I am not. I'll be watching on tv. It's pretty awesome you guys can fill the BJC for wrestling though.

OSU didn't even use the Schott for the B1G tourney last year, only use of it for wrestling I'm aware of is State tourney and it fills then

You start a new NCAA soccer thread after the crash? Searched and didn't find one. Don't watch much but watching the B1G semis right now. OSU up 2-0, expecting we will see you guys in the final

I didn't. No one ever posted in it

IU is really playing well now but I don't think we've beaten Maryland since they joined the B1G so it's hard for me to expect a W

I'll be seeing OK St wrestling in person in a few weeks :fap:

141 lost a ton of guys (I think 5 of the top 6 seeds from last year and top 3 placers)
How's Gulibon looking with his jump up?

With Logan gone who knows exactly what to expect at 141 for OSU but we certainly have to like the pedigree with Micah Jordan there (younger brother of Bo and cousin of Isaac)

So Oracle Jr. is going to have to cut out all his junk food and cokes because he is wanting to wrestle 220 and he came in at 228. His first match is December 1st so his coach assured me he would get it off of him by that time.

[IMG]125: No. 2± Nico Megaludis* - Senior - Murrysville, Pa.A two-time national finalist, Megaludis is back in Penn State's leadoff position for his final season after taking a redshirt in his fourth year with the program to focus on international freestyle competition while also refining his folkstyle technique. Megaludis also added a few pounds to his frame while maintaining the ability to wrestle at the lightest weight class in college. While it might not be much, Megaludis said to expect a slightly bigger version of him now, compared to his first three seasons.

"There's a point of managing your weight (in which) you don't want to get too low and you want to keep your strength up," Megaludis said. "And with these extra few pounds, I'm making weight easy, but the extra three pounds is strength, muscle, and I think it's going to be really beneficial."

[IMG][IMG]133: No. 12 Jordan Conaway* - Senior - Abbotsville, Pa.Despite earning his first All-America honor of his career at 125 last season, Conaway had some struggles with maintaining the weight. With the two other starters ahead of him moving up a weight class and Megaludis returning to the lineup that created an opportunity for Conaway to slide back into the weight class at which he wrestled the first couple seasons of his college career.

With the added weight, Sanderson said, "I expect him to have an even better year this year. Even though he finished as an All-American last year, I think he'll be even stronger this year at '33."

[IMG][IMG]141: No. 1 Jimmy Gulibon* - Junior - Latrobe, Pa.Likewise, Gulibon moved up a weight class in spite of earning his first All-America citation at the weight class below, but Gulibon and his coaches both believe that the move will pay off here, too. He had more success with weight management last season at 133, but in his first season in the lineup '33 was a challenge for Gulibon to consistently make.

Up a weight class, which is also far less daunting in terms of competition than the one below him this year, expectations are growing around Gulibon.

"Jimmy is definitely better off at '41, as well," Sanderson said. "He did a nice job with his weight last year, but he was extremely disciplined. He's another guy who we just want him to go out there and feel great. And he should feel great at '41."

[IMG][IMG]149: No. 2 Zain Retherford* - Sophomore - Benton, Pa.The impetus for most of the weight changes came from the growth of Retherford, who is noticeably bulkier than he was as a true freshman All-American at 141. It became clear in the spring that Retherford would have to move up a weight. Therefore, with more than six months until the season opener, Gulibon and Conaway had ample time to begin their transition to the next weight class. "A lot of it was based off of Zain and what Zain wanted to do," Sanderson said, before adding, "If Zain says he's going up a weight, (other starters) are going to shift around him, because he's very tough and very good."

The new weight class, however, will also present a new set of challengers, but after going 33-3 in his college debut season, and beating four-time national champion Logan Stieber in a dual meet, Retherford said he's up for it.

"The guys are going to be bigger and stronger, and I didn't get any taller, so guys are going to be taller, too, but I feel strong," he said. "I'm feeling ready to compete at '49, so I'm looking forward to it."

[IMG][IMG]157: No. 6 Jason Nolf - R-Freshman - Yatesboro, Pa.Asked about the success of his redshirt season, in which he finished with a 15-1 record wrestling unattached, Nolf instead points directly to that lone defeat to All-American James Green in the championship round of the acclaimed Southern Scuffle. He also points to two losses on the freestyle circuit, although he just recently began focusing on that discipline. "Those losses are going to motivate me," he said.

That mindset is one that Sanderson desires in his competitors, and one that could lead the three-time Pennsylvania state champion to even greater heights in this sport.

"I don't want to put a lot of pressure on (Nolf)," Sanderson said, before adding, "He's going to be a guy who, I think, will be remembered around here for a long time."

[IMG][IMG]165: Shakur Rasheed - R-Freshman - Coram, N.Y.Rasheed missed most of his true freshman season due to a shoulder injury that stemmed from his high school career, but he returned later in the season to post a 4-1 record, including one pin, in open tournaments. As he continued to heal, he continued to improve, and this preseason he beat Garett Hammond, the returning starter at this weight class, in a wrestle-off for this spot.

Since he missed much of last season, however, fans and media haven't had an opportunity to see him in action, but from what his teammates say, there's a lot to look forward to.

"He's an exciting guy to watch," Nolf said of the two-time New York state champ. "He just goes out there and is not real passive; he's real aggressive. The fans will see."

[IMG][IMG]174: No. 20 Bo Nickal - R-Freshman - Allen, TexasA three-time Texas state champion, Nickal takes over the spot from last year's NCAA champion Matt Brown. Nickal has also been training extensively with Brown throughout his first year with the Nittany Lions.

"Matt Brown - he's awesome to compete with and to learn from," Nickal said. "I feel like wrestling with him made me so much better and got me ready for college wrestling. If I wrestle with him every day, I know there's nobody else who's going to give me that (challenge.)"

Wrestling unattached last year, Nickal finished with a 13-2 record in open tournaments. One of those losses was at the hands of Brown, a 10-7 defeat in the Nittany Lion Open. Maybe most impressive? Seven points tied for the most scored against Brown throughout his entire championship season.

"If I can hang with him as far as the hand-fighting and strength for seven minutes, I know that other people are not going to be as intense, or as strong, or as technical as him for seven minutes," Nickal said. "So that really gives me some confidence."

[IMG][IMG]184: No. 13 Matt McCutcheon - Sophomore - Apollo, Pa. After barely finishing above .500 in Big Ten dual meets as a redshirt freshman, McCutcheon appeared to have hit a different gear in the postseason. As a No. 8 seed at the conference tournament he avenged a loss against nationally ranked Sammy Brooks of Iowa en route to a fourth-place finish. Then at nationals, McCutcheon upset third-seeded Blake Stauffer of Arizona State before falling one win shy of All-America status.

It might have been a slow start initially, but it was a strong close, and Sanderson is anticipating that McCutcheon will maintain that momentum into his sophomore campaign.

"Confidence-wise, he knows he can compete with anybody, and I think he knows what it takes," Sanderson said. "It's just his best effort and that fighting spirit and just being himself and being true to what he wants to accomplish out there. Last year, the experience from that, is definitely helping out."

[IMG][IMG]197: No. 1 Morgan McIntosh* - Senior - Santa Ana, Calif. Returning to his post for a final season after a third-place finish at nationals last season, Sanderson is asking for McIntosh to assume a larger leadership role. Otherwise, he just wants the two-time All-American to simply keep doing what he's mostly been doing throughout his first four years with the program.

"You've seen that he has the ability to score points and do things that normal people can't do," Sanderson said. "So, yeah, we're looking for him to continue to do what he's doing and continue to improve. We just need him to lead, especially the upper weights, with his attitude and his effort more than anything. To win the national tournament, it takes bonus points and we need him to score bonus points. You do that just with hustle and effort and just having that right attitude, so that's what we're looking for out of McIntosh."

[IMG][IMG]285: Jan Johnson - Freshman - Mohnton, Pa.After beginning his Penn State athletic career as a walk-on linebacker, Johnson joined the wrestling team after an injury to expected starter Nick Nevills in late October. A two-time Pennsylvania state wrestling champion, Johnson is no slouch despite just joining the team, but the biggest challenge he'll face this season might be the size differential against regular college heavyweights, not the least of whom is Virginia Tech's Ty Walz, who is ranked No. 2 in the country and slated to wrestle Johnson Sunday.

Johnson joined the football team this summer weighing around 216 pounds. He's now up to 230 and eating "a ton of calories," he said, in order to continue adding more. Until then, he'll rely on his speed and quickness in hopes to outpace the more lumbering opposition.

"Wrestling as a heavyweight in college versus as a lighter weight, there was more movement and a faster step," Johnon said. "So I can just do what I can do to try to beat the bigger guys."

Sanderson said a final decision won't be made about Nevills' injury until January or February, but a possibility of a medical redshirt year is on the table.

Jose Rodriguez and Ke-Shawn Hayes are both in the finals of the Frosh/Soph bracket at 133/141 respectively.

Kollin Moore is in the semis of the open bracket but he wrestles #7 Phil Wellington of Ohio next so he's likely wrestling for 3rd.

Mark Martin lost his first match but has dominated his next two matches in the consolation bracket.

Myles Martin is in the semis of the open division against #9 Mike Ottinger of CMU which is a huge test for him and should give us an idea of where he's at. If he wins this one it bodes well for his chances to be in the lineup this year.

Nope. Myles is 74 or 84, 74 is enough of a pull as it is.

The plan is to see how Myles does in the open tournaments, and if they think he's competitive enough to earn AA status at 74, they'll pull his RS and move Bo back down to 65.

Jose Rodriguez ended up losing in the finals to an Ohio kid rated just as highly as him. Close match.

Moore lost to Wellington by 3 and is wrestling for 3rd.

Mark Martin won his last 5 matches to come in 5th place.

Myles Martin lost to Ottinger after a last second takedown. Took 3rd with a fall.

From the mat forums, probably the best write up on the VT match and no I didn't write it.

125 dance is tough but mega will be ok. seemed better everywhere except for letting dance get legs in a few times. first sit out and hip heist worked well but thereafter dance sucked him back and threw legs in. rough way to wrestle. if he would have adjusted and stood up i think it's a different outcome and will be next time.

133 conaway is just a tough tough wrestler. much like every other year only stronger and more confident. he should AA somewhere again. working with mega and jimmy and zain really helps especially with the legs he must be picking up from zain.

141 don't know if gulibon is a 41 lber. he seemed better than chisko, although i think chisko is underrated. but he couldn't muscle him at all and the last shot which chisko countered and score just look like he is not big and strong enough to handle the bigger guys while the opponent was. i don't know but barely beating neff and now this isn't building a lot of confidence he can handle the weight jump

149 just the opposite of gulibon seems zain hasn't missed a beat and can handle the size and physicality. he seems so confident when throwing legs and cranking the half it's stupid. a def high AA here if not champ.

157 nolf as advertised don't know bout I mar but man this kid is very very good. brascetta is very good and was dominated in every phase. great defense, nice shots good top game and can scramble with the best. can seeing him standing rather high on the podium.

165 rasheed should have never lost this. looked brilliant at times but then morphed into chance marstellar at the end. i am sure cael etc will go over how to stall out the last minute with a big lead. very disappointing ending but he showed flashes of being more than able to accrue points in march. long and quick and athletic think he will only get better.

174 WOW i think i underrated bo's talent and skills. i thought epperly would win this and bo would win the rematch but bo just dominated in every position. if eppelry was indeed a good #3 then i am really anxious to watch the battle of the Bo's. very impressive and an AA and maybe a very high one is the call.

184 mccutcheon seems to have taken another step up. can tell with the daily grind with casey and cael et al he is reaping the benefits. for some reason i am just not as comfortable watching him as with nolf and bo and zain etc his first 2 matches shows him very tough on top and turning opponents at will very good sign BUT if you are 1 point from a tech with a minute left in a match where that point might be huge: why not shoot? you have been taking him down and i realize he was probably blocking off etc but at least shoot and go for the tech. the major was secure one way or another. head scratcher.

197 although mac may lose a weird one or so this year, don't see anyone not named cox beating him in new york

285 soo nice to have the lead and not have to let johnson have to wrestle a "real" and "real good" heavyweight at this point

Fully expect Stauffer to dominate that matchup.

The dual could be closer than expected though.

ASU will take 149 and 184.

They could take 57 and 65 too. 97 as well if O'Hara is going again.

So best case I think is 15 points for ASU unless Pagdilao gets bonus points at 149.

Stauffer only won 7-4 and the team score was 28-9. ASU took 49, 65 and 84

Ryan had an OT win or it would've been closer.

    Martin made his dual debut

Accurate on everything but Stauffer dominating but even then he had a 5-1 lead before Courts cut to 5-4 and he got a riding point

    Well done
