LSU. If their defense breaks that habit of getting 50 dropped on them and maybe come close to the level of their defenses from before last year then they have as good of a shot as anybody.

IMO, it is gonna be a very interesting race in the West. Alabama has been a recruiting monster the last couple years and will be a very good team. They will be breaking in a new QB and LT, so it really depends on how well those players step up. Saban is a damn good coach, so Im pretty sure the Tide will be ready. LSU is kinda in the same boat, but like Alabama, has been recruiting studs. You just never know, though. Tennessee was a decent QB away from being very good last year. We all saw what happened there. Ole Miss is damn talented right now. They have the players to make a run at it, but can they really get over being Ole Miss? They have skill and some depth everywhere, but still, its Ole Miss. Just doesnt seem right for them to really win the West. In the end, IMO, it will be the winner of Bama and LSU playing Florida in Atlanta.

I thought you guys had a very terrible OL coach that made his offensive linemen switch positions based on strong/weakside per play

That was probably something that kept you from being very good last year too, right?

seriously though, i think its gonna be bama or lsu for 1 in the west, and ole miss / ark for 2 in the west. the winner of bama lsu plays florida. and i pray to everything holy on this earth that tebow gets killed in that game.

TN had a very experienced oline last year, even if the whole switching thing was crap. Crompton and Stephens should have been able to overcome the line shifting. There were just too many close games to blame it on the oline. Too many underthrown passes. But yeah, the system didnt help. We have good receivers. We had Lucas Taylor, who was a 1000 yd receiver the year before, and Gerald Jones, who is a burner. Throw in Austin Rogers, a great possession receiver, and we had the goods to get it done. With Clawsons system in place, we were never contenders in the East, but with a decent QB, we would have beaten Auburn, UCLA, Wyoming, and possibly UGA. That would have made us 8-4 or possibly 9-3.

exactly...kinda a catch 22 IMO. Last years supreme disappointment vs. more of the same Fulmer Bullshit. As much as I cringe thinking about last year, it was almost worth it to have the excitement we do now.

The winner of the Bama-LSU fight for the SEC West will play Florida in the SECCG.

Now if it's LSU that wins the West, and plays in the Atlanta dome (LSU is 7-1 in domes), it'd be quite a matchup against Florida, a team built lethally for a fast track.

How good will Jefferson be? I know he had a really good Peach Bowl but that was only one game tho. I posted a thread on the RB a few weeks back asking about your defense and the vibe I got was that you guys are really confident in him. What kind of QB is he? I'm assuming he's athletic but does he have good arm? Is he a leader?

LSU's '08 defense was a one-time abomination, I'm betting. I'm more interested in seeing if Jefferson is the real deal. If he has even a decent day against UF(which they play before Ole Miss or Bama), I'm taking LSU to meet UF in ATL.

That's what I'm thinking too. If Jefferson is alittle more than servicable they'll win the west. While Alabama has a great defense, I think they just have too many question marks on offense, losing their LT and QB. Eventually McElroy (Bama's QB, right?) will be better than SJP, but he will have some growing pains this year no doubt.

I am hopeful for Jefferson. He has a strong arm, good feet, awareness, playmaking ability and accuracy. The chink in his armor that I really noticed was that he rolled out to his right side A LOT in that GT game. All of his big throws happened on the right side or in the middle of the field. He didn't drop straight back much. Mostly rolling out or sliding right. That could be a HUGE problem cuz it's super easy to defend.

But I hope it was just the offensive game plan for that game.

IMO the LSU OL will be overwhelmed by Bama's front 7.

Jefferson will get pressured and although he is an up and coming QB in the SEC, he won't quite be ready for what Saban slings his way on blitzes and jack LB pressures.

Bama will run well enough to open up the passing game and score enough to outlast LSU and win the SEC West.

Ole Miss get on our level. Like Jefferson your team is an emerging force in the SEC but you aren't good enough to knock us off the perch. The DL will press our OL but the Running game and Julio will be enough to outscore the Rebels. Yall's offense was good last year and we still almost shut you out in the first half. You scored 3 points. Our entire defense from last year returns plus some freeks from the incoming class. Our offense could possibly be better than last years because our QB is far more talented than JPW. Our runningback rotation is going to be nasty and even if the OL doesn't block well (by this point DJ Fluker will be steam rolling SEC defenses) guys like Trent Richardson and Mark Ingram will get their yards.

Not trying to be a blind homer but this is honestly how I feel based off my knowledge of Bama's program and everyone else in the SEC.

I thought that was the gameplan, roll jefferson away from Gtech's DE Michael Johnson. Johnson may have been playing on the right side though, so I could be wrong

IMO the LSU OL will be overwhelmed by Bama's front 7.

Yeah because we were so overwhelmed last year, We ran for 200 yards last year against the same D with saban stacking the box and blitzing like crazy.

Jefferson will get pressured and although he is an up and coming QB in the SEC, he won't quite be ready for what Saban slings his way on blitzes and jack LB pressures.

There's no need for a reply to this.

Bama will run well enough to open up the passing game and score enough to outlast LSU and win the SEC West.

Bama will probably get some run's, but LSU will stack the box and make mcelroy throw to beat us. Luckily for bama julio will be on the field to help him out.

First of all what perch is bama sitting on? Does the title SEC runner-ups make you the king of the west now. Second Ole Miss is really good and will probably beat you, and they may beat us as well. Third You're O-line will suck this year. Do you remember how bad you're running game and pass protection looked against Utah without andre smith? And now bama fans expect to put a true FS at tackle. One day fluker will be really good, but he's not andre smith and even if he is similiar andre struggled his FS year against extremely talented SEC defensive linemen.

Not trying to be a blind homer but this is honestly how I feel based off my knowledge of Bama's program and everyone else in the SEC.

Well at least you could admit to being extremely biased.

Bama is damn good, they will be able to win games because their D will cause turnovers and give them good field position. I just don't see their offense ever achieving balance. I know bama fans think Mcelroy is better than JPW but I thought JPW did a decent job last year and Mac will struggle as a first time starter with a shaky O-line. And when you don't have a passing game(except for Julio), or a proven O-line, opposing D's stack and attack. Even with those question marks, bama will undoubtedly be in contention for the west all season long just b/c of how good their D is.

BTW I think ole miss will win the west next year, It's gotta happen some time. And with that easy of a schedule they should be able to get it done.

To LSU fans bragging about those 200 rushing yards they had against us. Remember, T-Cody played that entire game with a torn MCL. Just sayin, he wasn't completely ready. And him and Rolando are the anchors of our front seven.

People don't realize how smart Greg McElroy is. He is applying to be a rhodes scholar and has a 4.0 in one of the best public business schools in the country. There is nobody who watches more tape then he does. Watch his interviews, the guy is a student of the game. Say what you want about his talent, or his arm, but he WILL be mentally ready for the SEC. Anyone remotely close to the organization knows that our offense is in GREAT hands with Greg, and there will be zero dropoff at QB. In fact, most people expect an improvement.

As far as the O-line goes, we replace Caldwell with the strongest man on our team. Youtube William Vlachos's high school tape, it is seriously the second best tape I've ever seen(Besides Andres) He is just short, but he will be fine. Mike Johnson at LG will be an NFL starter. Drew Davis at RT was very solid last year. At left tackle, we have James Carpenter(Who had a good spring going up against one of the best front sevens in the country) or DJ Fluker(Nuff said). At left tackle, we have an open competition between John Michael Boswell(4 star), David Ross(4 star), and James Carpenter(If Fluker takes over at LT). Running behind them we have a fine stable of backs with Roy Upchurch, Mark Ingram, and Trent Richardson.

Seriously, our offense will be fine, and our defense will be dominant. Alabama wins the west, and probably loses to Florida.

First of all my buddy is right, Cody was hurt last year in this game and that made a huge impact on our front 7. When our front 7 is healthy it's very very tough to run against. Our front 7 will be even better next year. Cody will be lighter and quicker with another offseason under his belt. Ppl. that have seen him lately and viewed him at spring practice have said he's noticeably faster and quicker. Josh Chapman is extremly good also. Strongest guy on our team with a low center of gravity, he's a bulldog at nosegaurd. Marcel Dareus is going to be a beast on the DL next year as well as Lorenzo Washington and Brandon Deadrick. Donta Hightower will be one of the best linebackers in the conference next year and Courtney Upshaw will have at least 5 sacks from the Jack position. Jerrell Harris will fly all over the field and be efficient in pass coverage.

Would continue this rant but I got to kick somones ass is COD.

Ole Miss and LSU will be our toughest competition.

It wouldn't suprise me if Ole Miss loses some games it shouldn't next year. Nutt isn't known for being a dominant coach. So he's won a few games, so what? He still lost to Bama last season and got beat by Wake Forest. He isn't god. He is Houston Nutt a coach who is simply not as talented as Nick Saban. Alabama historically ownes Ole Miss, we hardly ever lose to them. Even in our probation days in the 2000s we still kicked their ass. The only time Ole Miss is truely dangerous is when they have a Manning. So they beat Texas Tech, so what. Texas Tech was overrated last year. Plus we shut them down last year. They beat an overrated Texas team that beat an overrated Ohio State team in an overrated bowl. Bama shut down Texas Tech in the 2005 Cotton Bowl. What was the score 13-10 or something like that. Big 12 defenses suck for the most part...Oklahoma did a good job of slowing down Florida but Texas' defense was not that hot last year. You have to look at the very best teams in the conference to find good defense in the Big 12. Not so much in the SEC..teams like Ole Miss have good defenses just to give you perspective. Tennessee sucked last year and still had a sick defense with Eric Berry playing the center role. All it takes is good defense and that bullshit spread ain't gonna fly. Demeco Ryans wasn't about to have any of that bullshit. So in conclusion Ole Miss is overrated.

I'm still not sure about Jefferson. He's got the physical tools but I still haven't seen him stressed by a good defense. The line is not a definite success either imo. I'm also interested to see if lsus D comes back to normal under new leadership or those kids are just paper champs in that secondary.

Bamas Oline is a huge question for me. I dont see how the OP is so confident in it. GregMc should provide at least what Wilson did. If the line sucks, that shouldn't be much. The D looks stacked but will it finally have someone to rush the passer? That shit killed us last year.

I'll say Lsu beats bama but still loses the west because of an Arkansas/OM & UF
Wishful thinking homer pick for me is Bama comes from the west

i think it is going to be LSU-Alabama winner... ole miss always chokes when they have preseason expectations placed on them(see 2003). arkansas may be improved but not enough, same for auburn, dont know what to expect out of state but could not see more than 4 or 5 wins for them... early gut feeling says lsu
