I just prefer the more surreal/stylish films. Bottle Rocket has some great moments, but it just doesn't hit me the same as his movies starting with Rushmore.
Henry Sugar was good. My son is a freshman in HS and has done a couple of theatre shows. Him and classmates like the set design style that it’s shot, as if a stage performance.
recently rewatched Asteroid City, enjoyed it a lot more. Not that I didn't like it the first time around. Just enjoyed it more upon rewatch
Asteroid City is wonderful. Return to the song for the alien written by the kid and the Jeffrey Wright monologue a decent amount
Same, though Astroid City more than French Dispatch. The latter was a bit more uneven. Parts I adored, but other parts were just okay. Grand Budapest is still his masterpiece.
originally liked French Dispatch a lot more than Ast. City but I think the gap has been closed significantly
Jeffrey Wright and Wes Anderson is a perfect marriage. His voice and the way he handles dialogue matches up exactly with how Wes writes
Rushmore is such a comfort food movie, but GBH is the perfect film. Script, acting, visual style, pacing. It's unbelievable
Finally saw Phoenician Scheme. I giggled throughout and occasionally burst out laughing. Delightful performances. Best since Grand Budapest.
Updated list since seeing PS: 1) Grand Budapest (his masterpiece, finally unseated Rushmore for me) 2) Rushmore 3) Tenenbaums 4) Fox 5) French Dispatch 6) Bottle Rocket 7) Moonrise Kingdom 8) Henry Sugar shorts 9) Phoenician Scheme 10) Asteroid City 11) Isle of Dogs 12) Life Aquatic 13) Darjeeling
Probably people who don’t really like Wes Anderson movies, it has a very different feel than everything else imo.
Life Aquatic is my favorite Wes Anderson movie, and to Drew's credit, he keeps receipts. But his disagreement is all the validation I need
Bottle Rocket holds a special place in my heart because I saw it in the theater my freshman year of college. It was the first real indie film I saw in a theater (Pulp Fiction doesn’t really count) and it was great and now I live in DFW where it of course it is held in high regard
I love Life Aquatic but my favorite Anderson/Murrary team up is RT. To this day all of the Dudley bits still crack me up. “Can he tell time” “Oh lord no”
