Look up marginal tax rates
I too prefer the wealth tax, and per accountant people its getting harder for people to hide money but IRS going to need lots more money to go hunting.
lol i know how marginal tax rates work. trust me.
if any of the candidates ran on fixing the public education system, providing free school lunch to all public school kids, and starting teacher salaries at $80k nationwide i would donate the max from me and the max via a lot of family members to their campaign.
but i also think we should streamline the tax system because my god second time in three years paying taxes in two states and fuck
just pay the stated progressive rates on income, no deductions, no write-offs. oh and follow other countries leads by making the top tax rate kick in earlier and be higher. stop catering to tax preparers and the wealthy by making it so complex
figuring out if my IRA-Roth IRA conversion needed to be taxed in OR or MN or both took way too long
no write offs would fucking murder me
and would murder all your favorite charities
i would be fine if the higher taxes kicked in quicker but the top rate stays where it is. as someone who has a non-zero change of making 10 million / year and to do so would need to employ 25-35 people, i can confidently say i would stop trying to grow if 70% of all income over that went to the federal government to waste on stupid shit.
i'll be curious how the charity deduction plays out now that we evaporated huge amounts of people who itemize with the doubling of the standard deduction
but I'd also be fine with shifting the tax rates around if we made the rates more set in stone
I don't get your latter point, unless your work is directly linear growth and wouldn't ever achieve exponential growth/decreasing your actual work time once you achieve that level. but again, when you're at $10mill/year its a good problem to have. you could maybe keep 37% at the top rate but just collapse the brackets so it kicks in at ~125k or so.
i also think separating tax brackets for single/married is total bullshit.
and it is pretty linear--the more money we spend marketing the more cases we have the more people we need to work the cases the more money we make.
this is in a world with aggressive wealth taxes for the record
the incentivizing marriage and kids thing is always a little weird, not to mention married filing jointly/separately calculus is kind of fucky
like why does this chart exist
could also just cut military spending significantly and lower taxes even more.
do we really need 11 $40 billion aircraft carriers in 2019?
or do the former and not cut taxes then we can really do some shit (need to raise them tbh)
its embarrassing how comparatively far behind we are other similarly wealthy countries policy wise(and lots and lots of poorer countries)
You’re not gonna find too many people here that are against reining in DoD spending, or at least make their budget transparent, or both.
the articles that came out after the pentagon audit where they had no clue where billions of dollars were was insane yet totally expected.
The answer is always Pete.
Back on the subject of income inequality...
Huh. The most recent tax cut helps super wealthy companies and people the most. Nobody could have seen this coming.
-Tax companies/wealthy like they used to do. Get rid of Trump tax cuts. Keep the estate tax.
-Cut huge unnecessary contracts with military contractors.
-Get rid of Citizens United.
(Make all money for political campaigns transparent and come from the public. No lobbyist)
-Spend money on infrastructure, schools and new energy tech.
-Reasonable gun laws. They should be harder to get. Its a responsibility.
-Regulate big banks. They've gotten more powerful since 2008 crisis.
- Weed should be legal for medicinal reasons everywhere. States vote for recreational.
- Universal income sounds great, but its not the govts job to pay everyone.
It will be when all the robots take er jobs
I was so confused for a second. I thought I swore I posted this in the trump thread.
There was a big discussion about it ITT, so I figured I would bring it over.
I know I'm a brutal Mayor Pete stan but if you have Audible burn a credit on his book. Shit is really good.
Kamala is bae
If drug companies are going to rip people off and govt isnt going to help then allow companies to bring meds in from Canada. I do this and pay $.50 on the dollar.
Do not privatize the VA, and increase spending on mental health care for veterans. Its embarrassing how poorly they take care of veterans. My dad used to work for the VA and most people leave/quit.
Release kids in ICE detention camps. History doesnt look kindly on internment camps. See the Japanese Americans during WW2
Private contractors for prisons are a bad idea also. It incentivizes putting people in prison and the companies lobby for stricter drug laws.We have 5% of world population and like 20% of its prisoners.
I think marijuana is a medical issue not criminal one unless its driving under the influence. People are going to use it regardless. If its legalized tax it and have the state govt benefit. No legislation where a small # of people control licenses either.
Biden, kamala, beto
Dems need the Hispanic and urban black vote to offset the rural white trash vote.
Elizabeth Warren came get that
They need 40K votes in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. And yes Warren can get that.
loved this interview to be honest. He wont win the nomination and sure the questions werent curveballs but he sounded amazingly prepared yet spontaneous. Would love it if he did become a bigger figure sooner rather than later
Mika said "jack it off" at 5:26 right, or am I hearing things?
she most certainly did
Yea, morning joe pre-preps certain interviews and others are off the cuff. This one was noticeably pre-prepped and I don’t agree with parts of it but the guy is obviously pretty fucking intelligent.
To add to that - the vast majority are pre-prepped so it’s definitely not anything new.
People are so stupid that Howard Dean lost a presidential race largely due to making a sound at a campaign rally (not saying that would have been a good outcome or anything) - but at the end of the day one perceivably stupid or weird statement/action can derail a campaign so almost all of this shit is rehearsed or they just won’t go on the show.
ow i fully assumed its pre prepped and its not meant to be a debate so i dont have issues there. Really curious what the main points of disagreement were. I think saying being a mayor is a good proxy for presidency is very flawed personally but I get why he gives the answer. The big issue where he might (probably is) not be prepared for is the scope of problems. As a mayor, the vast majority of problems and the vast majority of the resolutions are within the scope of the imagination and therefore inherently more intuitive, certainly a smaller town like South Bend
Just let me preface this by saying that Eisenhower was as a whole good president but Im wondering if people in the upcoming decades will find a flaw in his resume that has kept the US in something of a corner.
During the cold war it was obvious to portray the world in an us vs them kinda way. The way this was portrayed in Europe was a democratic/human rights vs totalitarian/human rights violation kinda way but under the presidency of Eisenhower that seemed to have been too much of a restriction of the government I guess so they went strict capitalist/christian vs socialism/atheist. Whilst this also very much fucks with what true atheism is it also greatly tainted the word socialism in the US. It was a choice I fully understand but it left a kinda nasty scar
Find it kind of funny that he met his husband on hinge.
I still wish we would have a single president in the modern age, can't imagine the shitshow that would ensure.
booker is single right? Dont think he has a big shot but he isnt a total pipe dream
He has a girlfriend, but not sure how serious it is.
i remember a podcast saying he was the last (i thought i remembered single, but it mightve been unmarried) and I think it wouldve made him the last unmarried president since the first and only gay president
He's admitted he has one and DC people have seen him hanging out with Rosario Dawson a lot so I'm assuming it's her.
Have no idea the legitimacy of this article but just googled it and this is what was the first result:
ow i fully believe you, just trying to explain my mistake
True, but it did 100% sound like jack it off.
Worked pretty well for the Dems in 2016...
To be fair the Democratic nominee got more votes than Trump in 2016.
Pete run for Senate
If only that mattered. At all.
