I really really really really don't want to move, but it feels like everything is telling us to. At this point if we are we might as well just move to Canada and this seems like a good place.
It’s at the top of our list. It’s really sad that I have an opportunity to take a job and move back to Arkansas to be around all of our family but I’m not going to do it because it’s a shit hole now and will just become worse once Sanders is elected. My MIL and SIL are here visiting with my nephew and it’s great to have them interacting with our son and if we moved back he’d be able to see all of his family basically all the time but it’s just not a place I want him to grow up in.
My wife’s company is based out of Calgary and she’s looking at positions there to be able to transfer as well.
Everyone come to Texas. Let’s finally turn it blue and enjoy that EV block. I’m leaving for Costa Rica soon but I’ll be cheering on the rest of you as you rebuild it into a somewhat functioning democracy
Someone take my place. The wife has finally agreed to begin looking at moving away from this shithole
No utopias exist. This place is a hellscape that to some degree deserves to be eaten from the inside out.
Will be interesting to see how key west plays out once same sex marriage is made illegal. I was there in January for a bachelor party and storefronts were littered with FJB and Brandon souvenirs. Of course there was plenty of rainbow flags and “we accept everyone” stickers.
Thomas’ suggestion was overturning the ruling that made gay sex legal. They’re going to outlaw it all
Not a lot of water though. Like if it’s yellow let it mellow seemed like the state motto for my friends in Taos.
Really sucks as I said before and it’s my home state and NWA is a great place, but I’m putting all my chips on Arkansas becoming the worst place ever post Sanders election. With Rutledge by her side and Cotton in her corner she’s going to race to the bottom and I think actually win against Abbott and DeSantis for worst person in the country. Her entire political career is theatrics. She doesn’t care about governance, it’s all about the show so she’s going to go completely off the grid to the right in hopes of making a run at the Oval Office in the future. I say this being a pessimistic shithead, but it’s going to get bad imho.
I’d prefer a liberal state with a warmer climate. What are my options outside of SoCal here? Would prefer city living
Just got back from there two weeks ago. But I certainly get a strong socially liberal, fiscally conservative vibe from that city. Very strong restaurant scene tho.
I took someone to a PP in the heart of Los Angeles, there were still religious zealots outside at like 8 in the morning.
The other liberal warm states still have plenty of imperialist white crazies. Lived in LA for 9 years. Now Vegas. Figured it’d be like baby LA. It’s not, there are more outspoken right wing psychos. But compared to the Midwest the political climate here is ultra liberal.
Pluses for MN: - Hasn't voted red for president since Nixon - Attached to a great lake for water needs - Winter will get gradually warmer due to climate change - Great metropolitan area - Abuts Canada so easy to dip there if needed
I wish Minnesota would annex a southern port. I’d happily live in Minnesota’s Kallingrad on the Gulf.
Most servers I know in Vegas are active Trump supporters and it's the complete opposite in LA - it's always baffled me.
Sacramento. Also have the very liberal city of Davis about 20 miles to the west. The Sacramento burbs have plenty of Central Valley Chuds, but the city itself not so much.
San Jose is amazing weather and access to everything u want but still has good enough neighborhoods to raise a family……..but drawback is it is the most expensive city in America
my wife and I moved to Sacto for a year after San Francisco and we couldn’t last more then 1 year exact, it’s terrible
We live in Texas but we were planning to leave even before all of this shit. I have a Canadian passport so we have a lottery ticket and sponsoring my wife and son doesn't appear to be too cumbersome. My Father in Law lives in Colorado so that would be the other option if we decided to stay in the US.
Another point for NM... My happiness seems linked directly to how much I'm reading and I'm reading the most when I'm living places with tons of sunshine and legal weed Among states won by Biden in 2020, the places with most sunshine and legal weed appear to be CA, NV, AZ, NM and CO. If you can stand less warm environments then WA, OR, MN, MI, NY and MA seem like great bets. WA, OR, MI and MA with legal weed markets up and running and I guess NY might now too?
We could easily end up with a GOP Governor this November and Santa Fe is no longer affordable. Taos even more so. Albuquerque is still somewhat attainable but the housing market has blown the fuck up and isn’t showing any signs of stopping. Las Cruces is affordable and is a tepid purple politically but is in a chud part of the state. And yeah Taques is right about the water. So we’re still better than most options but know what you’re getting into if you decide to move here.
Off base a little in the thread but I’m moving back home to Florida in august. Are they going to keep abortions legal in Florida? Could change my mind.
Plus pretty awesome scenery and plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities. I'll be looking jumping to a job in MN as soon as I get the opportunity
you realize we're not talking about "most people" we're discussing someone who, after one court decision, is deciding to pack it up and move, right? people who have the ability to move on a whim as it were most likely have the ability to emigrate elsewhere with far less trouble than you'd imagine, especially with lovely Canada directly to our north.
