I know he was an icon for people in our generation, but will that stand the test of time without him being formally recognized for his greatness?

Both Jim Thorpe and Deion Sanders are in the pro football hall of fame. I know Bo's injury cut his career short, but he was an outstanding player in his short time. He was basically what every kid from the 80's wanted to become.

Is his legend going to die with our generation? Or do you think he'll be inducted once he passes away? Or will his legend live on even without being in the hall?

If there was a HOF for greatest athletes, he's in for sure.

    But no.

I think there’s a 10 year minimum requirement for MLB HOF, so he wouldn’t be eligible there.

His time has already passed for the Pro Football HOF, so he will never make it there either.

No of course not. Definitely not MLB. Don’t think those comparisons are very good tbh. Deion is the GOAT cover corner and Bo Jackson is not much more than a ‘could’ve been’.

So does his legend die with our generation? Is he gonna be one of those players that our 90 year old asses recognize and our great grandkids have no clue who he was?

That's more of the question I'm asking. I know his numbers aren't worthy of being there, but is being in the Hall of Fame what actually makes your legacy last?

Just spinning my wheels here. I could see it happening in the aftermath of his death when people are emotional about it.

lol @ Bo and MLB HoF in the same sentence. He was a great MLB highlight. He wasn't a great MLB player.

As for the NFL, he played 38 games. He rushed for 2700 yards. He scored 16 TD's.

With as many great players as there are who have been left out of their respective halls of fame, the answer to your question is not no but hell no. This may be the biggest delusional homerism thread there's ever been.

I'm not even advocating that he get in.

I'm just asking how his legacy will unfold after we're gone if nothing about him is mentioned in the halls of fame.

The tag “better than Marcus Allen” is particularly funny. Allen had nearly 18,000 total yards and 144 TDs. But yeah, Bo is better.

A very small % of people actually go to the HoF. In the modern world, people learn 100x more online than they do from walking through a museum. But let's be honest, go look at his actual numbers and they just don't stack up with the truly greats. Could get have done better if he played one sport and didn't get injured? Probably. That doesn't change what actually happened though. Bo was a much bigger marketing icon than he was an old field performance icon.

Yea the op question is ludicrous and the only way he’d ever really be considered is if the nfl HOF operated like the basketball HOF. It might be an interesting question if he had a monster year and stats that ended up comparable to Gale Sayers.

So if Bo had a season much much much better than he ever actually had maybe he could be compared to Gale Sayers, who led the league in rushing 2 of his 5 seasons? I mean, I guess.

Most people realize he was more great highlight than great player and that his marketing campaign made him more of a sports icon than he really should have been based on his level of play.

He was a pretty great player before his hip fell off, but yeah the branding is certainly what made him.

I just thought nostalgia and feelings might rule over reason for people our age, because yeah his numbers certainly don't warrant being in the hall.

Again I'll admit I'm seeing this as an Auburn fan who grew up idolizing the guy.

In football, it's like Mark Ingram's before he rushed for 1,000 yards.

Pretty great at what? Certainly not MLB. He would have led MLB in K% every year he played if he had enough AB's to qualify. And he played at the same time as Rob Deer. In football, he ran for 2700 yards his his career. 7 players have rushed for 2000+ in one season. He was freak athlete and had some insane highlight but overall he simply wasn't a great player. For instance, he had runs of 88, 91, and 92 yards. Amazing highlights. Those 3 runs account for 10% of his entire career rushing yards.

Everybody comparing Bo Jackson to random sacks of shit MLBers can go fuck themselves. I love stats, but stats can go fuck themselves in this instance too. Bo was above stats.

In 30 years, nobody will be remembering _insert_random _sack_of_shit_MLBer_mentioned_in_this_thread_ for their past jaw dropping plays.

He's not a HOFer, but it doesn't matter. He good.

TL/DR lots of people and stats can fuck their own holes.
