I understand, not trying to be a dick. However, people are less likely to stick with it when they find out they have to pay $20 for a record that sounds worse than an mp3 file.
I'm not sure about that. I got this a few years ago for $40-50 when it came out now there's one on ebay and discogs for $350. I've seen others sell btw $150-250. I believe that the GD live album is a one time limited run also. At least that's what most of the RSR are. It's a way to get people out to their local record stores. https://www.discogs.com/CRB-Bettys-SF-Blends-Volume-One/release/5144411
There are exceptions for sure, but in the case of this year's dead release - I was probably right. Seems like prices have settled in around what I paid for it. Probably printed a lot more than the CRB release. I love CRB, by the way. Very cool that you scored that.
I found out a couple days ago that CunninLynguists reprinted A Piece of Strange for it's 10 year anniversary a few months back, and, naturally, they had been sold out for a while now, so that was pretty disappointing
Finally got my table set up a few months ago. Pro-Ject Debut Carbon PS Audio Sprout Integrated Amp Wharfedale Diamond 220 speakers
Rummaged through some stuff my parents wanted to throw away and found a 35 year old Thorens 146. Running it through the amp we have in our sitting room which is pretty new (Yamaha Aventage that runs the surround sound). Will the sound improve appreciably with an independent amp & speakers? Right now it's running through the JBL's we have installed in the room (5.1 setup in the ceiling).
So I've been collecting for a few months now but I absolutely have to upgrade my setup. Any recs for an entry level player and speaker set up?
Probably gonna try and stay under 300 for the turntable. I've been eyeing the Audio Techna 120 I think and the Uturn orbits. The Uturns look great but I could get the Audio faster lol
I like my pro-ject, and it’s in that range. Upgrading the cartridge is key - can do that for like $100 w/ the grado green. Though installation / work on audio can get $.
That's the other one I've been trying to read up on too. Wish I could do the carbon one but I have to buy speakers too.
I just wish I knew where I could get them locally. I can get a 120 right now at best buy or order a refurbished one on Amazon for about 50 bucks less.
Thrift stores are gold mines sometimes if you don't mind digging. They just throw a $2 price tag on all the albums without even looking. I got Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, Grateful Dead, and Willie Nelson albums for $10 total at this place in Alabaster one time.
I have no problem finding records here. It's the record player I'm stuck on. Found a 1977 press of Merle doing Elvis songs as a tribute and paid $4.
So I can do an Orbit custom where I add a preamp, cue and upgraded cartridge for 344 shipped. Or I can do a factory refurbed 120 from Amazon for 239 with prime shipping. Seems like an easy choice considering I have to buy powered speakers too.
No I'm in Nashville. I should just go to some of the bigger record stores here and see if they have turntables as well. If not then order the 120 off Amazon. What about some decent powered speakers that won't break the bank?
I've never been in to a vinyl store that didn't also sell used hardware. It's worth taking the time to look, and talking to someone at one of them.
Pioneer PL 12d The art dj pre with the headphone out Whatever shure or audio technica cartridge you can afford. Save up for the rest of the stereo
Ended up with the Audio Technica 120 and some powered bookshelves from a pawnshop that sound pretty damn good actually. Adjusting the counterweight was more difficult than I realized.
The American Highway 4 was a Christmas present from the GF. Haven't even found a used one around here and she finds an unopened original on Ebay. Of course I opened and listened to it immediately lol.
I have an Audio Technica LP3, currently hooked up to a Marshall Stanmore. I did have it on a Yamaha receiver and speakers/sub, but that was way too space consuming.
My only two real good hip hop ones are both ones the GF found online. I've found a few hip hop ones here but they are generally always either shitty singles or remastered/rereleased which I'm trying to stay away from. I did find an original Dr Dre 2001 here in Nashville but the lady wanted $45 or $50.
I haven't actually listened to that one yet but when I saw it I had to have it. I thought I had found an original Wu Tang 36 Chambers. But then saw they had like 10 of them unopened, turns out they were re-releases that didn't say it on the cover.
most reissues don't if you see a record from the 90s that's shrink-rapped you just have to assume it's a reissue.
