It also isn’t talked about enough that if trump were arrested his idiot followers would attempt to burn the entire country down
Unless I’m missing something, they are doing that now. You got book burnings, and people in the back of UHaul trucks showing up to beat the fuck out of people in a park celebrating gay pride. The SCOTUS has dropped any pretense of coherent application of the law.
everything is shitty when you stop for more than three seconds to think about it unless you are an accelerationist eeyoring over every fucking thing isn't contributing to the discussion
It is scary. And I’m not an accelerationist. But the Republican Party is clearly geared up to achieve power and never risk relinquishing it through our current democratic process. There’s no reasoning with these people.
I do think this is probably the best chance of him actually getting charged and indicted on something serious. I still doubt it happens though.
I know you're not, I just hate the "We can't do anything bc they'll throw a fit" argument. Fuck em. The alternative of just giving them the country is way worse.
Arresting Trump would absolutely cause a shit storm and a lot of violence, that shouldn't factor into your equation.
it's 50% people regurgitating the contents of the hearing and posting reactions and 50% people saying "lol nothing will happen, you idiot, you fucking moron" Half of that is at least of some benefit to people not watching tv at 2:00, the other half is just fucking exhausting
the problem is that we already have unless someone actually does something about the Supreme Court, which doesn’t seem likely at this point but yes i hope he gets arrested and/or *redacted* very soon. don’t think that just because I’m pessimistic about the situation that i don’t want the absolute worst to happen to that carrot looking bitch
The fact that his followers are capable of wreaking substantive havoc is significant factor 1A complicating any prosecution. 1B is the fact that an entire political caucus is totally complicit in his treason and criminality.
The republicans who have testified clearly don’t hate the idea of one party minority rule. They just find Trump personally loathsome, and didn’t believe his plan would be successful without the military behind them. So they hedged, and took half measures.
I think it would be an absolute win if Trump is arrested and several thousand of the hardest hardcore chuds will rise up like the South with their pew pews and get absolutely slaughtered by the military.
I don't even think they'd go that far. At most, I think, you could say they were sufficiently scared by the beast they unleashed on January 6 that they felt it prudent to take measures to protect themselves personally from being responsible. The driver who refused to take him to the Capitol is the only guy who showed the slightest bit of contemporaneous courage.
Do you think there is enough to charge trump with a crime to the extent that not doing so creates a future (worse) crisis?
I think their planned coup didn’t work because Trump is incompetent. And the election wasn’t close enough for anyone but whack jobs to really go all in on it. And yet after January 6th, Trump is the leader of the Republican Party. Trump will light DeSantis on fire the minute DeSantis achieves more attention. The Democratic Party is a coalition of different groups, all competing to go first in the queue. The Republicans are bigoted power mad group of assholes waiting for a opening. You can’t organize gaping assholes for long.
Getting a little chippy in here. Remember we all hate this guy and, together, wish him the shittiest of AMC shows
I still don’t understand the concern about DeSantis. He’s not trump, he has no charisma. People like that don’t win
Part of Alyssa Farah's questioning and testimony to the January 6th committee was about the Lafayette Park incident where Trump allegedly had police clear protestors from around St. John's Church so he could have a photo op. Things she and others testified to about that incident are things Tony Ornato has also disputed as being untrue. While people are focusing are Ornato disputing Hutchinson's testimony, they should note this is not the first time he has tried to dispute witness testimony while still being unwilling to testify himself.
And secret service should've let Trump drive. Guy can barely drive a golf cart, letting him drive a car would've been interesting.
Donnie pisshands throwing his personal burger at the wall has absolutely been killing me since yesterday
Its been in the conservative playbook for 50 years, them overturning it has nothing to do with the J6 committee imo
Yeah I don't necessarily subscribe to the idea that the timing was purposeful but I get the sentiment.
I’d argue the opposite. We’ve been the ones saying he has no charisma and everyone else says “he’s a competent trump” to which we say he’s not competent at all.
it is some weird need for them to feel like their state is nationally relevant/important so they hype him up as some legit threat to be president.
Credco is the name of a big national credit report product line that's widely used in the mortgage industry so you're not far off.
