The duke kid is the worst. so A+ for accuarcy. Also i’m not American so the whole accent part doesnt normally bother me but wtf lol. Love Amiee Lou Wood. always have. always will.
I think I have said this before, but from time to time when I lived in California I would get asked if I was from Australia. Weird how the two accents can cross over sometimes.
Im terrible w names at the beginning of series but when Walter Goggins girl said she'd die for him to find his happiness - alarm bells went off in my head.
there was so much potential foreshadowing throughout the entire episode. A lot of lines like that which you knew could mean more.
I saw a lot of people on Reddit theorizing that the shooting at the resort is a monkey, that would be terrible
A monkey picking up a gun and pulling the trigger while investigating it. Bad luck of someone actually getting hit and dying, sure. Actually would play into the ridiculousness of the deaths in this show. But a monkey doing a spree shooting? no way.
The shots of the jungle/monkeys give you that disquiet feeling like any environmental scenery shot in "Deliverance"
I got into the reddit thread last night too. First time I've ever done that for a show, and the range of commentary made me laugh. Some off the wall shit like this, some stuff that seems smart/insightful/highly plausible, and then a whole bunch of "calling it now: something bad is going to go down with these blonde ladies. I'm sensing hidden resentment there."
I feel like she's trying to do a Jennifer Coolidge impression. I feels more like bad acting than just being a weird character.
Malfoy said in an interview that the Durham accent is unlike any other in the south and extremely different and only located to that area. Is that true?
As someone from the neighboring Carolina, his accent didn't sound that bad to me. He's kinda nailing the weird o thing some people do around here (in a word like "polo." Almost like saying ayo instead of just o.) Hers sounds faker to me.
I know about Ocracoke Island. Supposedly what people there is closely related to the original colonists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocracoke,_North_Carolina Haven't learned anything about Durham linguistics.
I won't pretend to be an expert on the subject, especially on this board, but based on the handful of wealthy southern dilletantes I know her character/acting rang pretty true to me. But to your point that's viewed through the lens of a series that has allowed for over-the-top personalities.
Grew up in Raleigh, and I thought both their accents were a bit fucked up. At times it sounded fine, but there were instances where I definitely noticed it. Never heard anyone say that Raleigh/Durham has a different dialect than anywhere else in the south. As a NC State fan that grew up in Raleigh, I was laughing my ass off at the depiction of that family. It was pretty perfect aside from the inconsistent accents.
So far the setup for all the mysteries I only find goggins one potentially interesting. Isaacs one looks boring and normal.
Well 2 out of 2 seasons the actual incident is wild and unpredictable so not sure why everyone thinks they can guess it.
Fully expect Carrie Coon's character to sleep with Duke frat boy and the masseurs guru. I also loosely think she is Portia's mom, but I don't have enough evidence to confirm that.
Just thinking back on how her friends just said "your daughter is just cool" and the shared meltdown behavior between Portia and Carrie Coons behavior. As I said before, I'm just spitballing at the moment. No need for folks to go defcon 1.
I'm not the only one who possibly sees a connection. https://www.justjared.com/2025/02/2...bout-season-2s-portia-being-lauries-daughter/
Im already not really a fan of the through lines they keep pushing season to season. That theory becoming true would kinda jump the shark
It’s also the kind of theory at this stage that could only be out there (if true) because someone was spoiled. Sorry, not buying someone just making a wild ass guess based on what we have seen so far. That’s why I asked based on what, because I haven’t seen anything that would lead someone to try to put that together.
Feels like they’ve leaned too far into the characters being shitty. Before there were glimmers of redemptive qualities before their flaws were revealed, but too many this season just are despicable from the start.
The English girl with Walter Goggins seems nice enough. But yeah most characters seem shitty or weird. I can't figure out what's going with the youngest brother in the family. He seems weird.
I don't dislike Walton Goggins character. Not sure if this has been discussed but I think the old Asian ladies husband murdered his dad. I could be way off but I think that's why he wants to find him.
