US food additives banned in Europe: Expert says what Americans eat is "almost certainly" making them sick
Potassium bromate is a suspected carcinogen that's banned for human consumption in Europe, China, and India — but not in the United States despite substantial evidence that it's toxic to humans and may even cause tumors. As is so often the case in America, people's lives are being put at risk and perhaps even sacrificed to fatten the wallets of companies who donate unfathomable sums of money to politicians to look the other way.

The benefits of living here far outweigh the cataclysmic toxic train derailments and exploding factories. Once we get out of derailment/explosion season in February, the spring is quite nice.

There is no redeeming quality about Ohio. Why do we live here? It’s cheap and easy lifestyle? With a bunch of chuds though. Your bubble is less chuddy but the state politics you still have to live with.

I don’t know if this is “out there” but I don’t believe there has ever been a spec of evidence for the existence of a soul. Just wishful thinking. Would be happy to be wrong here but…

The NBA suspended draymond to extend the finals another game or two but then it got out of hand. Fuck you kiki!

And, imo, you'll never find physical evidence of it because you're looking for it in the wrong way. That's like asking someone to show you the color of music, or asking "are you taller than that light is bright?"

I don't think you'll ever find evidence of spirit or a soul looking at it through the lens of a physical/rational/logical mind. By it's very nature, the spirit transcends the physical mind, it goes beyond the part of your brain that looks for logic and reason in everything. Your mind is the only thing supporting your ego, the belief that you are unique and separate from everything else (dualism). You can only dissolve the ego by going beyond the mind, meaning that if you look for spirit and soul by using the thing you're supposed to transcend, you'll always be disappointed. Only by looking beyond the mind, beyond the logical/rational part of your being, can you come in tune with the true "capital S" Self, or universal consciousness, or the "soul."

This is some out there shit and 95% of people reading this will probably roll their eyes, if they even take the time to read it. That's fine, it's a matter of faith. Some people don't believe this exists and I'm not trying to convince them otherwise, I'm just sharing what I've studied.

I'm just of the opinion that you can't use terms like "physical evidence," or apply logic, to something that is meant to be beyond that thought process. It's like using grammar to try and solve complex math equations. Square peg round hole and such.

i believe that joining the military as an enlisted person is morally culpable because youre signing up to potentially invade countries and kill people defending their country. i realize some people have no other options and thats kinda like the "stealing bread" scenario, but people who go into it wanting to be rambo have issues

If you had firsthand knowledge that disproved a popular conspiracy theory, how do you think that would affect your belief in other, unrelated conspiracy theories? Does it make you shy away from believing in other theories or are you still able to evaluate them all on a case-by-case basis?

You do you but if you were to take away “faith” then there is no reason to believe. The only reason to believe is because you believe? Hence why I tend to label the soul as an out there belief or conspiracy theory. Belief being the cause of belief just doesn’t work for me.

And as a corollary, do other conspiracy theories being proven true cause you to question other things? I'm thinking Tuskegee, all the fucked up shit the CIA has done like MK Ultra, mass surveillance. I guess those aren't on the level of like coordinated assassinations, but still.

Not exactly, but I can see how you could glean that from my post. The ultimate goal is to experience union with the universe, or samadhi. That is the proof, that's the reason -- true bliss and freedom which only comes from transcendence and introspection into the self. It's described at length in ancient and modern texts; think psychedelic experiences without the use of drugs. That is the proof, that is the reason, that is the goal you're striving for. I don't want to use the word tangible because that goes against what I'm saying, but it's something real that occurs beyond your "little s" self. 'Real' may even be the wrong word, because do you believe that visions and thoughts in your mind are real? If you take ayahuasca, are your visions a result of the drug, or from your mind? Or both? Are those really happening?

I've had glimpses of it in short bursts. Not true enlightenment, but brief out-of-body experiences in deep meditation or during profound moments of introspection. Buddha and other "enlightened ones" speak of it as very real and the goal of, well, everything. That proof is real enough for me to believe in something greater than myself.

I think so. Showing that something has been done before certainly is evidence that it’s possible. I think of it in a matter of scale though. How many people would need to be in on the conspiracy, and in what information sharing era, shapes a lot of my thoughts. Though Tuskegee happened the number of people in on something like chemtrails, on a large scale, is prohibitive.

Sort of related but when people say they've seen ghosts I tend to think they're "real" in the sense that I believe someone saw an apparition. People in my family claim to have seen ghosts of other family members, I don't think they have any reason to lie about it and they were not suffering from dementia as far as I know. I don't really think they saw a 'real' thing in the sense it can be documented, but maybe some vision that's a reflection of grief or guilt their mind manifested to them.

I am a firm believer in the Multiverse (non-Marvel). The best part is that it eliminates the paradox problem of time travel.

I also believe 100% in the Great Flood theory. Essentially, I believe there was a flood event at some remote time in humanity's past (5,000-15,000 yrs ago) that was so devastating it was the catalyst for Flood stories among completely disparate cultures. As it turns out, there happened to be one, and it occurred in the Black Sea.

I wrote a paper on that for a paleoclimatology course. There is some doubt if that was the flood but it seems highly reasonable that the flood or floods were a result of ending ice age. Went swimming in the Bosporus a few years ago and the most impressed by being in history I have ever been in my life. Felt just incredible.

There are WAY too many myths of a flood to not be true. Also, lines up with the Younger Dryas impact/flood timeline…but Graham Hancock believes that, so I guess it makes me crazy to agree with him.

This American Life has an incredible and soul-crushingly depressing episode on this topic.

The school district that Michael Brown graduated from went through accidental desegregation (to date, the surest-fire way to actually deal with this massive ongoing issue) when Missouri stripped the district of accreditation. Unsurprisingly, racism quickly stepped in and “fixed” the unintended “consequence”.

There absolutely was a super massive flood...and to those people...it probably seemed like the entire world was flooded, so that's how it got recorded by them. Unfortunately, Christianity stole it for themselves and everything got out of hand.

As for the soul debate. There is no soul. There is consciousness...and I think that could conceivably carry on after death.

My personal one...aliens have definitely been here at some point. I don't think they had anything to do with our advancement as a species, hell they could have come any time in the Earth's 8 billion? years of existence, but I think there's definitely been another intelligent species on this planet. Even if it was just to visit.
