Show has made it pretty clear the graphic novel is canon to the series (raining squids), so I'd definitely read it instead of watching the movie. It's not really that long of a read, and it adds an incredible amount of context to the show for a viewer.
After some light internet background reading, I'm 100% ready for the rest of a show I don't yet fully understand.
The movie would probably be my third choice behind reading it and riding it out blind. But to someone that wants a quick overview of the universe, it’s not a bad way to go. And yeah the squid change is not helpful in this instance
While I’m obviously bummed that we’re not going to get more Don Johnson in a role that he’s so perfectly cut out for, it’s a great inciting incident because Johnson’s uncanny ability to make that character feel lived-in in just one episode will permeate the show’s run.
Spoiler If true (show could have just listed him as appearing to not give away his death), flashbacks of him reorganizing and being one of the undercover leaders of the 7th Kav, IMO.
I’m dubious of this. I think it’s best to leave him dead and have Regina slowly find out that he’s not who he seems. Spoiler Unless he’s Nite Owl
Yeah I don’t know and not sure I want to know. That was as deep of a spoiler as I wanted to go and it wasn’t that much. And yeah TheGrifter I don’t know if that site strives to be accurate or not or would play games like that
No. Read the book. The show is a continuation of the book. The movie took liberties with the ending that don't fit with the show.
Yep. It really is amazing how Snyder completely missed the point of the story that he claimed to be such a huge fan of. Sepinwal summed up the movie perfectly: Snyder’s take has its moments (particularly an opening credits montage inserting superheroes into iconic American images across four decades), but in faithfully adapting the comic’s pulpy plot, it missed all the conceptual daring that was the important part. Characters who were meant to illustrate the absurd arrested development of superheroics were instead badasses having fights with bullet-time effects. It was like someone proving they could trace over a Picasso painting, without understanding what the original artist was doing with his strange rendering of the human anatomy.
My wife, who has seen the movie, turned to me and asked why it was raining shrimp and I started to explain the connection but stopped because I couldn’t answer exactly why
I’ve read 2 articles and am another article and a podcast away from talking out of my ass about this show over drinks with friends.
Thanks for sharing that. Had neither seen nor read anything Watchmen until the premier last night. Thoroughly enjoyed the show and am equally confused by the show. Planning on picking up the graphic novel as advised itt.
This series on HBO leading more people to the Watchmen graphic novel is a win in itself. There is a reason it is on the Top 100 Novels. With that said, this series has been great through one episode.
You want to hear people ask the same questions that you'd have and guess at Reddit theories that won't be accurate?
Remember how the episode started with a movie about a black man bringing down a corrupt sheriff and making the people who trusted him aware of his corruption? Also, it looked like the black man was the villain when it started. That last scene... God I love shows that get me speculating in between episodes.
In my younger days I’d already be sizing up an opponent ITT to go 12 pages with on fan theories. I’ll settle for a front row seat if and when that happens in here.
The shrimp falling from the sky was an attempt from dr Manhattan at ending world hunger. Also a metaphor for the regular every day people being of minor importance to the superheroes that exist.
It being Oklahoma fully expect them to run for shelters next week during the cheddar biscuit tornadoes
I read the entire thing in 3 sittings last night, today during lunch and just finished before the game. Spoiler I like the metaphor of these Kalvary turds twisting rorschach‘s strict moral code to fit whatever shitty racist purity code they’re fighting for. That’s good social commentary right thurrr
Been a long time that a show has had me jonesing for the next episode like this one. First episode was imo perfect. Feels right
