Jordan now garnering bi-partisan support in his innocence. If there is one thing DiSabato is good for it is bringing the Democrats and Republicans together. The sad part of all this is the attempt to fracture the wrestling community for alternative political purposes. Glad to see it backfire.
I guess this is the new formula now with Anthony Ralph, but I hope they didn't give him a sizable scholarship allotment. I am fully aboard the 2020 Braxton Amos train at heavyweight. Nice pickup though.
What weight is AJ Ferrari? Ryan and Tervel are always liking his shit on twitter, significantly more than any other recruit from what I've seen.
They've been recruiting him for a long time. His dad is really involved with the recruiting process and just his kids lives in general which I suppose is not necessarily a bad thing. He wrestles at 195 in season but just won a world bronze at 203. He is very likely a 197 in college. Braxton Amos in the same class (2020) is a 197/285, but I think he is a heavy for sure. AJ's little brother is an incoming freshman (2022) and also a blue chip prospect, so we're very likely looking at a 2-for-1 deal here.
Biggest takeaway from Fargo so far is that Anthony Cassioppi is going to be a beast for Iowa. Yes he teched Mason Parris in the semis and made it look easy, but perhaps more impressive to me was his quarterfinal match. Right off the whistle he picks the kid up, drops him on his head and pins him. Officially it was 11 seconds, but it was more like 8 seconds in reality. That's a fargo quarterfinal dude, slow down. If Stoll can't go this year, maybe Cassioppi steps right in? On the cadet side, the guys who looked the best to me were Carson Manville, Joshua Edmond, Nicolar Rivera, and Luke Stout. Manville and Edmond wrestled at Fargo last year now Manville is a couple weight classes bigger. All those guys are definitely ones to look out for in the future. Manville and Edmond especially. Junior side, like I said Cassioppi is the biggest story so far. Kharchla beating world bronze Travis Wittlake was an eye opener. He didn't give up a point the entire tourney until Wittlake, and I believe the takedowns he gave up were both late when he had a big lead (was up 7-0 early and ended up winning 7-4 after turtling). He wrestles #1 Dustin Plott today--that's a big match and potential preview for WNO if Kharchla wins. Eric Barnett at 120 is a good one. He gets to work with McDonaugh and Bono and Askren at Wisconsin, he's going to be a dude at 125 in the B1G. Aden Reeves also went through a ton to get to the finals, that's a match I'm really looking forward to. 120 was stacked. Ridge Lovett from Idaho beat Beau Bartlett and Dylan D'Emilio to make the finals against Jordan Decatur. If he beats those three to win a stop sign, oh my. Brayton Lee is doing Brayton Lee things.
He's kinda gotten a raw deal in terms of opponents in his era. He was matched against Cael in college, Gatsalov internationally, and Jon Jones in the UFC. All are legends.
MMA people and UFC people would probably say it’s irrelevant but after watching the 2001 NC match it’s pretty cool. That is knowing what I know now.
This is what I think as well. Nickal looked big in that pic posted the other day. Apparently Cassar is 220
NN still claims he’ll be ready by the fall and it is minor so we’ll see if this is some kind of “gamesmanship” or what not.
Cadet Greco world champ Colton Schultz (current #1 overall 2019 kid, don't think he ends up there) just committed to Arizona State. vander02
Was wondering about the HW situation going forward so this is pretty huge, even if he isn't really the #1 overall
Kerkvilet back on the market. Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Oklahoma State. We have Singletary and Penn State has Nevills, not sure if he's afraid of either of those though.
Wow just saw this. When I alluded to Colton Schultz being #1 but not finishing #1, DG Kerkvliet was the reason why. Whichever school gets him is going to be very happy with their HWT. Sure hope it's OSU, but OKST still makes the most sense to me, and then Nebraska.
I think PSU and OSU are the only schools that can provide what he's looking for in training partners/support for the long haul.
Nebraska has Dom Bradley which is probably the best partner on any of the teams listed outside of Kyle Snyder. OSU has Snyder, Moore, Singletary, and I guess Tervel counts. OKST has Derek White and Preston Weigel and probably others I am forgetting. Dunno if Marsden is still there. PSU has Nevills and Cassar and Gwiz trains there sometimes.
I think you’re taking training partner too literal. Nobody goes to Dom Bradley to become a world champ. You might consider Cael and Varner.
Most of the US wrestlers are kicking some butt today. Edit: 3 in the finals, Gilman, Burroughs, Taylor Snyder going for bronze Steiber is out
Aslanbek Alborov, Azeri Bronze medalist from 2017. He's beat Snyder twice now(2-2 overall record vs Snyder) and he beat Sharif Sharifov earlier in the tournament, the other potential Azeri rep at worlds. He's legit, one of the best bigs in the world
Rough day for the squad so far today Green and Garrett eliminated. Cox needs Turkey to make the finals to be pulled in to repechage. Edit: Gwiz will wrestle for Bronze tomorrow. Dake still Dake tho Finals for other 5 weight classes start ~ 10:30 am ET
Aren't many, if anyone really, that have had a better season this year so far. Excited to see him finally take a bow at worlds. Yazdanichirati and Naifonov(if he is even the Russian rep) will have plenty to say about it, but can't help feeling like it's his turn
Throwback to before the PSU/OSU Dual last year "You can win a national championship with 5 really solid wrestlers. But that by no means is a really good program..." - Cryin' Tom Ryan
One of my favorite HS events of the year for sure: WNO October 7, 2018 106: #1 Richie Figueroa vs ???? 120: #1 Kurt McHenry vs #2 Eric Barnett 132: #1 Josh Saunders vs #2 Jordan Decatur 138: #1 JoJo Aragona vs #4 Gabe Tagg (4-man tourney) 138: #2 Keegan O'Toole vs #3 Jaden Abas (4-man tourney) 152: #1 Andrew Alirez vs #2 Jace Lucahu 160: #1 Brevin Balmeceda vs #2 Alex Facundo 170: #1 Julian Ramirez vs #2 Carson Kharchla (possibly freestyle) 182: #1 Abe Assad vs #3 Devin Winston 152W: #1 Macey Kilty vs UR Kennedy Blades Pro Match: ???? vs ????
Russian Nationals. Here's how the team is shaping up. 57kg: Zaur Uguev ('17 world teamer, Yarygin gold '17+ '18, Euro medalist '17+18) 61kg: Musukaev vs Idrisov--winner gets a wrestle-off against Rashidov who received a waiver 65kg: Chakaev wins Russian Nationals, but will now have a wrestle-off against Bekbulatov who also received a waiver 70kg: Magomedrasul Gazimagomedov vs Arpat Sat. Sat beat Kurugliev in quarters. 74kg: Sidakov beat returning silver medalist Tsabolov in the finals, but that spot may not be settled yet bc of Tsabolov's strong standing, Russia gonna Russia. 79kg: Akhmed Gadzhimagomedov vs Suyunchev--Gadzhi is a big favorite to win, also the favorite for world gold--beat Dake at Yarygin and Dake doesn't lose often 86kg: Kurugliev over Naifonov, not sure if that will settle it or tourney placement comes into play. Should be Kurugliev but it's Russia. 92kg: Urishev-Tsakulov. Think Urishev is the favorite here. 97kg: Snyder-Sadulaev II is a go. 125kg: Khizriev-Kushkov was the expected final and should decide the world teamer.
