finals starting up now Finals Matchups 57: Nathan Tomasello (TMWC/OHIO RTC) vs Seth Gross (Sunkist Kids) 65: Frank Molinaro (TMWC/OKRTC) vs Jordan Oliver (Sunkist Kids) 74: Isaiah Martinez (TMWC/ILLINIRTC) vs Jason Nolf (Nittany Lion Wrestling Club) 86: Alex Dieringer (TMWC/COWBOY WC) vs Myles Martin (TMWC/OHIO RTC) 97: Kyle Snyder (TMWC/NLWC) vs Michael Macchiavello (TMWC/WOLFPACK) 125: Gable Stevenson (Gopher Wrestling Club) vs Dominique Bradley (Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club)
Yep. Suriano-Garrett is the match I thought we could see in the finals and we get it as a 3rd place match. Suriano is the best guy at the weight in the Farrell. I am quite convinced. Maybe in the entire country.
Gross is very impressive. Still would take Suriano over him in rematch. But Gross is the one who qualifies for the trials and it seems as though he will surely sit out until then because of the weight cut. Will be very interesting to see what he can do. He is certainly a threat to win trials.
Fun match. You guys looked way better coached. Seemed like every time we needed a takedown or bonus point, you guys countered our attacks. Outside of the 197 match anyways.
VT on a roll... Our next class is #2 in the country, and have started the season with 3 straight dual wins over ranked teams (2 in the top 10). We are one solid dual team, but will not be as strong a tournament one. Bummed D-Mac lost on Saturday, though. He's our best chance to have someone in the finals this year.
Dick move by Cael forfeiting to Zahid in front of ASUs biggest ever wrestling crowd. Definitely didn’t know that was happening
Still a dick move, seemed intentionally petty because of the Zahid/Hall rivalry. Didn’t see Kordell Norfleet almost majoring Conel coming, that was his first match of the year.
I get that but PSU gave the vibe they were wrestling that match, nobody knew that was coming. Feels like there was no need for that in a road match. Also Cassar is going to get the pin to win the dual anyway
One of our former 4x AA and current HWC member, Brandon Sorensen was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Dude is from my town and an all around great guy. Sucks big time.
I hate Iowa but it made me sad when I heard about that. I don't know anything about the disease. What's the prognosis for that? Treatable I hope.
Sad indeed, but sounds like he's getting a ton of support from his friends, family, and Hawkeye Nation.
Dylan Koontz to the semis with 2 big upsets dukebuckeye Love how we're wrestling this tourney. Hoffman showed a bit of life but still garbage. Pletcher getting tech falls on takedowns on a good wrestler is wild.
Teemer gets the first 2 TDs against Deakin but proceeds to get ridden out the last 3 minutes basically. Another example of how awful riding time is as a point/strategy. Deakin just stays on the hip and never once tries to score but that’s the game
157 semis are fire. Hidlay-Coleman is the #1 guy in the country vs one of the fastest rising names in the country. Coleman has wins over Artalona, Lewan, Franek, McCoy, Yapoujian, etc. Deakin-Carr is a jr world silver vs a jr world gold
Truly believe he was a victim of the Flo hype machine (like Seth Gross this year). The kid had one truly amazing and inspiring tournament in an otherwise mediocre career. Add in a serious shoulder injury/surgery and you have a mediocre senior season.
He's still injured and terrible. Kollin showed tonight why he can be by far the most dominant wrestler at his weight and still may lose a la Myles Martin.
Norfleet might be an AA this year, but, yeah, Moore was sloppy enough to almost give it away... when he should have won by 5-6
Gilman is an absolute warrior but I feel like he just can't finish takedowns on top 10-20 guys. He loses to Mutaliev in the quarters at Alans.
It seems like it would be very unpleasant to wrestle Brayton Lee. We get another edition of Lee-Sasso in the finals tonight. Hope Sasso can go 7 minutes.
Very good. Facundo and Richie Figs are probably the top 2 guys in the country for '21, but you can make an argument for Gallagher falling anywhere from #3 to #9. Flo has him as the #5 which I think is fair. Unlikely to xfer to Penn State as well which is a plus (PSU wasn't really ever on his list, it was always an OSU vs Iowa battle).
Undoubtedly still a big time recruit but unlikely to head to OSU. He's in that #3 to #9 group with Gallagher. If I had the choice between the two in a vacuum I'd take Gallagher, but Voinovich is probably a better fit in the OSU lineup; Gallagher is a projected 165 and Voinovich 157.
Yeah, OSU was up against it from the start. Haven’t asked in a while, but very early on it was Michigan, Oklahoma, and of course PSU.
