I want to like Milton so bad but he just won’t let me. He holds the ball too long and takes unnecessary sacks. He is huge and athletic but somehow doesn’t want to run. He always seems to make the wrong decision. Instead of running or throwing on a 4th down conversion against A&M he did neither. He threw the ball away on the last play of the game against Ole Miss a couple years ago. He drives me fucking crazy. That being said if he pulls it off this week I’ll love him forever.
I feel similarly. But also, it isn’t fair to compare him to Hooker for several reasons. For one, Hooker is just way better. Also, the WRs were often streaming open across the field last year in a way that isn’t happening this year.
He just doesn't have a feel for the game and quick decision making skills to play at the level we saw from Hooker. Don't think you can throw Nico to the dogs this weekend, but I've got to think he's fairly close to being ready. Sucks he's not gotten a real opportunity to this point. It's not like he got here this summer; he's been on campus close to a year now. It kind of stinks because Joe seems to be a good guy and is obviously physically gifted. Agree, though. If we win this weekend Joe will be remembered forever. GBO.
This is what's the most frustrating issue I have this year. Last year he and Squirrel seemed to have a good connection on the deep ball and it isn't there this year.
For me Milton just can’t process the game quickly. Like many have said, he holds the ball too long and seems to always be late. He can’t throw to a spot. The lack of situational awareness is stunning. That 3rd and long play was another example - aTM jumped offsides, he misses Sampson who was open for a split second, then runs out of bounds short of the sticks…..on a free play. I think this is probably the 4th or 5th time he’s failed to take a chance downfield on a free play. Receivers and officials haven’t done him any favors, but he isn’t very good. All the complaining aside, this needed to be Joe's team and Nico the understudy until they absolutely have no choice other than to make the change. At 5-1 they haven't had to make that decision yet regardless of how ugly QB play has been. And really this team should be 6-0 right now except for the annual UF meltdown, and that was on everyone from staff to player.
Congrats on reaching the acceptance stage of Milton Fever. When he got here, there was a lot of chatter that he had #1 pick potential, but he just didn't develop in any of the skills needed to play QB. Throwing the ball 70 yards from one knee rarely comes up in games. He couldn't keep Cade McNamara off the field, he never would have stood a chance vs. McCarthy. He should have converted to TE as a freshman.
the reason I cut Milton a break is because he looked damn good when the offense was already clicking vs. Clemson last year. Playing Nico this year would be a mistake imo. He should only play as an emergency option (AKA, Milton gets hurt or is just so bad there is no choice but to move on).
Would probably have seen more of him had the defense not scored so much. Was hoping they would run a play at the end and see if Shuler could score.
Nico passes the eye test. Would like for him to gain 15 lbs and land us a couple plug and play linemen in the portal
I think it is a good sign that we've recruited better on defense than offense under Heupel. They clearly done well with a bunch of evals in both recruiting the portal and high school.
Last years defense class was really underrated. Very excited for the young guys. Think we misfired on the Oregon kid
Nah. Thornton will be good next year. He isn't as good as Squirrel, and is an outside guy anyway. I know his plan was one and done, but he'll catch more balls from Nico than Milton if he is smart enough to stay.
Gainey looks like an upgrade on Key as well. I get why that Harvard transfer went through a month of practice and figured out he wasn’t going to start
Doing a lot of stupid shit. But Knecht is the first guy who can create his own shot at will we've had in awhile
Defense has been lost since Hadden got hurt. Also, Tennessee opponents haven't had a live ball flag thrown on them in over 10 quarters.
Between the Florida game, Bama game and this game, I feel like I’m losing my mind. We are obviously an undisciplined team. But it is insane how we never draw PI or holding.
This was definitely a transition year. I didn't expect us to be as good as last year but holy shit this game and the Florida game should have been winnable games. The Florida game will definitely haunt me.
I'm gonna listen to some post game stuff, and I fully expect some hate on Milton, but unless I'm and idiot, no one has been able to gain any speration on the deep play like last year. I for sure thought squirrel would be able to step in to that Hyatt role and it didn't happen. But it didn't in the Vandy game and the orange bowl. I don't know. I'm drunk and sad.
Milton was pretty good today. Defense was bad. Dumb penalties. Both turnovers on the RBs. Play calling left a lot to be desired. Not on him at all
