Thread keeps helping me choose watches to wear. This was my first “big” purchase. Would I spend the money I paid for it on a different piece? Sure, but I still enjoy wearing it.
I own a Tag and like it
I like the racing heritage of Tag, being a bit of a car guy myself. I don’t love the overall sporty feel of the line though; just not my thing.
Along with being automatic movement, that Calibre 1887 can be worn both casually or dressy which was part of the appeal. It’s also a tank and doesn’t feel like the Panerai or Breitling
Team buy what you want
Team buy what you want, too… I’m just gonna judge you if it’s a quartz Tag
I own a quartz Tag
My tag is not quartz
Same, but also team Jorts.
I’m gonna judge you if you pick poorly.
Maybe. Maybe not.
I have my trashy takes and poor choices too.
I think we're all on the same page. There are varying degrees of knowledge in here, and the newer peeps can benefit from mistakes of our past (see my quartz Tag Aquaracer purchase 15+ years ago). Feel like the post that spurned this conversation was someone looking for help, which I attempted to provide.
The F1 isn't a bad looking watch... But Helios is twice the watch at 1/2 the price
yeah I decided to go with the Seikos
and then wait for the Halios to release the Universa
Prospex is a great line. I have the turtle diver. Congrats!
Happy bday Jorts
Yes, and that’s also a danger too. At X price, if I add some more, I can get Y watch brand/model. As you get closer, well, if I save X more, I can get Z brand/model instead.
Twice the watch?
It’s fucking quartz. Get a Swatch, or a Timex Weekender
Little surprised to see Halios talk in here. Currently have a Delphin, had a 1st gen Puck but sold it recently.
I’ve always wanted a TAG but was always too cheap. I finally broke down this weekend and got an Aquaracer 43mm chronograph. Love it.
I have G Shock. Love it. Wear it anytime I’m not working or going out with the wife.
these posts so close together made me laugh but I don’t know shit about watches nor really care but I like looking at y’all’s watches
My dad has this watch.
I’m guessing he has the actual yacht master and not the Seiko knockoff homage?
Yes and was a naval engineer for 40 years.
Falls under the “get what you like” mantra
Dirk Pitt Doxa fan here, new 200 is awesome.
I don't know much about watches so been trying to watch and read to educate myself. Just learned about Doxa last week in a couple videos. These old ones are pretty cool imo.
Saw this on an Instagram ad, and I am intrigued.
Just purchased an Apple Watch, Series 7
For my wife & it still killed me. She assured me in no way would it impact her desire for a Speedy 38 or Santos De Cartier.
I created a monster
Hey man this is the watch thread not the Apple thread, you seem to be lost.
Went to a watch show thing Thursday night and got to try on a lot of watches I'd otherwise never get to. Really glad I did bc it showed me how differently some watches wear. Like I really like the Daytona but it wears really small. The 40mm Sub wore much bigger to me than the 40mm Daytona. I guess it was the bulkier bezel? And I feel much better about a watch like a 44mm Deep Sea. It's big but doesn't feel like an anchor on my wrist.
The “James Cameron” Sea Dweller has I think the best dial Rolex makes. Shame it’s so thick.
That's the one I think I'm going to start with. Just need to finish a few more house projects until I get to it.
Yeah, I told him that's what he needed to do a few months back. It's a great piece that requires meat-hooks to wear
ORIGINAL GAS ESCAPE VALVE
RING LOCK SYSTEM
James, we get it. Why are you yelling?
I have the 43mm SD50 and it doesn't at all wear like a 43mm to me. Wears like a 41.5mm and not too thick. That was the one concern I had when I bought that watch and it was easily dismissed upon first wear.
The variations between brands and models is fascinating. I love trying on a watch and getting surprised by how it wears.
There have been a lot of robberies at gunpoint for people's watches in BH and Weho lately - pretty damn scary to be honest.
Several have been broad daylight while people are eating lunch.
give them that fake replica that will teach them
What's funny is I guarantee this happens pretty often so these idiots are risking serious jail time for a worthless watch.
Would've been good to know before I spent most of last week walking around BH and WeHo. I actually thought at one point "maybe I should've left the watch in the room" before thinking "nah, this is LA. Shit's a dime a dozen."
It's been a recent phenomena - also one of the attempted robbers got the shit kicked out of them on Melrose last week. They went after someone without realizing he had a squad inside.
So definitely don't wear a nice watch in LA anytime soon - we've already had 4 armed robberies for watches/purses tonight in BH and Weho and it's 7:46 PM here.
We have straight up organized crime doing this - happens every day/night now.
Perfect time to give my wife a fucking Patek
They’ve been jacking fools on the west coast since I was little. Taking sneakers, watches, chains, jackets…..shit isn’t new. Used to run it by a front and get cash.
I've been here 11 years and I've never seen anything remotely similar to this.
Send it to me for safekeeping, most people around me don’t know a Patek from a Fossil.
I think this is such a nice looking watch.
Have any of you seen it for sale at a decent price?
$1300 off retail
