I was under the impression that just because you have Targaryen blood doesn't mean fire can't harm you. Dany didn't get burned because she used blood magic, right?
He clearly favors Lyanna in terms of looks, which is why he passes as a Stark. Viserys was a Targ but his head didn't hold up too well when covered in molten gold.
I'm at the point where I'm thinking Ned Stark had sex with the common whore because his wife is an ugly-nagging bitch. I hope we get a chapter revealing this truth. I also want Melisandre so much and it's crazy that Jon Snow could turn her down- most unbelievable thing in the story so far. I would have make fire with her before any other cast member
Last weeks episode confirmed R+L=J Let's look at lyanna for first time in 5 seasons and let's talk about rheagar being awesome and have stannis be all :skepticalhippo: Jon is a bastard
Maybe he did but not for that reason. He basically met her, married her, consummated the marriage then left immediately for war and came back with Jon
Even if Jon isn't a legitimate son of Rhaegar, if he gets legitimized and then his heritage comes out he would still have a pretty strong claim.
Targs aren't immune to heat. What happened to Dany when the dragons were hatched was a special circumstance. Her brother, while a cunt of the highest magnitude, was still a true Targ and burned to death. I'm pretty sure GRRM confirmed somewhere being a Targ doesn't make you immune to heat. Also, Jon IS the Song of Ice and Fire. Not to get all metaphorical, but he is the union of both and therefore they might cancel out on another. Dany is Rhaegar's sister. Jon is his son. As long as Rhaegar and Lyanna were married before she gave birth, then Jon holds the Targ claim to the throne.
What I was saying is that even if they weren't married, and he gets legitimized by someone, who's to say if he's being legitimized as a Stark or Targ. He's no longer baseborn and would be the heir if his parentage later came out.
Oh, I agree completely. I just think it's going to be revealed Lyanna and Rhaegar were married before the birth, and he doesn't need anyone to legitimize him. Granted, while Targs are allowed to marry family members, I am not sure how divorce or carrying multiple wives works. If Rhaegar wasn't able to renounce his vows before marrying Lyanna, then he obviously may need someone to legitimize him.
Back in the day Targs had more than one wife I believe. The original Aegon did IIRC. Not sure if the laws were changed since then or not.
What do you guys think about the notion that The Others aren't just mindless evil ice zombies but have a history, culture, etc of their own? Some people think the First Men and the Others came to a truce at some point, with the Others living North and people living South, putting the Wall between them. Now they're pissed the Wildings are in their territory so they're driving them out. Would explain why they didn't just kill them all and turn them into white walkers like they would if they were evil and wanted to destroy the world. Also fits into GRRM's "no good vs evil, all characters are shades of gray" philosophy. Along with this, with the Starks being the descendents of the First Men, their words could be interpreted as "Don't fuck with us or our ice zombie allies up north won't be too happy." Lot of people have been fucking with Starks lately, going back to the Mad King killing the Lord of Winterfell and his heir. The timing coincides pretty nicely with about when Mance would have had to start unifying the wildling tribes to escape the south-bound Others.
Yeah I'm fully on board with this theory. We only picture the Others as looking evil because that's how they look on the show, but they aren't depictied as that in the books according to Martin. The graphic novel has them looking like ice elves in armour
Anyone believe all the dragons return? Obviously we have the fire dragons now, and the ice dragon has been mentioned before, but there's also been mention of a stone dragon and sea dragon. Would be awesome if they all returned.
An ice dragon can kill 7 fire dragons. Everyone is going to go crazy when someone blows the horn of winter and the wall comes down, only to see the biggest dragon in the world emerge from the walls foundation.
In 1980 Martin released a short story for children about the Ice Dragon. They are supposed to be much larger than fire dragons. Here are some quotes from ASOIAF that hint at it. "The wind was gusting, cold as the breath of the ice dragon in the tales Old Nan had told when Jon was a boy.[3]" "The road beneath the Wall was as dark and cold as the belly of an ice dragon and as twisty as a serpent. [4]" "The wind was blowing from the east along the Wall, cold as the breath of the ice dragon in the tales Old Nan used to tell.[5]"
A giant ice dragon emerging from a crumbling wall would be fucking amazing. I can only imagine the "Oh shit" look from Dany if she were there to witness it with her now relatively small dragons.
I think it's going to be an army of really cold reawakened Komoto dragons. They'll bite all the wildlings then track them for a few days while they wait for the infection to set in. Should be an exciting episode.
So we have Dany's 3 dragons, the ice dragon, the stone dragon, the sea dragon, and Podrick's pants dragon. Am I forgetting any?
Found a decent video breakdown of the various ASOIAF theories, this dude does a good job laying everything out. There are 5 parts on his channel. His voice annoys me after a bit but he is thorough with his history.
Who would legitimize Jon? Anyone with that power would be legitimizing someone with a better claim to the throne than their own. Unless it's within the power of... HIGH SEPTON HOWLAND REED.
Maybe Elia was murdered before Rheagar, and Rheagar secretly married Lyanna before she died. Apologies if I'm screwing this up badly. I'm not as deep into the mythology as many bookfags, but I still like to play the theory game too. Do not have your jimmies rustled plz.
i don't think howland is the high septon. but we will need him to verify the fact that jon is rheagar's kid eventually
Or they legitimize Jon thinking he's a Stark, then his true parentage comes out but he's already recognized as legitimate.
eh I'm not sure, but some of the older Targs did have multiple wives? http://www.angelfire.com/ma4/mlarchives/faq/timeline.html 8) Lord Tyrell and most (all?) of the Reach remains loyal to Targaryen, as does Dorne, though Aerys suspects them and reminds them that he has Elia as hostage [43],[45]. Lannisters and Tullys are still uncommitted. 9) Things start to get hot for the Robels in the South. Robert attempts to take Ashford Castle as a bulwark against Highgarden but is defeated when the siege is relieved by Randyll Tarly and Mace Tyrell[37]. Robert moves North (with his army?), leaving SE to Stannis. Loyalist forces under Mace Tyrell and Paxter Redwyne besiege SE [20], [21]. (Events at Ashford speculative, see note B) 10) Jon Arryn agrees to marry Lysa Tully in return for Tully support in the Robellion [33],[55]. (Tully marriage timing speculative, see note C) 11) Battle of the Bells. While fleeing North to rejoin Eddard and Jon, Robert is trapped in Stoney Sept by Aerys' Hand, Lord Connington. Eddard and the allied Tullys attack Stoney Sept. Robert emerges from hiding to join battle. Denys Arryn killed in battle [33]. Robels win a great victory. They then return North (speculative, see note D).[39],[43] 12) Eddard marries Catelyn and Jon Arryn marries Lysa at the same time. Eddard and Jon return to war [25],[33]. (Tully marriage timing speculative, see note C) 13) Rhaegar returns to KL from the South and starts mustering an army. Barristan Selmy and Jon Darry rally Lord Connington's troops at Stoney Sept. At Aerys' command Lewyn Martell takes command of 10,000 Dornishmen marching up Kingsway.[43] 14) North of the Trident are Starks, Arryns, Tullys and maybe Baratheons. South of the Trident are Rhaegar's newly mustered army, Lewyn Martell's Dornishmen and the troops Jon Darry rallied at Stoney Sept, 40,000 in all including 4,000 knights [13]. Tyrells are still maintaining siege of SE. After close to a year of siege, Davos brings some fish and onions [20],[21],[24],[35]. 15) Battle of the Trident. The Robels defeat the loyalists in the key battle of the Robellion. Rhaegar is killed [3]. Robert is wounded. Remnants of Targaryen army flee South to KL. Eddard pursues [7],[46]. 16) At Aerys' command, Ser Willem Darry takes the Queen and Viserys to DS.[2],[14] 17) Lannisters get to KL before Eddard [46]. Aerys lets them into the city and they betray him [7]. Jaime slays the King after he orders his Hand, Lord Rossart of the pyromancers, to incinerate the city [44]. Jaime also kills Rossart [36],[47]. Amory Lorch and Gregor Clegane kill Elia of Dorne, Princess Rhaenys and Prince Aegon [10],[22],[52]. Eddard arrives at KL. 18) Robert arrives at KL sometime later. Robert and Eddard fall out over killing of Rhaegar's children. Eddard goes South to fight last battles alone.[6]
You laugh, but theres definitely something up there. Not ready to declare Rhaegar alive, but theres something.
Probably been mentioned before, but I think Arya dies in the end. My thought is that she'll accomplish some, or all, of her list but will eventually be taken out by a faceless man (likely Jaquen) because she is using her training for personal gain and is not truly "no one" and serving their God as she was trained.
was doing some reading on some theories, and I just cannot think of a more chilling, badass sequence (for me personally) than this one:
