Well, Thursday is decision day. It'll be televised live on FSC (and I'm sure plenty of streams) starting at 9:30 am est. The country that receives the least amount of votes in each round is eliminated until the winner is decided. 2018 Bids Belgium/Netherlands joint bid England Portugal/Spain joint bid Russia 2022 Bids Australia Japan Qatar South Korea
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread Also BBC's show Panorama (their version of 60 minutes) had a reports about 3 FIFA officials taking bribes from a marketing company which of course FIFA denied....dont know how that will affect the "decision" Thursday. Seriously this is FIFA we are talking about I can see anything happening.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread I can't believe Wahl has Qatar at 9/4 odds. Thought they were much more of a longshot.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread Be interesting to see who's actually favored. I've heard Qatar and I've heard Australia as well as the USA. I think everybody agrees those are the three big contenders. Korea and Japan seem awfully unlikely, considering they both co-hosted recently. Qatar is tossing around cash like it's free, at everybody, and rumors persist they're actually in collusion with Spain. Australia is playing up the Asian angle...though this could backfire since when they say "Asia" what they really mean is "China" and China could be putting its own bid up in 2026. If Australia gets it, China cannot host 2022. Spain, Russia, and England seem like they're all in the running for 2018. I hope we're not about to be voted off the island. We have the strongest bid, but we're playing politics here...and that sometimes means you're the one everybody else votes off first.

Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread Also here is an article about the BBC show I was telling you about: http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/30112010/58/world-cup-fifa-dismisses-panorama-allegation.html
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread would love to get this i'm going to brazil in 2014 for sure Tallahassee could hold a World Cup by itself
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread This article also says that the US got a 100 percent grade for 2022.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread Really don't see any way in which England doesn't get the bid. OTOH, I'm resigned to the fact that we're not going to get the bid, the same as the US re-signing Bob Bradley.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread It is England. The media over there has been trying to fuck up the bid every possible way.

Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread Russian PM Putin to snub vote December 1, 2010 * Email * Print By ESPNsoccernet staff Russia's hopes of winning the right to host the 2018 World Cup finals have been hit by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's decision not to travel for the vote because he does not want to be involved in "unfair competition". Bloomberg journalist Tariq Panja on the vote • Becks bullish as vote nears • Brewin: Principles kept • Adams: The contenders profiled • Blog: The Greatest Show on Earth • Blog: Russia will win 2018 bid Speculation early on Monday suggested Putin had pulled out of the final stages of lobbying in Zurich, where he was expected to attend as a figurehead of the government and play a crucial part in the bid's campaign. Russia are sending First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov in his place. Putin was missing from the official list of speakers before he confirmed to ministers in Russia that he will remain at home as the clock ticks down to the decision, which is due to be announced at around 1500 GMT on Thursday. The Russian premier has blamed a smear campaign for his refusal to travel, which has been interpreted as a criticism of the BBC's Panorama programme which accused three FIFA executive committee members of taking bribes. "I view that as unfair competition," Putin said. "Such methods we consider to be absolutely inadmissible. Recently we have unfortunately seen a clear campaign against members of the FIFA executive committee." The Russians have been long-term favourites to come out on top, just ahead of England and Spain/Portugal. Netherlands/Belgium is considered to be a long outside bet to host in 2018. Putin will be the only head of government from the 2018 bidding nations not to be present. "I would love to represent our entry in person," he told ministers in Moscow. "However, under these circumstances, I think it would be best not to go out of respect for the members of the FIFA executive committee, so that they can make their decision in peace and without any outside pressure."
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread What a surprise, FIFA cheating like little bitches. They won't do anything about this and I'm sure it's going to be England and Qatar with 2026 going to Australia/China.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/bidders/live/index.html lol morgan freeman and bill clinton are there lol
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread Blatter just about blew his load when he read Morgan Freeman's name.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread It probably will be Qatar even though people won't be outside at all in that heat and local businesses won't be any better off than if there weren't a world cup there. They sound like they're trying to be the UAE. It's going to be awful having all of the stadiums so close to each other and making players essentially share facilities. It'll be miserable for the fans.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread Qatar may be able to get the stadiums cool but imagine all those people who show up unprepared for the heat. I also though FIFA was trying to work towards better fiscal responsibility, seems like the Qatar bid would be ridiculously out of control. Average highs Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep 90 100 106 115 111 106 And who plans on being at the games? 1.6 million people total in the country? I guess they plan on the 27 million in Saudi Arabia to fill up the stadiums. And just think, I highly doubt we get to see these girls showing off the goods in a country like Qatar
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread How is Morgan Freeman? The dude might not be alive in 12 years but still out there helping us with this. If undecided voters aren't swayed by Morgan Freeman's voice, then fuck 'em all.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread How is Qatar even being considered? Don't have minimum population FIFA requirements and don't have minimum wc soccer ranking. This is fucking bullshit. If we don't win this then I'm gonna freak out. Fucking cheating FIFA faggots.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread Yep, their national team lost to fucking Haiti a couple weeks back. I'll be very disappointed if we don't get 2022, but I understand if Australia gets it, but if Qatar wins, then
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread Should be part of the U.S.'s bid that Sweden and Denmark get automatic qualification if we're named hosts.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread Not to mention qatar's population number fluctuation. 2006 - 885,359 2007 - 1,207,229 2008 - 1,524,789 2009 - 1,309,000 The fuck is that shit? Something is wrong if you lose 15% of your population in 1 year.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread Would guess that they are including workers. They have had a ton of long term cheap labor living there from pakistan and india in what was basically indentured servitude.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread FIFA likes the US because it makes the most money, and they only care about money.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread Qatar is willing to go in debt up to their eyeballs to finance their bid. We're underestimating the amount of money they generate from oil.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread I hate how everyone is an expert today. I see one site saying we've all but locked up the bid while espn is riding Qatar's oiled up cock down the home stretch. Espn also thinks Russia is the clear favorite for 2018. This is getting old.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread I doubt Qatar can handle the WC. No way in hell I would go watch the WC there, too volatile of a region for me right now.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread Qatar will have AC in the stadiums so that wont be an issue, still a turrible bid that would make me really upset if they got it. Id love for us to win it but I dont see it happening. ATM Im calling England and Australia
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread The stadiums will be cooled, but what about practice facilities? The players will be subject to the heat then, and all of the fans that aren't used to it won't be able to get out and do things. Their hospital would record a world record number of heat strokes.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread See, they're talking about all of the stadiums (or at least almost all of them) being within a 38 km (or ~23 miles) radius. Their can't possibly be enough real estate to erect enough hotels, restaurants, and individual training grounds. The only benefit I see is having everything so close. But that comes at the cost of a lot of congestion. I'm sure they're touting that as easy transit around the event, but transit is going to be a clusterfuck if you have 1-2 million extra people in a country. Especially considering that will effectively double the population of Qatar for a month. I just don't see how the fuck they can be considered the favorites.
Re: World Cup Bid Decision Thread you said erect. Arab Money does amazing things. If it was the UAE trying to get the bid; I would not be shocked but no way Qatar.
