Juan Gonzalez won an MVP in the mid 90's with like a 3 WAR iirc
Didn't Dennis Eckersley win one too at one point? I remember reading that that one was really bad.
Derek Anderson for the browns
Dirk's win shares per 48 during his MVP year rank 16th for all NBA MVP seasons. Dave Cowens owns the record for fewest win shares per 48 for an NBA MVP.
His 1 seed team lost an 8 seed, clearly not a great MVP. Duh doy.
Should have been Griffey's MVP.
Or A-Rod. They both had ridiculous years.
Rich Gannon 2002
MVP awards are based on the regular season. What happens in the post season is irrelevant.
Fuck you guys
American League - Justin Morneu
National League - Ryan Howard
NBA - Derrick Rose
NFL - Cam Newton
Steve Nash. Product of the system and an absolutely horrific defender. Jason Kidd was far superior.
Can we extend this to Coach of the Year? Because Jim Grobe won a national coach of the year award in college football.
We already have enough Jabril Peppers threads.
Most recently Andre Iguodala
If we count the Heisman as an MVP, then Gino Torreta takes the cake.
He won the ACC with Wake Forest, that was deserved.
The ACC in 2006 was garbage and Jim Grobe is not a good coach. We could also go with Ralph Friedgen winning a COY.
Jalen Hurts 2016 SEC OPOY
Corey Perry for the Anaheim Ducks
are you saying in general or the year they won? because Ryan Howard in 2006 might not have been the best player in the NL but he still had a great year.
I interpreted the question to be the worst players historically with an MVP on their resumes.
brian kelly winning two COY
you were garbage in 2006
I know it's outside of the range, but Gibson in '88 was pretty awful.
Seconded on Rose too. If you look at the past 30 years of the MVP in the NBA, Rose may be the only one who hasn't/won't make the HoF.
Kept Bonds from 4 in a row iirc.
Injury has a lot to do w that
Re-reading the title now I now I probably misinterpreted the question. I thought it to mean the least deserving MVP in a given year.
Kirk Gibon's career fWAR - 35.9
Ryan Howard's career fWAR - 19.4
Pendleton is in between the two. Ken Caminiti was in the Gibson range, as well.
Rose or Nash
No surprise that a huge joke league would allow those two to win MVP
Rose over lebron in 2010 and Nash over Shaq in 2005
This has to be a horrible attempt at a joke... Either that or you don't watch basketball.
This is the correct answer
Great choice. Don't think he even made the all-star team that year
Rose had that injury. I think he would have been pretty good. But that MVP is still trash.
Dirk in 07 looks worse after he got booted but he had a great year
Was that the year Jordan won the DPOY and led the league in scoring?
