&R is going to find redemption when the dudes working with him down there clue him into the block party/dj scene. (They tease Lester as being that cultural bridge, but I think in the end this is A&R dude's win) also since nobody has really mentioned it, I actually really like the Jamie character. Her battle with her mom is very intriguing to me for some reason.
Missed the last 3 eps and based on a scan of this page, don't think I'm gonna bother to catch up. A merkin, really?
I really have no clue where this show is going now. It's so all over the place that it's getting hard to watch. I don't get all of these "run ins" with musicians. The dream sequence interludes used to sort of make sense, but now they are just forced (Beach Boys in the plane). I really wish this show would have just stuck with the simple story of Richie rebuilding his record company based on talent that he and his crew brought in. Oh yeah, there's also a murder that hasn't really been brought up for a while. And The Nasty Bits, do you guys remember them? They are managed by the black dude who hasn't been in a couple of episodes who seemed to be an important character early on. But fuck it. We need to see Ray Romano in a threesome, because THAT is advancing the story.
exactly what I've been looking for. this shoulda been the third ep, right after the intro/deal gone bad & discovery of the Nasty Bits. they could then focus a lot more of the season on blending in the discovery of hip-hop. they've spent 7 eps teasing it, just jump in goddamnit
Terrence Winter is out, pretty surprising http://deadline.com/2016/04/vinyl-showrunner-terence-winter-exits-hbo-1201734449/
ray romano hits like a girl the two blondes in this show are bad as fuck. that swedish girl is a dime and the curly headed one a'int a slouch either. ol' nasty bit is gonna regret sharing that nice episode tonight, maybe my favorite so far. enjoyed the scene with richie coming clean to dev. first time the guy has appeared as a decent human being the entire series, ironically.
Really enjoyed the finale. Nice to see Richie actually competent and running everything like a badass. Also happy to see that mobster who was involved in the Buck Rogers stuff go. That guy was really annoying.
A few comments on the finale and the season in general... Overall - Good show, not great but will keep watching Surprised that Olivia Wilde was not in the finale at all. Felt there needed to be some status update there just to let us know something. The mafia stuff is ridiculous. Let me get this straight. They just got pinched at the junkyard. They already knwo that Ray Romano will narc out his longtime close business partner. They bring all three down and easily switch their idea of who narced? Then they proceeded to kill him in front of them and let them walk off into the sunset? Does anyone else find this ridiculously implausible? Like the disco angle Nasty Bits song is growing on me Lester needs to be more involved. I care more about him getting things right than probably any of the other people on the show because he was a victim whereas they are just idiots.
Agree on all of this. The thing with the mafia was that the idiot they shot had a tendency to run his mouth and just made everyone an accessory to murder (after the fact) and was continually offending the boss. They both SHOULD have died, but I can see why the one that did, did.
yes, but what about the loose ends who just witnessed a murder and can pin it on him, especially if he was wrong.
I can't disagree with that at all other than to say (probably) Galasso really wants that 100k back and thinks Richie and Zak need to live to make it happen. It was another stupid occurrence in a show with many of them. I just liked the finale because it felt like they were actually getting into the music and less about Richie fucking shit up
Not sure, but That shit lawyer wants to bone him so bad In the meantime, I'm going to practice my Richie finestra strut
