he will get constantly attacked by everyone in primaries, and the general (remember trump brought it up constantly because Hillary's husband signed it) for literally writing the 90's crime bill

he'll have to defend that alone in every single debate

setting aside Anita Hill, plagiarism that killed his last presidential run, bailing out a GOP candidate this last year for pay, on and on, not even touching the "rumors"

Even if that were true, which it likely is not, his "entire campaign" would not be about refuting his past.

Sorry to break it to ya.

Joe is benefiting right now from being Obamas VP and largely seemingly non-partisan Uncle Joe (much like Hillarys sky high approval coming off being SoS)

that all goes away once he declares

The thing that's extremely frustrating is that this thread tends to talk about why so and so isn't an option (and other people get upset and whatnot) but Trump has done at least 100 things that should make him unelectable and he's untouchable. It's mind bottling.

theres a lot of doubt about this as the Dem base continues to get less white, more female, and younger (not to mention, more racially liberal)

like people are saying, basically everyone talked about can beat Trump, but Biden being a magic bullet candidate is wildly over blown

The polling shows virtually no difference between him and the other candidates, so again, why Biden versus the progressive candidates? Do you prefer his policies to theirs?

theres just no real data to support this view

it's basically Hillary was highly disliked (less than Trump, but still historically high)

    FBI letter

and Hillary lost ground because she couldn't rally the base on racial equality issues without shedding Dem leaning racial conservatives (Obama could do this by campaigning as a post racial candidate, but by being a minority it excited the racial liberals)

There will be a female Republican elected President before we see a female Democrat. There are still way too many mysoginist liberal stereotypes for a woman on the left to win.

Depends on the policy. Also I think there will be a super backlash in 2022 against a super progressive and we could be back in 2010-2016 again.

I consider the Rust Belt to be those areas of the Great Lakes states which once had high union membership who voted Democrat.

Western PA, but not the middle of PA.

NE Ohio, Toledo and Dayton, but not Columbus, Cincinnati or farm country.

SE Michigan, but not parts of Western Michigan.

Chicago, Milwaukee, but not Central Illinois, Indy or Madison WI.

None of those states are homogeneous economically or politically. When Democrats win there, they win by motivating the Rust Belt areas of the state.

Obama was hugely popular among auto workers. Midwestern whites loved Obama.

He beat McCain in Indiana in 2008. He’s the only Democrat to win Indiana since 1964. He won Ohio twice.

If there is a candidate who can motivate those voters again, there is no path to victory for Trump.

    Just saw this post.

Are those two issues really the biggest threats to our country?

What about the advent of AI and AGI? Racism? China stealing IP? Cyber security? CRISPR and potential genetic engineering?

Just seems like we have bigger fish to fry :idk:

climate change is going to cause global refugee, famine, etc crises (that are already happening) that if not addressed will lead to immense death (and if we're going neolib on it, economic tumult), unless you pay attention to climate scientists you likely underestimate how bad its going to get.

and economic inequality leads to political instability, democratic erosion, and eventually domestic crises (terrorism, political murders, etc) but you don't really know how bad it has to get before you go off the cliff. all things we're seeing an increase of especially the first two.

I get worrying about your ankle hurting, or starting a new job next year, but these are like tumors growing on the side of your head that are getting worse while half the country is denying its there.

I think the problem is that I don't understand "economic inequality."

There has to be some level of inequality that is acceptable, right?

i mean sure in the most basic sense, but the US is a complete outlier among comparatively rich countries per capita. basically every time its researched the greater it gets (and its increasing in the US) the more problems it causes.

its basically a societal acceptance of an economic caste system as its pared with very low rates of social mobility

people are way too prone to think "this is how things just are" instead of realizing as a society its a choice we make to allow people to fly in gold plated jets to their private island estate while others are homeless and kids don't have food
