Time for the World Cup. This will be my 1st year EVER betting on the World Cup so I am really interested to see how this goes. I have been betting Soccer for 2 years now so I think I understand how to bet it. I am not saying that I know all the players and know all the teams but I find out Soccer is a good sport to bet on with the right research. I usually try to start betting on soccer around January because that way I can see how the teams are doing that season because I probably know 60-65% of what most of you guys know. So betting the World Cup is going to be very interesting because I basically have information about how the teams are. But the few little stats that I do have, I feel like I can get a good feeling how it will turn out. South Africa vs. Mexico Well these odds seem very odd. Mexico is CLEARLY the better team here. Mexico being ranked #17 in the FIFA World Rankings & South Africa being ranked #83 in the FIFA World Rankings. That is a major difference but I think the factor that South Africa is hosting the tournament is helping in the Odds department. These 2 countries have played each 3 times in their lifetime. In 1993, Mexico beat South Africa 4-0 in a Friendly game in Los Angeles. In 2000, they beat them again 4-2 in a Friendly this time being in Dallas. Close to 5 years ago South Africa changed the tides and beat Mexico 2-1 in Los Angeles in the Continetal Finals. This Calendar year though, South Africa has not lost. They are 6-0-2 since January 1st. 6 Days ago they had a nice win against a #36 Denmark Team and a little over a week before that, they tied the #39 Bulgaria team. Mexicos record this Calendar year is 8-2-0. Now those records there might lead you to believe that South Africa might be the better team but when you look at who Mexico has played you would understand. 8 Days ago they beat the #5 team in Italy in a Friendly and their two loses have come to the #4 Netherlands & #8 England teams. I like this Mexico team to come out and especially getting a PICK would make it a PUSH/Tie/Cancel Bet. Well I feel like I was shafted there. One of the all time worse calls in sports by calling it offsides. But then I was lucky because South Africa looked good. Theres a difference tho. If you would have bet that, a tie would lose. I bet the spread so I got a PUSH on it.
France vs. Uruguay When I first saw the odds. I loved France. Mostly because I know more about France than Uruguay. Then reading up on this game I noticed this game was ALOT closer than I first thought. France ranked #9 in the Current FIFA Rankings & Uruguay being ranked #16 in the Current Rankings. Looking at how France has done so far this year, it is pretty bad. A 1-2-1 record tying the #55 Tunisia team, losing to the #2 Spain team & #84 China team. Can't say I agree with a few of these, honestly. Argentina needs a draw to win the group and I can't see them risking injury and playing for a blowout if they get a lead. I'm thinking you'll push on that one but have a better chance of losing than winning. France and South Africa are both eliminated if they don't score at least 2-3 goals. I can see that game being very open and pretty high paced. The Uruguay pick is an interesting one because both teams will advance with a draw, but Mexico will be on the attack slightly more since a draw will give Uruguay the group win and avoid Argentina. I believe that has the makings of a 0-0 draw or a 1-0 win, more likely than not coming from Mexico. So that's another one more I think you'll dangerously push or lose. Good luck though.
