M. Gustav and Royal Tenenbaum are the two best characters and therefore their films are the two best overall
"I'll say good night to you now children." "Let's shag ass." "Sorry about your mother. She was a terribly attractive woman."
Rushmore is just a fucking masterpiece. But it took me a couple of viewings to get there. So people should never watch a WA movie once and pour concrete around their reaction. Think I need a WA marathon. Have not seen FMF and only watched Life Aquatic once.
I was knifed in a bazaar in Calcutta. He carried me to the hospital on his back Who stabbed who? He did.
I found the prepubescent love story to be more awkward than endearing. Just one man's opinion. Sucked was the wrong word but I don't think it's as funny as Wes' other works.
Prepubescent love is supposed to be awkward. You're referring to Bruce Willis and Frances McDormand, right?
Fair enough. I don't think it was intended to be as comedic as most of his works. Seems like it was a love story first, a coming of age story second, and a comedy third. And I mean love in an expansive sense, not entirely romantic. The father son, widower, lost love, ending of the kid living with Bruce Willis was a nice way to tie it all back together. Good feels.
I love all his movies for different reasons I love the Murray/Schwartzman relationship in Rushmore. I love both the kids in Moonrise Kingdom. I love the style and personality of Fantastic Mr. Fox. But I can't get enough of Fiennes in Grand Budapest Hotel. He's hilarious in every scene. He makes it my favorite Was Anderson movie.
Haven't seen a lot of them, but GB was one of my favorite movies of all time and has me going back to watch the rest of Anderson's films.
Royal was my first one as well. Grand Budapest was the first one I actually went to the movies to watch. I love it but Royal started it for me. I have never been disappointed by any of them. Netflix has Aquatic and Moonrise.
Yeah, okay, pal. Magnolia is the steamiest pile of shit ever so your opinion is just wrong. Boogie Nights and Punch Drunk Love were good though.
The only thing this thread is missing now is for Soulfly to come in and tell us to watch The Passion of Joan of Arc
Haven't seen moonrise or gbh yet, I'll get too them. But I love life aquatic. It was the movie that really opened me up to his work.
M. Gustave: [Of Mme. Celine] She was dynamite in the sack, by the way. Zero: ...She was 84, Monsieur Gustave. M. Gustave: Mmm, I've had older. When you're young, it's all filet steak, but as the years go by, you have to move on to the cheap cuts. Which is fine with me, because I like those. More flavorful, or so they say.
I still need to see GBH. As a big fan of Life Aquatic, I've heard too many good things about GBH that I feel negligent in not seeing it already.
also to piggy back on the only seeing a WA movie once discussion, I wasn't much of a fan of Grand Budapest on the first watch, absolutely loved it after the second
Rushmore Royal Tenenbaums The Grand Budapest Hotel The Life Aquatic The Darjeeling Limited Moonrise Kingdom Bottle Rocket Fantastic Mr. Fox
Grand Budapest Hotel Rushmore Moonrise Kingdom Fantastic Mr. Fox The Royal Tenenbaums The Life Aquatic The Darjeeling Limited Bottle Rocket
The only thing that drags down Bottle Rocket a little is how fucking terrible an actor the guy playing Bob is. But, it is still phenomenal.
Just finished watching it again. Better than I remember, but still worse than all of his films sans Darjeeling
No it's not. It's an amazing performance by two actors surrounded by a shit plot and supporting cast.
God Tier: Royal Tenenbaums Rushmore Great: Bottle Rocket Moonrise Kingdom Grand Budapest Hotel Life Aquatic Not Great: Darjeeling Limited Boycotted: Fantastic Mr. Fox
I really liked Bottle Rocket, Grand Budapest, Moonrise, and Darjeeling. I know it's not as popular but Darjeeling is my favorite.
