Just finished. Matt Dillon Juliette Lewis Terrence Howard plus a few others I recognize but don't know their name. Pretty good. I'm intrigued going forward
The fact they switch away to characters outside Wayward Pines is a sign he isn't dead. If he was dead, the show would focus exclusively on his environment, since nothing outside that would really exist.
Its all Purgatory I swear lol My pure guess is this Adam guy was in love with Matt Dillons Wife. So now he has sent him and the agent he was having an affair with to this weird fucking science experiment. We saw that Adam and that "psychiatrist" dude knew each other.
Has anybody else read the book series this is based on? I'm really curious to see what everyone thinks once everything is revealed. Carla Gugino just gets better with age.
I just got the first book. Hoping to read it before next week's episode. Do you think they'll use all 3 books for the series or just the first?
Sepinwall and Fienberg were discussing it on their pod. Dan never specifically said it, but made it sound like they used all 3. Also made it seem like they're most like longer short stories
It's a really quick read. From what I've read they use all 3 books and that Book 1 ends at Episode 5.
Have you both read them? Should I read the 3 before and start watching after I read them? How long would you say it should take me to read each?
I would definitely read the 1st book. The 2nd book adds a little to the mythology and is another quick read but I didn't like it as much as the 1st book. The 3rd book was a big step down. Reading 2 & 3 will really depend on how you respond to the reveal. I got through the 1st book on a 4 hr flight and had time to spare.
I feel like m night shyamalan is going to get a lot of shit for the twist from people that have not read the book. I will say it is interesting and not something I saw coming.
Yeah very quick. It took me. Two days but that was in between doing other shit. Books are about 300 pages but really easy read and many of the pages Are Like this with one or two page lines which make it go faster.

No discussion? Well here go my thoughts. I am 2 episodes and 1 and a half books in. I'll try not to spoil anything. 1. Casting choices are strange to say the least. Kate, Pam, Ethan's son and the sheriff are all miscast. 2. The show is a cluster fuck. They are attempting to do way too fucking much. 3 books in 10 episodes is way too fucking much. 3. I'd either read the books after the show or I would not read them. I'll just say they are changing things about the story that make sense in the books that don't in the show. Knowing what I know that is pissing me off. Maybe nor knowing certain things would make the show better. Codename Duchess I don't remember the signs with the rules in the book, are they in it or was it added for the tv show.
I'd read them because they are decent quick reads. But, I'd wait. Reading so close to watching is definitely fucking with my understanding and time line .
I really don't have any desire to read the books. I liked ep 2. Now that everyone is introduced and you kind of know what's going on. As far as keeping everyone in town goes
The signs with the rules weren't in the book. I'm with you on the casting choices especially Pam. Melissa Leo is not what I pictured at all when reading the books.
Finished the books. I'll say I like them as a whole. What I mean is that taking them as a long book is better than seeing them as 3 individual books. This way it has a clear beginning, middle and end. I know I said they are trying to do too much but after reading the series I don't think that anymore. The twist is cool the ending is fine. I hope they stick with the progression of the books. Not to spoil anything but what they did with Kate scares me because it is not in tune with her character in the novel.
Fuck it. I'm buying the books. Sounds like they are pretty good, and the show is treading toward disappointing territory in comparison. From what others have said, I'll probably have them finished before the next ep if they hook me.
Just caught up. The ending of the third episode has me very wary. Seems to me like this would be better as a full 1 season and not 10 episode event
I finished the first book. Like others have said, it's a quick read. I do have a guess as to some of the plot changes: Spoiler During the big reveal, Filcher says they actually reunited Ethan with his family during their second attempt at Integration, and it resulted in disaster. It certainly seems like they are weaving that element into this season. I don't think we are watching his 2nd attempt, though. The fact Beverly died pretty much the exact way she did in the book says this is probably the 3rd attempt. Absolutely no idea why they killed Pope that way and that quickly, though. Pretty obvious at this point with all the changes we are watching a GoT situation where the ending will probably be the same, but how we get there very different.
Wow. That ep was awesome. I'm hooked and all in now. Sucks it took so long to get here. Almost gave up a few times. That made me want to read the books. Nothing until this point did
I read the books. Like others have said, they are a fun, quick read. Like most (maybe all) translations, I think the books are better. Some of the casting choices still make me scratch my head, but I can understand some of the plot changes if they really want to fit all three books into these 10 episodes.
Jesus. I've never seen a TV show just flat out narrate what's going on like they had Hope Davis do in this episode.
This is meaningless, but did anyone else notice that the Wayward Pines Academy logo looks a lot like Dharma Initiative logos?
They fucked up the books. They didn't need to change the original story. They did shit that fucks up the "believability" of the story. Minor shit too that has a big impact on the story.
Im still liking it right now. And thats why I didn't want to read the books during the show. So I didn't get pissed off at it.
What they've changed is plot points that explain motivation. Both for why certain individuals are there and why they act react the way they do.
It pissed you off so much to know. Ethan goes from being in line with the Dr to calling him a control freak after seeing something he already was aware of? The fuck is that. The natural progression of Ethan and everyone else has been screwed up by the show.
