"There's a strike at the morgue" feels like a perfect last punchline. Loved the movie. Not as much as Grand Budapest but that's in my top 10 for all movies. This is maybe my second or third favorite WA movie, neck and neck with Moonrise Kingdom.
Finally saw French Dispatch. Loved it. Put it at #4 behind Budapest, Rushmore, and Tenenbaums. Neck and neck with Bottle Rocket
Was kind of let down by The French Dispatch, definitely towards the bottom for me. Was way too fast. But the run of Fantastic Mr. Fox -- Moonrise Kingdom -- Grand Budabest -- Isle of Dogs was amazing. Really high expectations for this one.
and Jason Schwartzman, Ed Norton, Leiv Schreiber, Maya Hawke, Matt Dillon & Jeff Goldblum as well the entire list is borderline nutty
No one likes Wes Anderson (much like like sushi in that) you have to pretend to like it or get called an uncultured swine.
French Dispatch was still well made just not as fun or impactful as his films usually are. Granted I only saw it once and it’s been a while.
Wes has a style that he can apply to a wide variety of genres. If you can sit back and roll with it, there's a lot to love, but if his blend of film (the medium), stage play (the framing), and novel (the narration and pacing) puts you off then you'll probably never love his work. I think he's marvelous.
