I ended up quitting around there. The female parts were written so terribly. Wish Sanderson could go back and rewrite those.
I want to familiarize myself more with this but there is less than zero % chance I am going to be reading all these books. Where is the best place to go to do that?
https://wot.fandom.com/wiki/A_beginning or there are youtube summaries that set it up. I think some were posted earlier in this thread.
If you haven’t read any, I think reading the first book and as many as three would be a great primer going into the show, since no way they can cover that much material in the first season. I see no reason to binge read the books if you haven’t read them, although it may make you want to.
I'm going to be really sad if they don't include Moiraine's speech about Manethren. It was the part that really hooked me in the books. Really well narrated video
Pretty sure the characters in order from L to R are Nynaeve, Mat, Lan, Moiraine, Egwene, Perrin, Rand.
That was my thought as well going on no prior knowledge, just who I thought each one looked most likely to be relative to the others.
White tower and Tar Valon confirmed for season 1 it seems. Definitely going to be a little timeline shifting from book 1
My timeline is all fucked up. When did that happen in the books? I assume it’s when the girls were taken there?
I never read the books but I'm definitely going to watch this series. just wondering if you guys plan on throwing book spoilers around because if so I'll check out. not like I really have anything to add anywhere, just checking out the promo stuff.
From my end, there were so many books and so little detail I recall that to do the comparison thing wouldn't even work. The comment above is pretty innocuous and not much of a spoiler.
I do not plan on giving up any spoilers. Only things I will bring up is very broad stuff like what me and NY are talking about. There's a big city and they go to said big city. It happens in the second book as opposed to the first. Won't spoil or ruin anything at all
The source material is also so fucking detailed and long that there isn’t a chance that characters won’t be combined, left out, and scenes excluded altogether. It will be hard to be critical of that. No way to be a purist here and take that stance. Anyone who does is going to be miserable. That’s why I don’t even care to reread like I did with GoT. I have actually read all of the Jordan books twice anyway to refresh for when the Sanderson books came out. I still don’t remember shit. It’s literally 14 books, 12k pages of source material, 29 nationalities, and 2782 characters. Many of the middle of the books were just meandering, so I would only hope they exclude a lot of that. There are also so many races and lands that seem unnecessary to move the plot along. There are also some prequels, that I would expect if this is successful they will likely do a spin-off of those. As long as this is not some campy silly show like the Sword of Truth shows were then I will just go for the ride. Those books weren’t nearly as good anyway. as an aside, it’s always weird for me when made up words that I read with a pronunciation I made up wind up not being how they are said. I expect a lot of that.
the woman who says "the only thing that matters is what you do" - that actress was great in season 3 of Britannia (which is a very fun show if you're into this genre). looking forward to more of her.
I've read the first 3 books like 2-3 years ago but kids have gotten in the way of continuing the series. Is S1 gonna depict stuff from books 1-3 or 1-2? I can't remember some of the names of the settings as they tend to run together. I may need to read a wiki summary of them as a refresher.
My guess is it's mostly the Eye of the World and the Great Hunt with other stuff cut, compressed, or brought forward.
Definitely much brighter lighting than GoT, which I guess makes sense. Hopefully the effects look real, seems solid from the trailer.
Regarding the books Spoiler I read a cool idea in which the show starts off pretty bright and that as the dark ones influence starts to seep into the world it will get darker and darker. Similar to the books
Also Spoiler I wonder if the 1 second clip of some crying with a ring in his hand is Lews Therin when he forms Dragonmount
I’d be for this. Honestly the lighting reminded me of the Shannara show that was on MTV, which wasn’t very good. I have high hopes for this one though.
That feels very congested based on titles alone, but I think we are going to need to accept that. As long as they don't do what they did to The Dark Tower movie. That was one of the worst things I have ever seen done to an epic book series. I hope someone turns that into a series. It would be perfect.
I Am Legend has to be the worst book to film adaptation of all time. Only the titles are the same. Nothing else at all.
Spoiler It seems like they are hitting Tar Valon before Caemlyn or anything like that. We won't run into Logain at Caemlyn but on the road. That makes it seem a lot less congested
It’s really good and like I said nothing like the movie at all in any way other than there’s a man and he has a house. That’s it.
I was worried up until when they announced the budget for the show and that they already had an outline for 7 to 8 seasons written up. They are going all in for sure and if it sees success it should only get better
Spoiler Im really interested in seeing which of the forsaken they have and which ones they cut out. Just finished a re read of book one and the climax should set the tone going forward.
Supposed to be parts of books 1-3 in season 1. Some rumours that this season might focus on the aes sedai battle with logain that happens fully off screen. Looks like caemlyn has been cut, at least for season 1. Guessing gawyn/Elayne/galad are introduced at the white tower. Idk
