Please go ahead and quote this post you nutjob. I can't think of anyone ever saying Teasdale sucks because he obviously does not. And for the record, he needed a reversal and rideout with 20 seconds left to win.
Yeah I think everyone imagined he would win, as he should. We've been pretty lucky to see some of the talent we have
I guess you could call this a golden age of collegiate wrestling. Over the past several years guys like Dake, Taylor, Ruth, Snyder, Zain, Nolf, Steiber, and a few others will be considered all time greats.
Golden Age of American Wrestling, period(well, except Greco because we suck ass). World Team Freestyle title, all time US greats like Snyder, Burroughs and the deepest roster of young world level guys I can remember. Kind of remarkable, given where the sport was in the US about a decade ago(those years around and including the 08 Olympics were pretty rough). Great shape going forward, even with all time greats like Zain and Snyder leaving. Nolf, Joseph, Zahid and Mark Hall(seriously, one of those guys might only win 1 title, which is nuts) and now Spencer Lee/Yianni, etc.
As much as I love the OSU guys and what Snyder does internationally I think JB bouncing back to win gold in 2017 might have been my favorite thing of the last year. Snyder over Sadulaev is hard to top though
Yeah, Snyder vs Sadulaev was the single match of the year but the whole run of Burroughs after Rio was awesome. Struggled, nearly lost his spot to Dake, then came back and looked damn near the Burroughs of '11, '12, '13 in winning over a tough field.
For me it was Snyder. The guy just goes in to every tourney and finds a way to kick ass. Beating a Russian in Russia, no problem. Beating a hvwt that outweighs him by 50lbs, fuck it, I'll find a away. One of the all time greats and I don't say this lightly, with a legit chance to be the greatest US wrestler ever. He wins another gold medal, I think it's pretty much a non argument.
Post doesn't even mention Gable Steveson or Daton Fix. Gable Steveson is going to be the favorite at HWT as a true freshman with Snyder and Coon gone. Daton Fix is going to be a finalist as a RS FR as well. Fix and Lee is going to be one of the all time great domestic rivalries in both folkstyle and freestyle.
There were some amazing moments last year. Non-American best moment for me was Taha Akgul-Geno Petriashvili gold medal match. I started out thinking Petriashvili had no chance, then thought Akgul had no chance, then I thought Akgul was going to win for sure...don't see matches like that at HWT usually.
It might have been mentioned already, but Gable Steveson is wrestling at the Farrell next week. Farrell winners get WTT births. Looks like Gable is gunning for Gwiz's spot THIS year as a HS SR. Also 61kg is gonna be lit and we're going to find out who the favorite is at the most tumultuous weight class. Colon, Graff, Waters, Seth Gross, Cory Clark, C Dardanes....Whoever wins the Farrell is the favorite in my eyes.
Jordan Burroughs is way closer to GOAT status than Kyle Snyder IMO. If Burroughs wins in 2018 or 2019 and in 2020 he gets the title.
1 also has about 10 more chances for world titles if he chooses and the other has only a few years left.
If anyone is interested, Mark Hall is streaming Fortnite with Bo Pipher, Nick Lee, and Gable Steveson on his squad. I have only watched Fortnite once when Drake and Travis Scott played with JuJu Smith Schuster, but maybe this meets two interests for someone else
Different weights now. Think if they were even weight, Logan would have an advantage on his feet but would have tons of problems if Zain got on top of him.
They are the same weight. They will likely be wrestling against each other in four weeks at the Open.
If Steiber and Zain were both college seniors wrestling folk I think Zain overpowers him and wins something like 6-3. The open will be very interesting. Steiber has an advantage right now with being a full time freestyle guy. I think after a year of full time freestyle under his belt Zain erases that advantage and is the guy moving forward.
Statement was about their senior years and was 141 v 149 but was definitely taking into account where they are now. He seems to like the lower weight at 61 but also looks like he's starving himself to be there.
This was discussed ad nauseam last year and it's pretty much agreed that this is not the case. Think about all the full time folk guys that have made huge impacts internationally lately. Snyder, Cox, Gilman, Zain...Gilman hadn't wrestled FS in years and he won a world silver medal. The full time FS thing is overrated. Anyway, it's going to be awesome. I think it will be a 12-11 type match. I'll take Zain I guess. I see them wrestling again at WTT.
UWW changed the format entirely. World's will be wrestled over the course of two days with same day weigh ins now. Tons of guys are going to be bumping up. Stieber is at 65kg now and will be there for this quad and the rest of his career unless they change the rules/weight classes again. So Stieber/Zain is officially a storyline for the next few years.
Steiber is better on his feet than Zain. I like Steiber to be honest. IMO, when they are both locked in, Steiber is better. Zain also can start to finally bulk up and the make the cuts which will only help him. He was never a 'big' 149 and rarely had to cut. But then again, most PSU wrestlers barely have to cut, that's Cael's way. It's also why you see different 'types' of Cenzo. When he's up and down on his weight, you can get him in a tourney or dual or whatnot. You can see it in his body. Not by accident he was in his best shape at nationals.
No one in America is as good offensively from their feet as Stieber. The problem is literally everything else. He gets taken down a lot, he gets turned regularly by guys with good guts, and while he's good-by-american standards par terre offense, he's not a beast or anything. Freestyle doesn't play into Zain's strengths. You have a limited amount of time to expose your opponent. I think where Zain's biggest advantage comes internationally is that he's probably giving you a lot of different looks on top outside of the standard gut wrench and leg lace. I know he likes going to that bow and arrow regularly even in FS and has seen some success with it, even if he couldn't turn Batirov with it. He's obviously a monster from neutral but that's certainly not his best position. KeShawn Hayes technically won the takedown battle 2-0 at the dual meet (Zain did have a reversal). In terms of the seemingly inevitable Stieber match(es), we're going to see a lot of points. They are both going to get to each other's legs, they will both get multiple takedowns. We will see how Stieber looks in a couple weeks in Iowa City then I'll make an official match prediction, but that is probably my most anticipated match of the year.
Burroughs and Smith are also great choices but... Smith was a 2x NCAA champion, 1x runner up and lost 7x in college and tied another 2x. Yes, he has won 6 world titles and 2 Olympic Golds. Unreal. Burroughs lost 20x in college and won 2 titles, not placing his frosh year. He has 5x world titles and 1 Olympic Gold. Snyder at just 22 already has: 3x NCAA champ, 1x runner up and lost 5x, beating a 2x NCAA champion with an 88 match winning streak for his first title while wrestling at a huge weight disadvantage. Snyder has already won 3x world titles and 1 Olympic Gold Even if Burroughs repeated for world golds and another Olympic Gold, he still has to overcome 20x losses in college IMO and not even placing as a frosh as well as bombing out of an Olympics going 1-2. Snyder is already a better collegiate wrestler than either Smith or Burroughs, that's just a fact and he will simply just tick off world tittles until he's ready to retire. So it's all semantics but in combining folk and free, Snyder is deserving after a couple of more worlds and another Olympic Gold.
You had Tom Ryan trying to make an argument for Snyder being the best college wrestler of all time after nationals.
Semantics, but if you add in Snyder's international wrestling accomplishments 'while in college' then yes, he probably is. If are are talking about just being the best 'collegiate wrestler', ie just folkstyle wrestling, then that simply isn't true.
http://wvmetronews.com/2018/03/28/henson-fired-after-4-seasons-as-west-virginia-wrestling-coach/ Sammie Henson fired at wvu
Not really. If you haven't noticed, WVU kind of stinks relative to the amount of resources the program has at its disposal. They need to make a splash hire though. Someone who can keep Braxton Amos in-state, or at the very least the Louden Haga's of the world.
He did not intend to go his back. That pin was about being comfortable wrestling from any position and being instinctually wired to run through that sequence. It’s also poor wrestling from Martin. Not a lot of guys are comfortable from their back. The move itself and sequence is something you’d learn in elementary school. It also something that should not be happening in a NCAA final. It’s a great thing to do in practice to piss your teammates off and it looks cool for the casual fan, but I guarantee you Cael was none too pleased save for the result.
Not sure what being the best collegiate wrestler gets you exactly. Kudos and rep for sure, but ultimately it’s about the world championships and olympics. Snyder has had an amazing career thus far, and it will be interesting to see how he performs going forward. Dave Schultz has always been my favorite because he was also a very talented Greco-wrestler and of course taking 2nd Tblisli while in high school was ridiculous.
I am, but the administration has been committed to fielding a winning team, and it sure seems like they're moving backwards right now. Injuries played a big part with Moisey and Smith, but what else do they have going for them? They got embarrassed by Utah Valley and needed a med forfeit to beat Air Force. They need someone who can make them a winner, they have the pieces there.
We moved up 26 spots this year at the NCAA tourney from the previous year. Not sure how that’s moving backwards
So, no Iran, Turkey and possibly no Russia for the World Cup in Iowa. Yuck, only Azerbaijan even a reasonable threat at this point
