The list of actors on the “fuck it let’s just list everyone” cut cracked me up. Like ten actors who could easily have leading roles in other major films.
There’s been a lot of dogging Wes on twitter these past two days and it’s pathetic. His distinctive style is essentially its own genre, he’s got A-listers lining up to participate, and a lot of people love his work. The criticisms that he needs to evolve strike me as hollow and self-serving.
Who is saying this? People who don't know what they're talking about? I've seen nothing but the opposite. My only complaint is that I don't care for animated movies. Wes Anderson is truly a master, I don't see anyone else saying otherwise.
Ive seen a handful of articles but haven’t read them all bc I refuse to give them clicks. One that I did read compared him to Woody Allen.
GGCD I get not caring for the animation, although I personally love Mr. Fox and thought Isle of Dogs was good too. If anything, I respect the technique of using stop-motion in the age of CGI.
Just not my cup of tea. Not saying others can't enjoy it. I love WA and selfishly want him to stick to live action.
The opportunity to watch the Timothée Chalamet-starring, Wes Anderson-directed movie The French Dispatch seems to finally be in sight. And we’ve got the Cannes Film Festival to thank for that. The prestigious movie event will be going ahead IRL this year, and the festival’s artistic direct Thierry Fremaux has announced the movie will be on its official line-up. With a July film festival premiere, we expect it’s likely that the highly-anticipated movie will be in cinemas this summer. https://i-d.vice.com/en_us/article/qj84ad/the-french-dispatch-cannes-film-festival-release-date
It’s pretty cool how he gets to just say hey that person is a really great actor and then boom they’re in his movie.
Tops for me. One of the most rewatchable movies ever, not just among Wes' movies. Fiennes destroys me everytime he curses, but the biggest laugh for me is always Adrien Brody in this scene The line delivery...I just can't. It's the best.
allegedly Hackman almost said no to Royal Tenenbaums because he was mad that Wes wrote that part for him
Hackman was King Shit of Douche Mountain throughout that whole production (and many others, apparently).
yeah, I'm not the biggest Royal Tannenbaums fan, but Hackman played the emotionally detached dad perfectly. Apparently he resented that the part was written with him in mind (since he was, in reality, an emotionally attached father to his kids).
Word...1st off he doesn't like it when people he doesn't know write parts specifically for him. Kind of a "you presume to know me" thing. Combine that with the actual subject material and boom! goes the dynamite
my exact words As soon as the one reviewer said it was "more grand budapest than tennanbaums" my heart grew three sizes.
Do people not like The Royal Tenenbaums or something? For my money it's one of the best comedies of the 2000s.
Very good film, but I favor the more outlandish and whimsical movies Wes makes (though I love Rushmore). Grand Budapest and Moonrise Kingdom in particular are favorites. As weird (in a good way) as Royal Tenenbaums could be, compared to non-Wes Anderson movies, in terms of his own films, it's on the lower end of the wild scale.
