Oh man, who could've seen this coming!? Shocking turn of events
George should release a release date for his release date
Right after book 4 and him making the universe much bigger rather than tailoring it down, it was clear there's no way 8 books would be enough.
thread title is still true
I love that he was pushing the deadline up to the brink before the release of season 6 like 3+ years ago still saying he thinks he can complete it in time. I truly don't believe he's even touched it since then.
At this point I take pleasure in opening up sheeple’s eyes to the fact that this book is never happening.
The title should never change.
If Winds ever actually releases, then on the day it hits bookstores you can change it to "A Dream of Spring will never be finished, fuck you George Martin."
So he's not writing any more.
He probably sits down in front of his WordStar 4.0 a couple times a week, sighs deeply at the blinking courser for an hour and then calls it a day.
For your consideration
But I still want a different ending. Holding out hope that GRRM knew he wouldn't finish by the time the show ended (he'll never finish anyway) and gave the show a different ending than he'll write
What ending would you like
I haven't decided yet. Which one do you want?
The issue is that I think GRRM knew this was his only chance to actually get the end of the story out there. Unfortunately, it was not the best venue given the S4 and 5 stuff mentioned in the article (which was really worth reading). So now we have an imperfect idea of how the story goes, and probably the only way we will experience the ending. The stuff filling in the cracks will never be seen.
Basically, fuck GRRM.
I think the article let’s D&D off a little too easily, but I agree with most of it.
I truly believe they just got tired of doing GOT and were impatient to get started on Star Wars, so they mailed in the last couple seasons.
I don't think he really can. I mean, it's going to take at least one book to bring everyone together. Assuming the battle against the Others could be nearly an entire book. Wrapping up the king's landing arc.... doesn't matter really. Don't think we will ever even get the next book
Yeah I didnt want to say that part about them wanting out becuase it's too easy an attack. I wanted to put the blame on both them and George, equally and at different moments in the show's run.
But I do think they wanted to be done and moved on, which is insane considering how popular the show was/is
Frodo being unable to resist the One Ring makes sense though
Mother fuck this mother fucking mother fucker
Edit: same quote.
Or we’ll just kill you.
Thread was made 3.5 years ago.
Id argue there's not a single thread that has aged as well as this one on TMB, unfortunately
The title was changed at some point. Think I started it with winds of winter to be released in 2016
"The Winds of Winter is very late, I know I know, but it will be done. I wont say when, Ive tried that before only to burn you all and jinx myself..but I will finish it, and then will come A Dream of Spring."
Will the ending in the books be the same as the show:
"Well....yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes. I am working in a very different medium than David and Dan, never forget. There are characters who never made it onto the screen at all, and others who died in the show but still live in the books."
Fat fuck you
I’m about halfway through Fire and Blood (which I’m really enjoying), and think I’m going to start a re-read of the books after that.
Anyone else in the middle of or starting a re-read right now? I figure it’s a good time to re-orient myself in the book narrative now that the show is over. In the off chance WoW comes out in the next 12-18 months, it will also be relatively fresh in my mind for that, too, since it should take me a while to slog through (last time I read the books I had no kids and now I have two).
I just started a second read last night. Looking forward to a Jon with actual independent thoughts and multi-paragraph descriptions of feast spreads
I used to reread them as soon as I finished. A couple of years ago I tried and only made it a quarter of the way through the first one because I knew it was pointless. I would never read the last two books because I’d never get a chance.
I refuse to do a reread until the last book has a release date. Because I know I'll want to do it again at that point.
Will continue my read when the last book is on shelves
I’ve only read the books once. I’ve been waiting for the release date to be announced to reread.
So I’ll probably never reread
Ugh I'm halfway through Storm
I should have waited to reread when Winds came out, but there would still be another decade before Dance (if ever) so I guess it doesnt matter
I say this too but if WOW actually did come out(HA!) I would reread AFFC and ADWD chronologically and then WOW.
Yea if WOW came out I’d start over completely most likely
Went by used bookstore yesterday and pretty much all the books were out of stock save for a few ASoS and a couple AFfC
Those sweet summer children
George is working hard right now but in about a month he's going to get his next royalty check and oooh baby is he going to relax.
Another side project
Lot's of buzz on the subreddit about a TWOW announcement being imminent
I'll believe it when it happens.
even an announcement wouldn’t make me believe
A friend bet me twenty bucks they'll announce a release date before January. We've got a double or nothing that they'll miss the original announced release date.
Congrats on the $20
I had some friends that held out hope. I was able to beat them down to reality. I didn't think about making money off of them though. Good call.
I bet it comes out this year.
I honestly have completely moved on from this series. Between the travesty of seasons 7&8 and the fact GRRM has no interest in finishing the series, I honestly have lost all interest in book 6 or laughably 7.
there are so many good series of fantasy, and really good, younger and motivated authors, there’s just no reason to linger.
Was a fan for 21 years but I'm now in the same boat as you. Fuck that fucking fat fucking fuckhead. #bitter
Who are some of the better younger authors that you like?
Aside from Sanderson?
Orson Scott Card
Why would I ever buy Winds of Winter knowing the final book won't come out until 2030?
