Yes. That's like 10 minutes east of me. New Underwood is where the radar is located...it's about 5 miles east of Ellsworth AFB. The stretch along I90 from Wall to Rapid is dreadful when there's wind and snow
It was -9 in Cincinnati on 12/23 and is going to be 56 on 12/30. Got a message from my son’s golf coach that several public courses are open.
We got solid rain and it froze the top soil like concrete. I can only imagine how bad it’s going to be to play. Can probably not worry about any water hazards though, as long as he can get a clear shot off the ice.
Its been right at 33 all day. Supposed to dip below freezing sometime after 7 but only getting down to mid 20s. It'll depend on how long it hangs out as freezing rain before changing over to snow.
I remember driving up to Crater Lake and towards the top of the road the snow seemed like it was 20' high perfectly cut along the sides of the roads. Growing up in a desert that just seemed baffling.
I have no idea what is a normal snow pack or reservoir level for California, but we flew in and out of Fresno to do Sequoia and Yosemite in June 2022. The lake/reservoir we had to pass to get into Sequoia was incredibly low, like trees growing in it low, with a bath tub ring that looked incredibly high in comparison. Hopefully, this helps the drought.
Lake Tahoe already has an absurd amount of snow. I want to say the first week of December some of the resorts had gotten 7 feet of snow then.
Atmospheric River These meteorologists are just making shit up at this point So, it still hasn't stopped snowing since early December in California
I don’t live out west, but it seems like the snow pack is the most significant positive development. My understanding is that the melt provides reservoirs with additional water into late June.
I'm guessing we need several years of this to get back to square one, but yeah this should help. Tahoe has already passed their average seasonal snowfall total after some draught years.
18" would be the 4th biggest snowstorm in Minneapolis history, and this event is expected to easily clear the February event record for snowfall, which is 13.8".
