It will be a 16570 if it happens, the other option I gave her was the Omega 300. Told her she needs to tell me now if she didn't get it because I'm cancelling the wedding if it doesn't happen.

Is this watch too far gone to bring back to life? It still works, but is the condition too shitty to bring it back?

Go on the omega website and sign up for an account. They have a service tab, tell them what’s wrong with the watch and send photos... they will email or call back and let you know if they can fix it. They do awesome work there, it’s like $500 for the complete service, but it’ll come back looking brand new and recertified.

Trying to help my brother up his wardrobe game (Xpress shirts, bracelets, family sizes box, etc.)

Give me your best sub $100 dress watch.

He’s a wee feller, so I’m leaning towards a Skagen, just don’t love any of their leather band offerings.

Get him a Timex Weekender. It's a classic design that looks good with everything. On a leather trap at under $40 (link), there is plenty of money left over for a metal bracelet and a selection of nylon straps. Having all those NATO straps is what makes this choice a winner. Also, given that he's a "wee feller," the 38mm size should be just about right.

Since you're looking for a dress watch (which generally tells me "metal band") and since you've already mentioned Skagen, it seems like you're looking for something a little more unique than the tried-but-true Seiko series 5. Perhaps a Vostok? Can't imagine that he'd run into too many people who have a Russian military watch. At 40mm and heavier than a Skagen, not sure about the size, though. Regardless, it's a pretty cool watch for the price.

She had enough to drink after our shower last night to show it to me. She can't keep a secret. A black Explorer II 16570 with our wedding date engraved on the back has been in her nightstand for 3 months. She got it from Crown & Caliber. Will be on my wrist in 41 days.

She kept telling me she was going to name our first child Timex and he'd go by Timmy.

Juan Thank you for keeping a secret and insuring it for us. Greatly appreciate it.

I'd probably go tissot quartz here. Cheap metal bands tend to look cheap, so I'd go leather

Pretty much screwed. A scratch is an crevice type line in the crystal. Pretty much the only thing you can do is have it replaced.

What stric said. Some light surface scratches can be buffed/polished out by a watchsmith.

I recently got two watches back. The first is my everyday, Seiko Urchin beater. I replaced the scratched, factory crystal with a domed one and also replaced the bezel insert with a ceramic one. I think it tinted out pretty good
    [IMG]

Then, this one, i think i posted about a while back. I found it in my dad’s old jewelry box. He’d totally forgotten it was given to him in 1981 by a client. It wasn’t running, so I had to get it serviced, but it looks good as new.

I didn’t and actually had a hard time finding a jeweler to do it. Finally found some Russian in a seedy part of town who ended up doing a good job.
High Cotton has some modded Seikos (i think) and was going to ask him where he had them done or if he does it himself.
The bezel insert seems easy enough in YouTube videos, but I’m pretty sure you need a special tool for the crystal.

Not sure if it's the same process, but I switched out the hands on one of my watches. The crystal needs to be pressure sealed iirc. I found a local watchmaker who was certified who did it for me in 30 minutes

If I'm looking for a modded Seiko, I'm scouring forums like WUS for the Albacore from Yobokies. Harold Ng has done a pretty cool job riffing on the Tuna.

Seiko makes a watch called the Tuna because it kinda looks like a can of tuna. Harold Ng is a watchmaker who is well known for modding Seikos and goes by the name of Yobokies, which is "Seiko boy" spelled backwards. The Albacore is his version of the Tuna. You can find many of his watches for sale on watchuseek.com (WUS). If I'm ever looking for rare and/or expensive watches that are used but generally well-kept, I skim the WUS boards.

I've spent way too many hours scouring watchuseek.com and head-fi.org. A few years ago, I had to stop obsessing over watches and headphones. "Sorry about your wallet" and all of that. Headphones especially can be a nasty diversion. When you're spending hundreds for a 3-inch cable, well...

Leaning towards a King Seiko for my next purchase. I don’t have a dress watch, and I really love the look of the old Seikos. Seems like $500 or less is the sweet spot for a good condition KS.
