Yea, I am still wet shaving. Still getting use to it as well. Have been at it for probably 2.5 months. Thinking about buying a Merkur Futur soon
Checking my statement this morning, saw an $80 charge from AoS. Asked wife. Said it was for my birthday and to shut up. Now I'm curious.
Shavemac knots are the shit. Glad they replaced it, it's rare that they go bad but it happens to the best of them.
Got half of the order today I dont know if ill be able to wait until Monday to try it out. Shit I want to go home and try it out now. It's stupid how much I look forward to shaving now. Just make sure you set aside plenty of time. I've been doing it for about a month and I timed it last night and I'm at 12m 44 s.
Really had a bad shave this morning. I need to pay more attention to my blade angle and pressure. My neck is irritated and stinging I mean shit, I have shaving this way for a few months and have had some great shaves. No excuse for this.
Holy shit: http://ceramics.org/ceramictechtoda...iends-maybe-–-when-they-coat-a-carbide-blade/ Saw that on Sharpologist this morning. That blade is amazingly sharp.
Got my second bottle of AoS ocean kelp aftershave. Stuff is amazing. Skin has never looked and felt so good. FYI I have tried probably 20 different kinds over the 3 years I have been at this and this took over TH 1805 as my new favorite.
i might have to take the plunge on some TH Trafalgar seeing as how it will probably last me well over a year
Did my first wet shave this evening. Turned out pretty damn well. Didn't cut myself. Closest shave I have ever had. A little bit of razor burn at the bottom of my neck, but considerably less than I got with my old Gillette razors. Feels really good.
If you want a warm lather run hot water around and in the bowl, drain, then fill the sink as usual. Start out with a dryer brush than usual (give it a few good shakes): add water a few drops at a time every 30 seconds or so until you get the consistancy you're looking for.
I started with a speick shave stick The Duke gave me so I face lathered. I ended up just face lathering with my 1805 and castle Forbes because I knew how to do it. Plus I never really had a good bowl to do it in. I officially just got the best shave I've ever had. Went wtg, xtg, then atg under my chin and neck. I think my shaving technique has just improved a lot.
initial impressions of mike's natural is that it's the best thing I've used in my limited time. having a hard time getting mystic waters going
All of them were in shitty condition. I think the most I paid for one was $10 and it still needed help. I use a cleaner to get soap residue off and then I spend an hour or two using Flitz polish and an old t shirt. I can post a before and after if I didn't delete the pictures. If you find one that looks bad, as long as it's not bent and the doors aren't lazy you can get it looking good in no time.
Yea would be interested to see and learn more. How did you polish and scrub inside the door and stuff?
I'm mobile but I did find some pictures. I'll post a tutorial and some pictures when I get home. Dog had surgery today so it may be later on though.
These are not good pictures. I had to fight the flash and I don't have a light box. Gillette Slim Spoiler Before Wanted to stop here but didn't Finished here Added blue paint because this was a gift for someone who would appreciate the blue more than keeping it original (and all the black was gone so I had to paint it) See the brassing on the knob. Tarnish can get polished away, but brassing means there is no coating left and you can't reverse that unless you get it redipped SuperSpeed Spoiler Before I didn't think this green stuff would come off. The scrubbing bubbles did nothing but the Flitz tore right through it. After Process: Soak in sink with hot water and dish washing detergent. I have a sonicator and it doesn't add a lot of benefit. Scrub with a nylon brush or toothbrush. Make sure it's a firm toothbrush and not a soft or medium. Drain water and coat with scrubbing bubbles foam Let sit for 10 minutes Don't rinse, brush them again with scrubbing bubbles still coating it. Repeat that two or three times until it's clean. It won't be gleaming at this point, but the white gunk and residue should be gone. Now the Flitz. I use nitrile gloves and smear some on a rag and rub. I do this for about a 15 count. Then I find a clean spot, more Flitz, rub some more. I listen to music or watch a movie while I do this. Once you get in the groove you can zone out. That will take care of the handle and all the flat areas like the doors. All you have left at this point is hard to reach places. I cut a q-tip or a toothpick in half. Don't use the sharp end, us the blunt end and wrap a layer of t-shirt around it. Dip it in the polish and rub just the same. This part is more tedious but if you skip it things won't look good. Don't let Flitz sit too long or it can eat through thin surfaces. It's not a race, but I wouldn't soak overnight. DO NOT use anything other than hot water on gold razors. They don't clean up well and the coating isn't very durable compared to old silver Gillettes. I do one final soak with scrubbing bubbles and clean with a brush. The final step is I wipe it down with alcohol to remove prints. I use Testors model paint on numbered dials, but it's a pain in the ass to get it looking good. I only do it if I'm selling it or if it's someone who cares about painted numbers. Scrubbing Bubbles and Flitz will both destroy the original black paint so be careful if you are trying to preserve a good specimen. On ones with good numbers, they usually aren't candidates for this kind of cleaning anyway. I've found faster ways but they stink, are more expensive, and/or aren't as thorough. This is a good balance of cost effective and safe for all surfaces.
Use Dawn/Palmolive to deep clean the funk. Then pick your best smelling soap or cream, lather it and leave it for a few hours. I use 1805 cream to get mine broken in and smelling better. The funk will linger even after that, just not wet dog in a hot van bad.
Where's the best place to find vintage razors besides eBay? Was hoping to snag a gillette SS for like 10 bucks.
