Where does Tubberville coach next and how does he do?

    I want him at Indiana.

His run-oriented offense would fit in nicely in that conference. His defensive approach would translate to any conference in my opinion. He recruits the South very well and with IU being close to I-65 he'd be able to drive down there pretty easily.

Then there is the fact that there is relatively good hunting in and around the area, he could build himself a nice hunting lodge that he could use all year.

Get Bill Lynch the fuck out of Bloomington and bring in T-squared.

I don't think his aloof attitude would play very well with the constant competition of the Big 3, especially given UM's relative dearth of resources and how it would force him to work harder.

You saw it towards the end there at Auburn when Saban arrived. He couldn't keep up with the pace.

Think he'd do well at IU. Don't see it happening though.

Oh, No doubt. Miami stands in the most fertile recruiting ground of all recruiting grounds in the country. However, unlike USC's hegemony in SoCal, Florida State and Florida's constant pressure and presence makes the Miami coach work hard.

Contrary to popular belief, I don't think any 'ole coach could come in to da U and dominate given their recruiting climate. We see that shit right now with Shannon. He's taking his pick of the litter in Dade and Broward, but doesn't have the coaching ability to win without dominating talent.

Tubberville also has a weakness, his drive. If Miami wasn't private and didn't have such a big hole in the pocket, I could see a lazy coach waltzing in there and wrecking house because of the talent available. But they're a poor school. They don't have their own stadium. They're private. That's already 3 negatives stacked against the deck, so you need a coach that can BRING it.

However, should they find an awesome coach with drive and recruiting ability and tenacity and game-day skills, there isn't a job in the country with as much potential. Luckily, because they're so poor, they can never hold on to a coach like that for more than a few years.

I really do not want him at a&m. I think Tubberville is a good coach and if you give him a program that already has solid resources and/or history and is in a fertile recruiting ground he will turn things around.

That looks like the nicest stadium I have ever seen. Recent renovation or new?

Dunno when the last renovation for the actual stadium was, definitely a few years ago. But they've been steadily adding stuff around the stadium since like 2001:

Sorry, but tuberville doesnt have a "run-oriented offense". His offense is whatever his
current OC runs. He's the classic hands-off CEO type of coach who lives and dies by his asst.s. When they're good, he looks like a master and when they're bad, he looks like a bum.

I say he licks his wounds in a commentary booth for a couple of years. After that, idk.

It has been mentioned on our boards before that Tubs was good friends with Belotti and could possibly be interested in coaching on the West Coast. I am not sure what Pac 10 schools would give him a look or would be looking for a coach soon. Wazzu sucks ass and he would never go there and they could be looking for a coach soon. The Arizona schools could be looking for a coach in the next couple of years.

I could also see Tubs going to a school like A&M where he coached before and when they were looking for a coach a few years ago he was mentioned quite a bit. Miami is in the same boat and he has a lot of connections to the South Florida area and could recruit well and build a strong D and dominate in the ACC.

I also like the idea ATL had that Indiana would be a good school to go to because it is a basketball school and he would not be in the spotlight while he rebuilds the team. His connections in the South and to Florida would bode well recruiting wise in order to bring in some speed to the Big 10 which has been proven to be a slower conference. Tubs and his previous staff were good at bringing in some underrated kids and coaching them up to become stars.

Tubs could have a lot of options, but who knows how much he really wants to get back into college football and uproot his family when he has two sons, one that is in or about to be in HS.

While I couldn't admit it while he was at Auburn, I have a lot of respect for Tubberville as a coach. He did win 6 straight against us, and his 2003 team was one of the best teams college football has seen in the last 15 years...period.

I think he'll do well whereever he lands next. I'm not sure how any self-respecting Auburn fan could legitimately say that Chizik is an improvement over Tubbs, which is why I'm a big fan of the Chizik hire.

    Good job, Jay Jacobs.

That was the 2004 team you are thinking of, which was a great team that the media did not have a stiffy for like some other teams in the SEC have had when they were good. It definitely hurt Auburn that we sucked a huge donkey dick the previous season when we were rated so high to begin the season and got blown out against USC and sucked against GA tech the next game. Also, it didn't help that Auburn does not have the name recognition such as an Alabama, Tennessee, UGA, or Florida. If any of those teams had the season we did there would be no doubt they would have gone to the MNC game over Oklahoma that season.

I agree that Chizik is not an improvement right now over Tuberville, but with the staff he has, it is a lot better top to bottom than the ones that Tubs had when he was at Auburn. I think Tubs got complacent and was way too loyal to his staff in order to get the guys like Knox, Nall, Gran etc. aka teh BBQ crew Alabama state retirement. They all did end up getting it, but now they all have new jobs elsewhere. It seems the new staff has more of a drive and passion for what they do than the previous staff ended on.

On a side not and not an excuse or anything, Chizik was at Iowa St. which everybody knows is a blackhole, with limited resources and a terrible group of players that was left for him. The depth chart his last two years was comprised mostly of freshman and sophomores. You can't tell me any coach could have winning seasons with the depth chart he had. There is no excuse for him to lose 10 games in a row and hopefully he will learn from his game management problems and improve as a coach to at least get us to 6-6 or 7-5.

Its gonna be tough for him to win 8 IMO with that schedule but he should be gone if he doesnt. He needs to show alot of improvement

I think Tubs ends up either at Miami or a school on the west coast if he coaches again. But I do not believe he will be return to coaching. It's been said that he was having personal problems because of his coaching career. Also, the majority of his assistant coaches had been with him since his ole miss days and those coaches are either coaching elsewhere or have other jobs. I just don't believe he has the drive to assemble a new staff and rebuild a program or take over one.

    2004...that's right. Jason Campbell, Cadillac,
Donnie Brown, Oromashabadabbado, and several others. Wasn't Jay Ratliff on that team too?

I agree that the staff under Chizik is better than it was under Tubbs, but a team is defined by their head coach. Think Pete Carroll, Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Jim Tressell. Mack Brown. They're great coaches, not only because they have great staffs, but also because they're great coaches. Put the staff Chizik has with Tubberville, and you guys would be in the BCS conversation every year. I'm just not sure a great supporting staff alone can get very far, because almost every team in the SEC has a great supporting staff. That's not something that's unique to Auburn.

I will say the new staff seems to be more innovative and driven than the previous staff was in recruiting. Tubb's staff almost appeared to "throw in the towel" when it came to recruiting against Saban.

I'm hoping that the Iron Bowl turns back into a season defining game with more at stake than in recent years.....like the Red River Shootout or like UF/FSU used to be in the 90's. Lately, neither of us have really been strong at the same time, so the rivalry has lost some of it's national attention.

I totally agree with you on what you are saying about the head coach thing.

The recruiting deal with Tubs was that he had a strict policy for giving kids offers unless they camped. We missed out on some kids because of this and we didn't offer them early enough in the process. Also, the old staff seemed like they were always content on getting under the radar kids instead of waiting on the big dogs. It had worked in the past with some guys, but not all of the time and with Saban coming in and working the way he does, we sort of rolled over and let him have at it.

It would be a great thing when both teams were ranked in the top 25 and the winner would be going to Atlanta. I am also pretty pissed how they moved the game to Friday for the next couple of years. It definitely makes it hard for me traveling from the west coast, where I have family back to Atlanta and then to the games. Fuck CBS.

I don't like the Friday thing either...but at the same time...we'll be the only CFB game on at that time...so more exposure for both of us.

Still, fuck CBS, Gary Danielson, and especially Verne Lundquist.

He will not go to Miami. He has proven that he is not capable of recruiting in-state against a competent coach. He will get blown away by Meyer, hell even Jimbo. I think we'll see him commentating for a few more years...
