Not sure my response would have been the same - probably more like "fine, then die on the road, you fucking spawn of Satan!"
Just pulled a ringneck snake from my pool. Little guy, about 14 inches. Much to my wife's chagrin, I released him out into the grass. I know who to protect. Spoiler Reference pic only. Not my picture, not my snake
Ringnecks mildly poisonous I believe I read Find quite a few around yard, always like earth worm size
Had no idea they were mildly venomous. That’s actually kinda cool, considering how small and docile they are
I’d spend a good amount of money to be able to witness a fully grown king cobra hunt and eat a large python in the wild. That’s the stuff dreams are made of.
They’re one of those species that are very common, but due to their nature aren’t seen a ton. Could also be a natural boom cycle if everything went right for last years crop of babies.
Just found another one (pic) later Last year must have been a big year for snake fucking Last one was a fisty one, bit me three times
Off-topic, but I like to share my biological work itt, since everyone here seems to have an interest. I did some electrofishing below the fall line (I’m in the piedmont, this was in the coastal plain) with really good results. Redfin pickerel Redbreast sunfish Warmouth Redeye bass Pirate perch Dollar sunfish
Had never heard of electrofishing until this post. After reading up on it, science is fucking awesome.
I’d say we release over 80% of our specimens with no apparent effect. Certain species such as darters, certain minnows/shiners, and suckers don’t take it as well. We typically shock with 200-250 volts, and it feels like a fairly strong invisible fence type collar when you inevitably do it to yourself.
Owsley are you hearing anything about snakeheads in Mississippi? I figure the flooding in AR will have dispersed them into the basin.
I don’t do any direct work in the area, so I honestly don’t know. Flooding certainly aids in dispersion, though. DNA testing has been a major breakthrough in determining presence/absence of species in waterways, and it would be pretty easy to figure out if they were there or not using them.
Came across this beauty while hiking last weekend. The kids walked right by it, but my wife spotted it. and screamed.
Bald-faced hornet nest I came upon today - easily the size of a pumpkin. Going to check on it periodically and once it’s vacant put it in my office. Got stung on the finger taking this pic smh.
OT, but didn’t know if there are any ornithologists in the thread. Saw a pretty dope hawk* in my backyard yesterday. *(hock) **(No idea what kind)
