I just went on the silliest little 10 minute commuter bike ride. Flat. Absolutely no effort, promise. When I got off the bike I was positively pouring with sweat.
my wife is on a girls weekend over near Lake Waldo and they had to stop mountain biking because one girl got a heat migraine and another threw up pretty neat
It’s also very humid now. I have no ac and I’m running multiple fans I think it’s warmer inside than outside right now.
My carbon footprint increased enough today with AC usage it makes me want to get solar panels on the roof. Not like this is going to get better.
I mean that Simpsons meme that's been making the rounds is amusing and whatever, but living through this as someone who does believe in climate change it's damn near impossible to come away thinking that we're not experiencing something that is a feature of our new normal.
Regardless of weather, you should not be looking forward to that; the sprawl of that place is grotesque.
Oh shit. Whereabouts? I’m about to start part-time living in Spokane. edit: I see this has already been addressed.
A few years back we went through one of these bullshit hell on earth heatwaves in Arkansas where it was 110+ for like 3-4 days in a row, and with our humidity I would sweat walking around the house. Absolutely miserable and I’m sorry you softies have to go through this.
I feel for you cats without AC. When I moved into my current place it had no AC. It’s near the beach and didn’t get too hot. About 4 years ago I had to go get some. It sucks stay hydrated.
I can't believe that Portland is going to hit 115 again today, feel for you guys. High of 96 here in Eugene but the heat is breaking and low of 60 tonight is going to feel amazing. A few of my employees don't have AC and their houses were 95 degrees, one of them slept outside in their yard.
Legit grew up in Nebraska and you get some fucking putrid temps and the humidity. But the giant trees mean their is almost no air movement. It’s literally the grossest fucking thing I’ve ever felt. The giant tinderbox surrounding the area has everybody on pins & needles. Which won’t stop until the fall rains come. The timber, salmon population, agriculture ... if somebody brings up climate change snarky today kick them in the nuts.
what's the humidity like? I was ok with low 100s in Austin b/c little humidity, but upper 90s in Alabama kills me.
it’s not what I grew up with in Nebraska, but it’s not a dry heat either (the southwest) Also, as mentioned above, in a place like Portland you are sourrounded by 100-200 foot trees and sit between 2 mountain ranges. Often we don’t feel much of a breeze. It’s just stale air right now.
Had to walk to my vehicle, a breeze finally kind of is blowing. It’a not doing much but it’s air-movement at least.
Isn't Oregon one the states that doesn't allow self serve? if so good chance some people have never pumped gas
us and New Jersey. There will be times I’m in Washington getting gas and I’ll sit and wait in my car forgetting that it is self-serve.
I have a card lock card and a use Pacific Pride locations, so its self serve. When I do have to use a traditional gas stations I am astounded at how long it takes. Bugs the shit outta me.
I attended a conference in Portland about 10 years ago. Temps were high 90s. Hotel didn’t have A/C. It was miserable. 115F is hard to fathom tbh. Hot story…
A sawdust pile spontaneously combusted at a local mill yesterday and caught a log yard on fire. Its still burning.
Yeah, AC was never a thing you needed here. Anyone telling you differently either grow up here or is lying. The climate is different now.
