I have tickets to see at the Alamo tomorrow IMBD says release date is 10/22/21 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8847712/
c’est magnifique moins magnifique: the guy with the leather jacket and ponytail (think tim robbins in high fidelity) two seats down that felt the need to namecheck a bunch of the bigger name actors in small roles to his lady friend
Was fun. Solidly mid-pack for his films, imo. More of a series of loosely tied together shorts. I told my wife this as a joke and only in hindsight do I realize I’m pretty sure I’m right: Spoiler Lea Seydoux’s bush has more scenes than Elizabeth Moss does
Agree with this, I liked it, it's somewhere in the middle of Wes' movies for me. I liked some portions more than others. Looking forward to re-watching at some point next year because I feel like there's lots of little things to pick up on a second viewing.
I watched The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I have now watched every Wes Anderson movie. I feel like I unlocked some sort of white person achievement
Still my favorite Wes Anderson film. Second would probably be Grand Budapest or Royal Tenenbaums. Might try to illegal stream French Dispatch tonight.
Liked it Kinda reminded me of Buster Scruggs with how there were multiple unrelated stories within a movie His movies are so visually appealing that my dumb brain has a hard time paying attention to the narrator at certain points
It was great. Want to see again, but definitely in my top group of WA movies I think. Loved the story about the painter in the insane prison
Exactly what I was thinking while watching. Just the gravitas of that type of voice lends itself really well to Wes' stuff
Really really enjoyed it, particularly Jeffrey Wright's segment as the James Baldwin analog. Isle Of Dogs was a bit of a miss for me (relative to his other work), so this was much more up my alley.
Loved French Dispatch. Kinda takes what we know as Wes Anderson’s style to a whole other level. It’s so dense. Hard to sift through everything you are seeing. It’s like an Anderson onslaught all movie. also lots of fully naked Lea Seydeux, soooo…
I randomly found out yesterday and that Tom Hanks and Margot Robbie are in Wes’ next movie, very interested to see how he uses them if they end up being main cast members.
Just watched dispatch finally. I can't imagine having the singular vision required to produce something like that. I know there's an army and whatever, but the level of detail and the intentionality just blows my mind. The magazine covers during the credits were a delight.
I rewatched “The Life Aquatic” a couple days ago while I was donating platelets. Wilson’s accent going in and out was notably bad, but I enjoyed the story again. Dafoe crushed (as usual) and Blanchett was an angel.
Dafoe is my favorite part of Life Aquatic. That's hardly a surprise or an unpopular opinion but there it is. He's so perfect.
I liked it but felt it dropped badly after the great start from The Concrete Masterpiece (Lea Seydoux, merci...) - I didn't like Manifesto at all and felt it contributed nothing. And the final story was entertaining but descended into farce by the end. I'd agree with those guys that think 'middle of the pack'.
I originally liked the first story the best as well. But after some time and giving it more thought, I liked the 3rd the best. It went to a few unexpected places and Jeffrey Wright was amazing. The cut to animation was hilarious. 2nd was definitely the weakest but McDormand gave a strong performance as always.
