Yea I’ll post in there in a little bit. It’s one of the easiest things ever to do.

Looking at your fan of section, are you anywhere between Auburn and Charlotte? If so, I can bring you some to try next time I’m up that way.

Currently building a rabbit hutch. Going to surprise our girls with it and a pair of bunny's on Easter.

While the hutch was being built, we had originally kept the rabbits in a wire dog kennel above the barn. When I went to check on the rabbits, this is what I found:

Took a while to catch them.

"Need" to buy a table saw, I've been borrowing a friends heavy, old-ass craftsman but he needs it for a project and I wasn't too sad to see it go because the fence and mitre functionality was poor.

    Looking at this one:

    Kobalt 15-Amp 10-in Carbide-Tipped Table Saw

Reviews look good, price is right and I like that it's easy put up and fold away... My wife and I will primarily be using it for small projects so just wondering if anyone has experience?

I've never bought anything Kobalt and I'm not looking to spend a lot of money but if it's a piece a junk, I guess the next step is a Dewalt or Ridgid....

MoJo don't have the table saw, but own a couple of Kobalt pieces, and have never had any complaints.

I'd shop around this weekend. Should be some good deals floating around places like Sears, etc.

We have had (3) portable Ridgids at work, and they get top marks in my book. The rolling stand is the tits, though it takes a bit to get the thing assembled. It may be more than you need, depending on your definition of "small projects". There are some bench top table saws that are pretty good. I owned a Makita for years that was an 8-1/4" blade size, and it might be better suited. It would rip 2x lumber just fine, and was better than the new 10" saws for some tasks. It didn't have a cool rolly stand though.

I made my mother in law a shelf for mother’s day. Fairly simple project except the location was right over her sink and in between cabinets. Used a router to give it a nice finish on the front side. I would’ve liked to have placed it lower so you can appreciate the wood grain but that was the height she wanted for her orchids above and giant tea container below.

    First of four coats:

For those that care, this is the same mother in law from this post:

So my mother in law is a very large woman.

She has the self-control of a toddler when it comes to eating. About 10 years ago my wife and I lived with her parents for a few months. I had a box of Little Debbie oatmeal pies unopened.

I came home one day and she looked like a vulture over a dead carcass, ravenous, a mouth full of my pastries, wrappers everywhere. She muffled an apology as crumbs fell from her mouth. She couldn’t help but eat my cookies without asking.

Fast forward to the other day I set a trap. I bought some chocolate donuts and placed them on the counter right when you walk in the door. Looked like this sans the clutter:

She walks in and it’s just me, my MIL and FIL. She immediately eyes the donuts as if she has a pastry radar. As she walks past her head and eyes remain focused on the donuts as she looks the bag up and down. You can see the salivating temptation, like an itch she can’t wait to scratch. I stay near the donuts for about 10 minutes so she can’t sneak one in behind my back. Then, I make my move, I let them know I’m going to walk down and get the mail (that’s a good walk and they know it). I exit into the garage leaving the door ever so slightly ajar and stay just on the other side. I immediately hear my MIL barking at her husband to get her the donut bag. I wait about 15 seconds then spring back in the house. She looks guilty as hell, chocolate on her lips. Donut(s) in mouth. I give a surprise look but deep down I’m filled with joy watching her feel guilty once again for eating my pastries.

This project did create some drama of course. MY mom found out that I made my MIL a shelf for mother’s day and nothing for her. She was pretty crushed.

So my bff's brother recently picked up a farmhouse style table for their dining room. It didn't come with any chairs so it is just sitting there right now. He is self admittedly not really handy. I was talking about building a table and his wife mentioned they needed some benches for the table!

So on the way home I did a little searching and found some plans for some farmhouse style benches. I sent it to him and asked if he wanted to build her some? He loved the idea and decided they would be her V Day gift. So for the past week after work, we have been working on these. We only spent a couple hours a couple nights and finished construction on Sunday.

Here they are stacked up in my garage.

We put the first coat of stain on last night and are going to add a second coat tonight. We are going to deliver them tomorrow night and he will probably put another coat and a coat of poly at some point over the weekend.

So far I couldn't be more pleased with how they turned out.

Regular caulking is generally plenty since it's so heavy. That's all countertops are secured with.

It’s probably fine but I’d recommend clear silicone actually as sometimes the stone absorbs any colors or dyes from the caulking.

What type of stain are you using? The reason I’m asking is if it’s not the type of stain with poly mixed in then you’re gonna need more than one coat of poly as that first coat is gonna soak in too much and it won’t be an even finish across the surface. Also what type of wood did you use? Because you typically shouldn’t need more than 2 coats of stain.

You are a rockstar and thank you for the input. I haven't looked at the stain as the bff's brother bought it. He is going to take it home and do the Poly this weekend I think. I will check the stain tonight and see if it has a poly in it.

As mentioned above, I am looking at doing a sofa table as well, and will be staining this too. The main wood used has been white pine.

    Thanks again for the input.

Not that it matter now but did you use sanding sealer?

Its a sealer that you sand down after application. It’s an optional step before staining that helps fill the pores of the wood in porous wood. It ensures a more even staining and top coat.

Nope we didn't use that but I will for the next piece I am building. Thanks for the tip.

I checked the stain and it is an exterior stain (no clue why) and it says "Stain + Sealant". I am assuming that includes a poly or is that more for an exterior sealant for water?

    Thanks again for the tips.

Clearly says for decks, fences, and sidings. It doesn't say for farmhouse benches, sorry THF you will have to rebuild them and use the proper stain and poly.

It’s a similar style. We ordered a new sectional and there is a large window behind the back left side. We just need something behind the sofa and between the window. It will basically be for lamps and pictures.

Wish had the skill to make anything useful. My non existent skillset limits me to maintenance like replacing a few boards on deck and fixing the fence.

My grandpa made a couple really nice grandfather clocks. My mom is downsizing and is giving me the oak one I've always liked. My sister already has a cherry one.

Left door does not open all the way, maybe 1/2way. My MIL was aware of this from the beginning. I advised her a single large door would be better but she was adamant about a double.

Rail was $90. Middle of the range on amazon for a double door rail mount.
