So, I have the direct output from my turntable (audio technica) into the "line in" for the Sonos amp. Once Sonos is set up, you select the "line in" source to play through the amp and then any of the selected Sonos speakers (or all of them) will play what the turntable is playing. There is also a "line out" on the amp which I send to my receiver which drives my old school floor speakers in my office so if I only want to hear it in the office, I can do that. The only downside is that (I think) only Sonos speaker work with the Sonos amp, not random wireless or Bluetooth speakers. But, I like the Sonos product for what I need so it is no big deal for me. I've got speakers all over the house and outside on the deck so for parties and such, it works really well having them all going at the same time.
Do you folks keep your vinyl sleeves in the plastic sleeves that most record stores sell them in? I’m all for preserving the cardboard sleeve, but it makes reading the titles of the albums on the side tough at quick glance.
I use sleeves from sleevecity. I store the record behind the cardboard sleeve so I can easily grab the record without having to take out the sleeve. Also helps preserve the sleeve.
Well, I pulled the trigger. Here's how my setup shook out.. Uturn Orbit Special with built in Preamp Audioengine A5+ Piece I found off Etsy
Took like a month for it to all come in, but finally have my setup complete. Now resisting the urge to spend hundreds of dollars on albums. Spoiler
Speaking of originals. If there are any some of yall are looking for and havent found let me know and I can look around Nashville. Pretty easy to find rock and country for cheap around here.
I've literally only bought new shit so far. Been lazy and just ordering some of my favorites off Amazon/Discoggs.
GF randomly got me the Duane Allman Anthology this Saturday. Don't remember telling her that he was my favorite guitarist. Pretty sure she just looked through my records and saw a half dozen random albums of his and made a fantastic decision. Got the Anthology II from my dad for christmas last year. Not sure what other non-ABB stuff is out there for me to get
Big fan of building a collection of original presses, but for my bday my fiancé got me: Fleetwood Mac - Rumours Black Keys - Thickfreakness Dr. Dog - Fate Van Morrison - Moondance
Found a nearly pristine copy of tea for the tillerman in a thrift store in Rosenberg, TX yesterday for $5
Look I have refined tastes when it comes to my music library and I will not stand for such disrespect.
We have 3 major vinyl shops in Jax. Two of them buy from people that sell their collections and new stuff, so they usually have a pretty large selection of big name albums. The third is the largest, least organized, and most eclectic. I often wander through there and won’t see a band name I’ve ever heard of for a good 15 minutes. They buy whole collections of hundreds of albums of a single genre. Sometimes it’s something amazing like 80s punk...but sometimes it’s chinese symphony. It’s nice to know there’s at least one person out there that appreciates seemingly random stuff.
What’s everybody looking for tomorrow? No big must-haves for me, but will grab a couple of these based on availability. Probably top priority on the James Brown, ABB and Herbie. Jerry Garcia Band - Electric on the Eel Grateful Dead - The Warfield 10/9/80 Pink Floyd - A Saucerful of Secrets Sly & The Family Stone - Woodstock 8/17/69 Allman Brother’s Band - Fillmore East 1970 James Brown - Sho Is Funky Down Here Herbie Hancock - Dedication Otis Redding w/ Booker T & The MGs - Monterey POP Festival Townes Van Zandt - Best of Fela Kuti - Music of Many Colours
I’m gonna try to hit most of Local shops in the afternoon, buy a bunch of used records, and not be a d-bag. Trying to offset the typical RSD crowd.
Imagine early 1970. NRPS with Jerry > acoustic Dead > psychedelic Dead. Purest L you could ever imagine. We really missed out.
Yeah, it’s insane. I’m reading the new CSNY book right now - after Deja Vu they kinda melted down and went their own way. Jerry was all over Crosby & Nash’s solo records (I think both were from 71). Dude was everywhere. Both of those records totally rule, btw.
He left after the Fall 71 Grateful Dead tour. Their self titled album is the obvious starting point, but you can find live recordings on the Archive. They also have a few official live releases.
Start with the self titled record for sure. They have some other good stuff, and there are some great live shows on the archive, but the first record is the classic.
Sadly the local spot just opened and didn’t have too much in but I did snag him and a bunch of OG ABB (all used vinyl was 50% off)
came home with james brown- sho is funky down here lightnin hopkins - strums the blues the sylvers - the sylvers bernard purdie - soul is...pretty purdie james cotton - late night blues fela kuti & roy ayers - music of many colours might have to snag that blood on the tracks original ny test pressing. i have an og boot but it sounds like shit. going to look online for too short - the pimp tape
Have another two shops to hit, but I snagged this at the first shop. It was more than I planned on paying, but I’ve never seen it in the wild and Pharoah Sanders is my fucking dude.
If you happen into one of your shops that has the RSD Otis Redding album, I’ll pay you whatever it cost. By the time I got free today, my primary shop was cleaned out and the backup doesn’t do RSD because they don’t have a street-facing window. Stupid rule because they’re actually the largest shop in the city.
But they’d just bought a big collection of late 70s/early 80s punk that I grabbed a few of, so not a waste of a day.
Snagged the Dylan- Blood on the Tracks test pressing and the Chris Robinson Brotherhood single. Two things I absolutely didn’t need but couldn’t say “no” to.
