I hate you all. Wife is out of town next weekend so I’m going to go look at Hamilton’s and Longines on my wrist. Might go to look at Ball’s too, but that’s a longer trip.
Who I know & what I do is a valuable commodity locally... I'm a mortgage broker in Jax & I've helped several of the jewelers with financing. The thousands I've saved them means "lists" don't always apply & generally gets me better pricing. That, coupled with maintaining regular contact with dealers/jewelers across the country & referring business their direction helps speed the process along.
Specifically with the BB58, I mentioned that I want one. I've already received a heads up 3 times this year. There are 2 locally (nato & leather strap) that I could walk in & purchase today. Instead, they are attempting to swap them out for a steel bracelet. My fall back is an AD up in NJ, who I have purchased several items. They are high volume & are tight with the Tudor reps. They get allocated everything 1st
I also feel like Tudor has ramped up production of the 58, so it will begin to be more available. I went from getting a call about once a quarter, to three in 2 months. That's no coincidence.
Research ADs that do not have locations in your state (avoid state tax & they all ship for free). Call & tell them what timepiece you are looking for... tell them you are calling ADs regionally/nationally looking for the right deal. If they negotiate (some do not), they will tell you what they can do... rinse & repeat. They will not give you their discount in writing/email, as they could lose their AD distinction. 10-15% off is pretty typical, but is highly driven by the brand, piece & demand. Sales tax here is 7%, so avoiding that is huge when you get into the more expensive price-points
Going to take a look at the Royal Oak Ultra-Thin at the Vegas boutique on Thursday. Close to pulling the trigger, I think.
I've only worn an AP once. It was in a showroom at the Caesars Forum Shops. I was wondering why they would let a 21yo put it on there wrist
I am surprised they have one for you to look at. I stopped by a few months ago and the salesperson laughed at me when I asked if they had any jumbos.
I have a very good rec for a guy in the NYC Diamond District if anyone is ever in town and wants to purchase. He can literally get anything with just a couple days notice. Very competitive pricing. He will charge a $500 deposit but it is completely refundable and there's really no pressure.
LMAO I saw the movie a couple weeks after spending several hours in the Diamond District. Truly the biggest cesspool I have borne witness to. Absolute fucking scum of the earth. Not bad if you go straight to the dude's store and don't have to deal with anyone else harassing you.
Yes, we are in agreement. Seiko's whole appeal was their value at a low price point, but now they are not only raising prices, but microbrands are offering way better offerings at a lower price. You can a microbrand with a NH35, sapphire, 300m WR and a ton of other features for the same price or less as a Seiko with the same movement and Hardlex.
Yeah, went today. They absolutely didn’t. The guy was a dick, too. I did try the 37mm and 41mm RO and love the fit of the 37 more than i thought i would. Working on sourcing now. I think he would’ve sold me the 37mm for list but I want the slate grey. Looks around $25k right now on the market, at least with the minimal research I’ve done.
I think the 37mm in slate is less expensive. Maybe 19-22k retail. I just remember that it is cheaper than the blue one. That is a great buy. Frankly, I think the 37mm looks better on most wrists than the 39mm because of the design. Obviously that is subjective.
What store did you go to that had a 41mm RO? And in what colors? I have 2 buddies who are looking to buy and would be interested if they had one in store.
Haven’t found a BB58 with bracelet yet. Will likely pivot, grab one with a leather strap & have them add a bracelet to cover the difference in $$$
Vegas boutique at Crystals. The 41mm was the 18k gold with the black dial. The guy told me both that he showed me were “for his current customers” (i looked at a 37mm steel as well) but then offered me the 37mm at $19,300 “if i was serious.” He was a colossal douche, so who knows.
I went 39mm. The 41mm is a bit big and I have the 126600 Sea Dweller and wanted something new that wears a bit lighter.
Nice I forgot they made it in 39mm. 15300 right? What year? Where’d you get it? And how much? I assume pre-owned. I have the 15400. The white/silver dial is the best one they make imo. It’s the perfect fit for the finishing on the bracelet. The blue is great too. You’ll love it.
Cheap watch question: Amex sent me a $100 gift certificate for vincero. Is it worth the $59 after I take $100 off or should I just spend it on a wallet or bracelet?
They’re just fashion watches, so it all depends on whether or not you really like them. They’re not something that you’re buying for their quality or value. I’d probably grab a wallet or pair of sunglasses, with the former being a much safer bet than the latter. Maybe toss in a watch band for another time piece to get the rest of the value from the gift card?
I know everyone's focus during this global pandemic and ensuing recession is on wrist watches. So with that being said, why the fuck does Christopher Ward take the time to design and produce (imo) the most impressive catalog by a microbrand and then go ahead and completely ruin ALL OF IT with that god forsaken text logo. I mean my god man.
