Should be good, imagined thom 20 years older
Air date: both Valyrian Steel and the casting agencies are confirming that Amazon want the show to air before the end of 2020.
Season length: The casting agencies are reporting that the first season will consist of eight episodes. This seems to be tracking with other sources.
The show airing before the end of 2020 is tight but doable: it will finish shooting in May 2020 and with only eight episodes to put through post that seems possible. For comparison, The Witcher S1 finished shooting on 30 May this year and will hit the screen this coming Friday (20 December). WoT will have more post production requirements, but it also appears to have a higher budget and more resources. It also looks like Amazon wants a six-month window between WoT and Season 1 of Lord of the Rings: The Second Age to space out their fantasy show requirements.
I am also very interested in the witcher. I played the video game and it is probably one of the top games ever. I actually never realized it was based on books but that makes a ton of sense.
Books are a younger Geralt so it will likely throw people off that he’s not old and gruff
started reading the series a couple months ago, currently halfway through Lord of Chaos.
Is there a spoiler free character list or something online? I'm afraid to google anything because I know there are spoilers everywhere (I googled one character thinking he was dead a few books back and....nooopppppeee). Thanks guys this series kicks ass.
I know the show is way off still, but joined the subreddit of wheel of time and got me all into it again. Started a reread and bought audible to start listening to the books. Halfway through book 1 and I'm all in again. Going to just read the wiki on some chapters that I know are boring and some books that I know I can skim over.
This is going to take over my life until I finish it now.
I’d love to do a reread but it took me a year the first time so not sure I’m willing to invest that much time again. Maybe just skip 7-10.
Pumped for the show though.
Yeah I don't think I can do a reread. It's just such a commitment and there are so many other books out there.
Yeah I’m glad I read them but I don’t think they are that “good” compared to a lot of modern writing. Fantasy has adapted and thankfully removed a lot of tropes.
Agree to all of those points. I have a ton more Brandon Sanderson books I need to read. I'm not sure I'll be able to do the complete reread, but listening to the good chapters and doing a wiki skim of the rest has been working so far. I'm not great with audio books so I would never be able to do my first read through listening to a book. This is just something to have on while working and currently studying for a cert. Making me realize how much of it I've already forgotten.
Just started the final book of a full reread of the series, hadn't picked them up for 8-10 years so there were lots of new books to get through. Boy what a difference when Sanderson took over.
Yeah he did a great job finishing it up. Love Sanderson. People have complained that he didn’t get Mat right, but I didn’t really notice a drop off.
I loved the change, I got through those books much faster.
