Sorry, no hostility ment just thought it was an odd suggestion at first to see someone suggest you plane your pressure treated pine picnic table then realized it was so he could (in his mind) brag about being some purist hipster only using hand tools
I wouldn't say I'm a purist or hipster. I'd say that I don't have hundreds of extra dollars laying around to buy a planer or jointer. Just offering up a $20 solution as opposed to a $200 solution.
Bought a DeWalt bench top planer abiut a month ago and haven't used it yet. Have a couple cherry slabs I think will be the first boards to go through
My wife's first Mother's Day is next weekend. I've decided to try and carve the newborn footprints from the hospital in to some mahogany I have laying around then inlay them in rough-cut alder. Maybe finish it with some tongue oil. Pretty ambitious for one weeks worth of time while helping to care for a one month old newborn.
I've got a garage full of molding and doors I'm staining for the house currently so I'm already expected to be in there doing stuff all weekend.
Well look at this thread... I just started refurbishing furniture when I was buying new shit for our new house. I picked up some older furniture to clean it up and paint it. I ended up finding this antique armoire on accident that I didn't even need for $75. I cleaned it up really nicely and sold it for $450 a week later. So I'm now into hustling furniture. I've got a guy at work who's been doing wood work for 30 years as a hobby. He's got a shop at his house. I'm pretty excited to learn how to build some cool shit.
About to pick up the hutch and the cabinet. https://jacksonville.craigslist.org/fuo/6106323042.html Not sure whether to clean them up really nicely and re-sell or to pant them.
Built the Ana White 2x4 bench from a few pages back today. Spoiler Will be building the sectional piece to go with it the next time I have a free afternoon.
Does anyone live even remotely close to Orlando? I'm not good enough to do some of the stuff I need to get done and was hoping to hire someone.
Fairly easy depending onthe style you are wanting to build. Built one for a buddy that had a couple cut outs on the top for beer trays
I think there is a market for Wood Business signs. Custom built to your need. I'm sure there is already a website, but not that I saw.
I need to stain some pressure treated adirondack furniture I recently purchased. Any products in particular I need to use or stay away from?
Good timing. Just finished up this project that the wife requested. Getting the numerals taped up so the original wood grain would remain after painting was a bit of a bitch.
My dad was an electrician and he would bring these wire spools home for my brother and I to play with. We would walk on them like log rollers, over concrete, not a helmet to be found. Pops would watch my bro and I compete while drinking a cold beer and smiling.
Hi, please post pics - I've been thinking of doing this myself. Biggest hindrance is needing to cut off the wrought iron rails in place now.
As soon as I get the railing finished up I'll get pics. It was really pretty simple. It was a 6" slab. 2x8's around the 3 sides, hung with 2 3/4" tapcons. 2x4 joists laid on their side also tapcon'd to the top of the slab and ran my deck boards across. Covered the steps by hanging 2x4's along both sides of the step. 36" wide steps became 39". 3 deck boards deep across, screws into the 2x4s. Hung the toe-kick boards into the front of the 2x4's. Rail is just square spindles, screwed into the deck board and rim joists and round timbers for corner posts. Topped with a flat horizontal hand rail.
You get a like for the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Not the leveling. I'll trust you that it's level though.
Gonna need a close up of a level on that to believe it's level. Shit slopes like 2 inches. It looks good though.
I feel like his work might be level, but his house isn't. Go put a marble on the floor of your house and tell me it doesn't roll to the other side.
Somebody once asked me "do you want this level with your house or the Earth?" Didn't know the difference at first.
A co-worker cut down this birch tree and cut it into section for people to have. Getting a couple to turn into tables.
I just went for a walk without my phone for pics, but I'll go back later. There is a big ass tree a few blocks over and it's like all burl. Not sure what it is, most likely oak. I want to ask the owner if I can have his tree.
