Did you buy anything? I’m trying to reduce my wine inventory a bit and I have too many lists I’m on that I love so I’m avoiding other purchases. I did consider beef or other stuff but got too busy and forgot.
Grabbed a smaller lot from Sandlands than normal for the winter release. Two each of the carignane, trousseau, and assyrtiko.
LOL, went a little mad, which coincidently, is how the wife is feeling. 4 cases of stuff for around $3000. Main things I get every year are the cabs from Riverain, Saunter (love us some TRB) and Di Costanzo. Then I like taking a chance on some of the smaller producers they always have on there, just to support them. Of course, I also have some Pinots coming from Rivers-Marie and the box from Fingers Crossed, so I need to find somewhere to fit 60 bottles in the next few months. Guess I'd better start drinking.
This should be done with others but family life with kids is too hard so I did a comparison of 2019 Andremily and Saxum wines from G2 vineyard (Paso Robles Willow Creek District AVA). My preference is Andremily (former SQN winemaker that started up his winery with SQN contracts as SQN estate vineyards started to come online).
I bought this back in 2011 intending to have it for a friend’s going away dinner until the going away dinner changes to 15 people from 4. I finally opened it tonight.
'19 Clos des Boucheres was super dense, powerful and took about 45 minutes to start showing its stuff. MG 05 bourgogne rouge was ready to go from the moment we pulled the cork.
The Gramercy was better but I think the Waters may have aged a bit too long. I had another bottle of the same vintage in 2018. I remember loving it at the time and thinking I wanted to give this more time just to see where it went. In retrospect, I think 6-9 years is probably better than 12 years for Washington Syrah.
Ridiculous night at work. Very fun and informative vertical of 84-89 of Spottswoode, some palate cleansers, and then perhaps the best bottle of wine I've ever had.
I do love them as well but they've entered the pricing threshold where they're no longer (for me) stockable, weeknight/party wines. But that's life.
The '13 Cristal was definitely better but I'm also obsessed with that wine. This was my fifth bottle of it and maybe the best so far. For me, Salon needs so much more time than Cristal. I've had a few 02s that are in a perfect window right now. We opened a '96 Dom Perignon the other day and it's everything you want in mature champagne.
Popped my DRC cherry last night. 1995, 2001, 2006, 2012 all lights out. But even then, very glad I will never be in a position where I'm thinking of spending my own money on it. Also opened every vintage of Clos d'Ambonnay annnnnnd the greatest white Burg I've ever had.
Found a bottle I’d neglected and was worried about the age but it’s surprisingly good. The pear and floral notes are still there but a richer overall profile
Happy Father’s Day to those who celebrate. I bought this on auction a few years ago instead of buying the mandatory 3 bottle pack when I was invited off the wait list. It’s really good but I would balk at the current price, especially in a 3 bottle pack.
Does anyone have wine fridge suggestions? I’ve gotten a few nice bottles (for me) recently that I’d like to age for a bit. Nothing big. Maybe like 24 bottles?
2007 was such a great vintage in Napa. I’m still sitting on one bottle (Opus One) but thinking of drinking soon.
anybody got a preferred Napa wine tour driver business? never done the private drive you around and get sloshed on wine move but might do it
Buzzed in the airport and this thread just reminded me about wine fridges. I have lowballed someone on Offer Up who is selling a great unit. Asked them about it two weeks ago and still on sale.
Headed back to Napa late September. Anyone have any good recs for food or wineries? This is our third trip, looking for some new places to try.
If you want people to suggest new places to try, you might want to tell the thread where you’ve been.
Have visited as well. I went because the founder was one of the first big innovators in my profession and created the first ever arterial stent. Obviously he patented it and is richer than God now
Wine is just ok for the price point the property they have is second only to continuum of the places I’ve visited there
We’ve done Palmaz (stunning), Caymus, Opus, Ferrari Carano, Sebargi, the Castle place, V Satui, Cardinal and a few others. Did the Wine Train for the hell of it. I’m sure I forgot a few others.
Hunnicut has a really cool tasting room set in their wine cave continuum appears to be in your price point so book that for sure I really like b cellars wine and they have a pretty cool set up
Just returned from 10 days in Rome, Florence, Tuscany and Venice. Had way too many wines to list, but our favorite was the Vernaccia in San Gimignano. Also had an outstanding tasting dinner at Ai Gondolieri in Venice with wine pairing. Wines listed below (all outstanding). For anyone interested, I put the tasting menu in spoiler. - Prosecco Rebuli Valdobbiadene - Pinot Nero - Italo Cescon 2021 - Chardonnay Jermann 2023 - Nebbiolo Cordero di Montezemolo 2022 - Valpolicella Ripasso Torre D'Orti 2023 - Muffato della Sala Antinori 2019 Spoiler
